Most trucks designed for "off road use" aren't really designed for off road use as nobody uses them for that. They're basically just lifted stock trucks.
@@nyelement007 Depends what vehicle your talking about. The new small turbo engines, yeah fuck that shit. Get it out of my truck and put it in my wife’s Chevy cruise because that’s where a turbo 2.7L belongs. (Speaking metaphorically lol I own the V8) The V8s however, I’m fine with how they are. Both gas and diesel I think they both have a good amount of power for what they’re meant for. The ZR2, eh.. I mean I’m not too mad only because they didn’t put a car engine in it. They kept it a real truck. However shoulda been a big block V8 or a small block V8 with a blower. Still not too mad tho because if I really want a ZR2 with a blower it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3 these days. And definitely cheaper then if it came from the factory that way. I think Chevy knows that the people that want real power are going to mod to their liking anyways so what’s the point in messing with it from the factory. Might as well keep it as reliable as possible for everyone else you know? But yeah i can definitely see how some would be upset about the ZR2, how much (or how little) power it makes comparatively.
Knowing newer vehicles, i'm guessing it was most likely an axle failure, which could indeed be super catastrophic in certain situations. As soon as I saw that back tire basically go up into the bed area of the wheel well I knew something was about to happen... The suspension travel is pretty crazy, but it's meant for baja, which includes jumps... but that was a hard acceleration in that last area, still shouldn't have broken it. Very curious to see where it failed... My opinion is that a 100k truck shouldn't have a v6, unless that v6 is pushing quite a lot of HP... but to be beat by a ZR2 basically stock is disappointing. Raptor R will be better, but they've completely redone the suspension on it because of the v8 supercharged power.
im thinking the outer tie rods let go and she pigion toed and crushed the front fenders in lol. Those tires have to be 13.5'' wide or even wider tho. Tons of leverage.
@@parkvapes2127 could be right, I've seen far too many axles break on newer vehicles, but a tie rod breaking usually means there was a lot of force or you got a really bad one... or it was already basically broken. It's either one of those, or a driveshaft? Could be a lot of things but it's gonna be something that keeps it from moving. I'm curious why though because he's taken a similar raptor on the same trails already... something is fishy, bad parts or something.
@@XeroCreator I’m thinking it’s gonna be the tie rod, but I’m curious if Ford even beefed up the tie rods to run those 37 off road. It may have been just enough for them to snap those little tie rods on an independent front end.
@@gs300rich4 At least try to sound educated with your comments. For one the TFL race used a standard Raptor on 35" tires (huge difference right there). Also they run their races in the mountains which would put the ZR2's NA V8 at a disadvantage. It won by 1.1 seconds in the quarter mile which is hardly a bus length. These roll races wouldn't necessarily have the same outcomes as digs like the TFL videos which reach top speeds of 80-100 mph in most cases.
@@JustinKelly aww justina, you forget that the gen3 is geared for 37s so it’s not a “huge difference” but you are the most intelligent human ever. Also you grossly overestimate the altitude factor, because there are several videos right here on RU-vid of similar testing with similar results. And beating one by 1.1 seconds is bus lengths goofy. Have you ever been in a drag race?
Saw some front wheel wobble when ya floored it. Usually that happens right before a tie rod snaps. Putting in my guess now ! Could also have been the driveline
You know I seen that wheel flopping around like a fish in the water also... was like Damn that thing must have alot of travel but ur right seemed very fish like flopping around
@@winemillerbrian how much do those 37s weigh a piece???? Even if its built for that tire size there is a reason it comes factory with BFG ALL TERRAINS. U start changing tires and wheels and add weight and shit breaks like tooth picks
@@New_Jax_City Good point. Here on the ranch (Montana) our trucks are driven "off road" routinely for the duration of their life and even then we seldom have failures, let alone catastrophic ones. We even have some pickups that were built in the 60's. That said, I'd suggest Mike not state he was on a "trail", but instead use the term "road". As in a dirt/gravel road, for insurance purposes, since "trail" connotates off-road use which is often not covered under warranty. And that's not to mention the videos. =:O

It’s a ford thing, every ford I owned before had major mechanical problems. None of our ford pickups passed 70k without failures. Good thing Ram build reliable trucks !!
Think of all the carnage you put the TRX through, the first one, and it still worked 100%. Tractor tires at 100 mph doing donuts and climbing everything. No issues. Ford, 1 easy trail and boom. Broken Ford.

It would have made it up the hill just fine. If you actually watched the video instead of trying to bash the truck you would recall he decided not to go up the hill as he didn't want to scratch the back of the truck.

Only one thing better than a TRX and that's 2 TRX's. We need to hit up that same trail together when you get another TRX cause the Raptor isn't cutting it!
I wish Mike would of built and daily drove a 1200 hp trx on 38’s and 22 or 24 inch wheels even lifted more like maybe 6 inches. But it would weigh 7k lbs or so from a stock 6400 lbs
You’re telling me with just $2k the Raptors 450hp 3.5L V6 will make 700hp. Boy they messed up wasting their time putting a new 5.2 supercharged V8 that makes 700hp in the new Raptor R

Raptor smokes the TRX off-road my guy. Not even a comparison. The TRx is really unbalanced due to its heavy pig engine. The raptor has 10+ years of engineering pedigree and it shows. Ram just stuck a hellcat in a rebel and gusseted the frame in a few spots.
you got me into loving the TRX. I see them on the road from time to time, they are frickin sweet trucks. I would love to buy one. Raptors seem cool but Id take a TRX anyday.
I thought hard about TRX vs Raptor. Glad I went with TRX. Don't get me wrong, the Raptor is cool. But I already have a vaccuum cleaner. The beautiful SC 6.2 V8 rumble is a wonderful thing.
Yup. I have friends with a gen 2 and gen 3 (37). I went TRX after seeing and driving the gen 3. Almost unbelievable how much better the TRX is in literally every way - even against Raptors with 37's from the factory. Raptor R came close to matching the TRX's acceleration, but is so far behind in looks/comfort, and is MORE expensive... hard-pass on that too.
Awesome video in my opinion it’s easy to put a lift on and slap 37 inch tire on something but totally different to build something to handle turning those 37s my dad always used to tell me play to your set up his truck was on 40s one ton drive train and big block motor v6 pushing 37s not idle plus I noticed it bogged a lot in that mud hole never saw your TRX do that coincidence? I think not.
raptor looks special like a lambo!! trx looks like a ram with a hood. lambo aint as fast as things like a 30 k mustang with a 13k supercharger. but lambo looks extreme as does the raptor looks like the most extreme offroad factory truck by far. add a predator or coyote to a raptor and you not only have looks but you have a truck that can kill a lambo like most v8 f150 with boost and fuel do
I'm old school so to me a 3.5 liter V6 is a minivan engine! Almost rented a RAM Rebel until I started it up and realized it was a V6. It boggles my mind that they would waste all that metal making that. Mike needs a Whipple-charged Coyote swap after it gets fixed! Or a Raptor R
Should’ve kept the trx lol, truck had plenty of power and did great off road and was a total beast, stay away from ford, except your stangs, those are too sweet not to have haha. Good luck on the repairs Mike, hopefully you can get it fixed and back soon.
They all break bro , take it from me , it's never the brand almost all of them fuck up had two gt500s one was ass the next was damn this the beat car I've ever owned idk just because there built in the same place they not the same car or truck.
@@khyoon14 nah I've also owned a lemon hellcat and a 2016 camaro 2ss that Trans went out with 52 miles while accelerating to merge on the highway that almost got me hit .

Raptor is a beautiful truck. I think you just had something faulty. You've taken other raptors out to what looked liked a similar location and no problems with them. Either way beautiful truck and nice vids. Keep up the good work Mike🔥🔥
Yea I’m kinda over the raptors. Even if the R is faster then the TRX I would still rather have the TRX. My Brother had a Gen 1 Raptor with the 6.2 that we took to Roush creek and we didn’t do anything crazy either and by the time we were done he had check engine light on and the truck wasn’t running right on the way home. The next day the light was off and the truck was fine. We were talking to one of the guys who work there and he said Raptors are always breaking there.
