Also the "graniness" you mentioned that plagued the old blu-ray was not film grain, it was in fact video noise as the result of artificial sharpening since the old release used a DVD master. The 4K one has grain but it's a lot more natural and film-like.

It's great but wish they would have included all the deleted scenes In 4K. Something tells me these may have burned up in that 2008 Universal fire.

I bought this release and I don't regret it one bit, this was definitely one of Universal's best late efforts (though sad that the X mix is just a repurpose of the crappy 7.1 audio, but thankfully the original stereo mix is also included if you go through the audio options)

I thought they went a little overboard with black. All the day outdoor scenes like at the beach looks like a cloudy day.

I own this classic in a few incarnations, I own the alligator skin limited edition DVD box set from way back, the initial blu ray release, the steel book blu ray and I have to say that I actually prefer the steel book blu ray over this release which I just watched today. Some scenes looked incredible in 4K, however other darker scenes looked murky and muddied, they were much easier to see on the BD. I don't know, I hear what you're saying and I may give it another shot taking into account what you said, but at this point I think that I'll continue with the BD when I watch it.

I thought the exact same thing concerning the dark scenes. In fact I had to adjust the settings on my projector to make it a more enjoyable viewing experience.

That’s really dependent on budget and preferences. I like OLEDs for TVs and Panasonic for 4K players. I currently have an Oppo 203 player but will be picking up a Panasonic in the near future.

nistel SE yes it has i watched it last night and its way better than the bluray. Have had the bluray since it came out and i really thought the pucture was soft and to much grain. This was worth the 20 i spent on it l.

Just picked up a copy to upgrade at Target for $11.99 plus tax. Was a no brainer for me. My girlfriend can't stand "old movies" which is annoying and she's never seen this, so hopefully there are few complaints if any when I introduce her to this legendary film. Lol
