I have to say that Scarface is my absolute favorite in this genre of movie. The first time I saw it was several years after its theatre release when it was available to rent on video. I also LOVE the soundtrack so much that I painstakingly recreated it with my analog synths just last year. :)
@@rickymedina7563 It has a Blu-ray struck from the 4K remaster but it's not a UHD disk. I bought it blind and was pissed because the transfer has tiling everywhere. Way too much compression and Warner Bros. knows better!
My favorite crime/drama is William Friedkin's 1977 masterpiece SORCERER. There's an excellent Blu-ray release, but I'm really hoping it gets a 4K Blu-ray release! Quentin Tarantino had SORCERER in his top 10 films of all-time, I certainly agree, but the film unfortunately goes unnoticed by most.
It is a classic, but Scarface is a masterpiece. Scarface makes you look at your own life what went wrong? Where should u focus more on your life? It questions your expectations? No, but existence!
My favorite Mob Crime movie would be “ A Bronx Tale” 1993. Love this movie, (Robert De Niro, & Chazz Palminteri) and awaiting for a 4k HDR Transfer to rebuy again.
“In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women.” Scarface of course:)
My favorite might have to be The Untouchables. One of my teachers made us watch it in high school and unlike most things I was forced to watch, I loved it.
I like Scarface, it is an iconic movie. But my favourite one is HEAT with both Al Pacino and Robert de Niro. Too bad the 4K version of that is not particularly good.
I'd have to say Donnie Brasco would be my #1. Obviously Scorsese's films are up there, but Brasco ticks all the boxes for me personally. It's a real hidden gem, not a fugazi =P
I use to not see a difference between hdr and Dolby vision but I do see it now. Whenever I put in a Dolby vision movie all the colors seem more saturated and vibrant, even for non colorful movies. The blacks always look great on my oled. For whatever reason HDR never seems as deep in the blacks or as vibrant. I play all my movies on an Oppo UDP203 and it might be my hardware but that’s just what I’ve noticed.
It has to be The Godfather Part 2. I know its an obvious answer but that movie is not only the best mob/gangster movie, its one of the best movies of all time.
Fave mob movie would be (Pulp Fiction) if that counts. If not then I’d say Goodfellas. Also a big fan of Scarface (which is right up there with Goodfellas) and Carlito’s Way. Honourable mentions to Godfather 1&2 especially and Once upon a time in America.
Awesome Review of Scarface. I'll have to pick up a copy myself. When I think of Gangster films I've always loved some of the British gangster films like the original "Get Carter" with Michael Caine. I would love to own that film in 4K. I think more films from the 1970s need 4k transfers. But I'll take what I can get.
The Godfather 2 is my favorite gangster movie. I love the jump from present day to past events in the movie. Robert Deniro was excellent in the movie as well as Al Pacino. I also love the fact that Sonny returned at the end of the movie. I really liked his character in the original and when I first saw the second Godfather I would have never excepted his return in that movie.
Maybe it's just me but I want to separate "crime" and "gangster" by so much that I can list some horror movies like The Collector and Don't Breathe, haha. But more fitting of the organized crime genre, I'll go with The Town (theatrical cut).
