My DiResta GIANT Razors… Now LIVE HERE: imakeny.com/pr...
This hatchet head was from the flea market. 10$. This handle was inspired by many tools from the late 1800's.. wood is rose wood... the handle is cold rolled steel.

+Eye Toldyoosso That may have been Mrs. Wranglerstar. She is really big on privacy. In their book, she said she was reluctant to do anything on RU-vid to begin with because she thought everyone would figure out where they lived and other personal details. If you were blocked early on in the channel, it was probably because she still didn't trust/know how RU-vid works. It's still pretty extreme to block you for that though. Just a thought.

question; if you made a steel handle, why not just weld the head on? i know youre not planning on using the hatchet ( which looks badass) every day but there looks like there are gaps around the wedge front and back. so it would work its way out eventually. or would it have been stronger to drill through the head and rivet it directly to the handle. seems like that would work on metal but not wood. i have a few old axe bits so i think ill try.
@geraldbrooks2763
@geraldbrooks2763 8 лет назад
not an axe nerd, just an honest question.
@andregross7420
@andregross7420 8 лет назад
Axe heads are a high carbon steel and can be hard to weld. Welds don't always hold up well to shocks, and can crack. A pin through the side of the axe will loosen, because the hole in the side of the handle will oval out and become larger. Some do that with hammers and they never stay tight.

I was thinking why not press-fit the head on after heating it.
@alexchulzhanov
@alexchulzhanov 8 лет назад
You would ruin the temper on the ax head. That and they are dissimilar metals, which don't weld together very well. You'd probably have to solder it together and that would ruin the temper as well.

Anti-rust? Sandpaper? Sandblaster? I would use a friend's sandblaster, or buy a sandblasting nozzle for an air compressor. Also, as a side note, you can buy tools, but you can't buy skill, so start with the small stuff.

what is the purpose of heating the pins before inserting, I would think they would shrink as they cool and not fit properly.
@FireGuy90
@FireGuy90 7 лет назад
razdrazchelloveck it's so he can hammer them into a rivet, or 'peen' them. The shrinkage you mention is minor, and by upsetting the metal he is compressing it down its length to make a tight joint. They used to put together ships hulls in a similar fashiob
@bigredc222
@bigredc222 6 лет назад
Electric welding came into use in the early to mid 1900s, before that, any time two pieces of steel had to be joined, they used rivets, sometimes bolts and nuts, but mostly rivets. When a hot rivet cools it gets tighter, pulling the metal together. Bucker up.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6pbYYs3P91E.html
