There are still a few days left to get those gifts finished and ready! This is a fast, easy free motion quilting design that looks like tree lights on your quilt. You can quilt it fairly large thanks to the fun lights, so it will help you get those quilts finished! The shapes are very beginner friendly so if you are still building your skills, this design will get you more comfortable with quilting a few different shapes--circles and ovals.
I've also shown a few different variations so you have your pick of four light shapes and the option of adding the little flame or lighting element inside each bulb. Mix and match or choose just one for a more consistent look and texture.
About my machine: I'm working on a "sit down longarm" which is like a large regular sewing machine set in a table. It is just to provide more area for filming but it works the same way as a normal sewing machine. I'm controlling the machine with a foot pedal and moving the fabric with my hands while the machine stays stationary.

Practice it on paper until you get to know what to do when, then use the design on some placemats to get even more comfortable with the design. Kids like to have their own placemats and they won't be critical of your quilting.

The tear-drop string lights also gave me an old-school Christmas light vibe I had growing up. lol Super Cute!

Oh my! I just completed a table runner for the hostess of a Christmas party and I quilted it with lights. I never thought of a single oval at the bottom. I used a tiny triple loop with a pointy light. I used variegated thread so the cream backing looks great but the lights are just texture on the front, opposite of yours. Great minds think alike…lol fantastic! I like your oval better than my triple loop. My lights were all different sizes but, I’m still learning and the recipient loved the gift. Win win! Thank you for the inspiration!

I have a Christmas quilt and wasn't sure which design to choose but this one is perfect! Also, thank you for showing how slow you actually sew the design in the beginning. It is often discouraging as everyone seems to be so much faster than I am (telling myself that the film was probably sped up does not help because it is not what I am seeing :-D)

@@TinyOrchardQuilts you are adorable, by the way! I often wonder if you have to hype yourself up before a recording to always be so cheerful. I know that the isolation of Covid has officially ’gotten to me’ and always appreciate your happiness! 😁

Very helpful tutorial, and as a very beginner quilter, this feels like an approachable option to practice! Also, do you mind sharing what machine you purchased? I need to move out of my beginner sewing machine to a sit down quilting machine, and would love to know what you selected.

Your quilting foot seems to be bouncing on your sandwich...why is this? Is it the thickness of your batting? Love everything you post!!! Thank you. @StellaQuilts

This is a hopping style foot on my juki-it does go up and down a bit. It goes down to stabilize the fabric when the needle is going in and then goes back up when the needle exits so you can move the fabric easily. :)
