@@TightWadDIY It shows 👍, you are a hard worker I just finished seeing your “ Christmas lights Tips & Tricks part 2” The one where you are wearing a red Christmas light blazer 👍 I was just taking notes 📝 like if I was in the middle of a college class 🤣
I enjoyed the video and started to look at the materials to see what it would cost. I noticed some really poor reviews on the light strands such as lights not working, getting really hot, etc. Have you had issues with them?
You’re the first person to show the different types of clips needed for shingle vs gutter application. I realize now that I’ve spent too much money on bigger clips that also look really messy. Wondering if I have the energy to redo the entire house tmrw….after I go and buy those cheap clear clips lol. Your home looks beautiful and your attention to detail is commendable. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Merry Christmas!
It looks classy without over-doing it like you said, great choices on the wreaths but I would add one Rudolph with a glowing red nose just to make it a little fun, maybe to the left of the door infront of the green bush where there's a lot of space. Or some type of lighted ornamental thing...maybe a small tree skeleton or something...many options
Great video! I have been doing the Red/White C9 setup for 25+ years and love the look. I use the same materials as you do. I use red LED spotlights to accents the house and takes away some of the dark spots on the house. My granddaughter calls it the 'candy cane house...
Thank you so much, loved that you were very detailed on everything from the installation of lights to showing how you put your latter against the house.
Thank you for this video. I'm doing my own lights this year for the first time. Luckily I have a small house and I'm keeping it simple. I have 2 questions...1. Do you put all the lights in the clips before starting to hang them? I'm pretty sure this is what you were demonstrating. 2. Do you connect strands while to each other before hanging them while they are spread out on the ground?
That’s awesome! You should send me a pic when you are finished! Yes I put clips on while on the ground because it’s easier. I do try to connect the cords together before getting on the ladder too. Anything I can do while safely on the ground is ideal.
@@TightWadDIY I got the lights hung and they look great,, but I don't see a way to reply with a photo, so I posted the photos on my facebook page and tagged you. They are in a double row.... Beautiful blue C9's on top with dangling twinkling white stars. 😊
I know this is a year old video so you probabwont see this comment - but thank you for this video.. I have a crazy tall roof line and haven't tried putting up lights.. but seeing your video has helped me with some ideas... Thank you
Greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷, very nice video, your house looks amazing, a beautiful house by the way!!! One question: Did you use incandescent lights?
That red and white looks clean. We just did ours and we have icecicles and color c9 i think going across the front porch, c7 color around garage door, c5s on 2 of the front windows, 4 inflatables, 2 falling snow projectors and 2 strands of c5 white bulbs on 2 front bushes Man what a pain in the ass, this is our first x mas in our new home and I had to to use power strips, 3 ways and numerous extension cords to make them work off 2 switches. It does look good though. Im considering getting a large wreath for over the garage, I still have 1 strand of color c7s that i need to put on the inside window thats over the garage door.
6:10 install a hook up on the roof to tether too, in your case the roof is quite steep, the hook are not expensive and if you can put up light you can put up a hook on the roof. Or pay someone to come out and install the hook for you (a roofer would be able to do it easily and cheap)
Hey nice video I have about a hundred feet of icicle lights but they won’t stay lit. I’m new to this so I don’t know about wattage footage etc…any particular gauge/feet of power cord I should use?
I do custom cut LED light installs and can get you c7 or c9 leds at a pretty reasonable price if you'd like. I get them all at wholesale price for the most part, prices are a little higher then normal but not too bad
came to see if there was a trick for managing that top peak lol. I have the same issue, little fear of heights and it's always uncomfortable trying to get that peak clipped in
I’ve never used a timer and didn’t see how or where you added it to your lights in the video. Do you use more than one or will one work for all the lights and wreaths you have hanging?
You add the timer where the extension cord plugs into the outlet. The timer controls all of the lights on that extension cord. I use four different timers all set to the same time and schedule.
I’m not sure you’ll see this but look into vampire plugs, you can cut that excess wire your hiding and put a new plug on so that you don’t have open sockets and everything is cut to fit exactly Christmas light contractors RU-vid has videos on it!!
@@TightWadDIY they look bigger. Thanks for replying. Question, is it much of a different putting the clips while on the ground versus putting as you install?
You've since learned about socket spool to custom cut with precise plugs and endcaps? No extra line and sockets laying around. And LED bulbs? Incandescent get Hot and use too much electricity, and need Too many separate extension cords.
As long as it's not a painted surface or stucco, use a little bit of hot glue. Works great. I do professional lighting installs and that's why I do on brick or pvc window trims
@@paulliquori4824 is it better to do the ridge line ? I did the outline of my house but seems empty . Don’t know if I should add another 150 ft of lights for the ridge line
@@colt2540 really just depends. I mean, you're asking if it's a good thing to add more lights??? I say it can't be bad to have more lights haha, just if it's in your budget to add more this year
IM SO SURPRISED TO SEE THE LEVEL OF DETAIL AND PROFESSIONALISM YOU ATTEMPT TO APPLY TO YOUR LIGHTS BUT YET YOURE MISSING THE MOST IPORTANT PART!!!! MALE AND FEMALE VAMPIRE PLUGS BRUH WITH MAKE AND FEMALE VAMPIRES YOU COULD HAVE EVERYTHING HOOKED UP EVEN IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE OR TWO EXTERIOR OUTLETS
Those are great plugs BUT you still run into the issue of max load on each wire. They are perfect when using LED lights. I have to use 4 different circuits so I don’t trip the breaker.
Vampire plugs allow you to cut and add a plug anywhere you need to on a wire. They pierce the wiring (vampire) so they just clamp on. If you are using the older style bulbs and not LED, they don’t solve the issue of overloading a circuit with too many lights.
I’m not selling a single product. I’m telling you the best tools to use to complete the task. You are welcome to figure it out on your own but I come with 10 years of experience and I’m trying to help you avoid the headaches.
