We just went through our first Broody experience. We had a 6 month old who had only been laying a few weeks go broody. Unbreakable. So we gave her 4 eggs and put her in our Tractor supply chicken coop that we don't use anymore. She hatched 3 out of 4. The last one wasn't fertilized. But So far she's been such a stellar mom. I couldn't be more pleased with the first results. Good luck on your eggs!

Don't be surprised if they go a little longer than 21 days. I was getting nervous/anxious with our broody hen last year. I did not check/disturb the eggs. Then, one day, the eggs started moving and cracking open. 9 out of 11 made it. 🙂

This year I got too busy to deal with the broodies, so I hit up Tractor supply for pullet chicks. They were within a few days old and I put them under two different hens. The hens raised 7 of the 8 chicks and were very happy. One other chick was killed, but the remaining 6 pullets are almost ready to lay their first eggs. Great summary on broodies!

One of my hens went broody this spring. We don't currently have a rooster so we found her some likely fertile eggs and let her have at it. Out of the 8 we gave her only 4 hatched. Out of those we only have 1 left. Buts she's a keeper. Looks like I may have another headed the same way, so I'm heading out to get her some eggs.

We don’t have a rooster yet, we’re within city limits. We’re close to selling our house and getting out of the city! We DO have a broody hen which is interesting. She currently sits on the fake eggs in the nesting box. 😂 I cleaned the nesting boxes yesterday and sat the fake eggs in the grass next to my feet and she came and turned them and appeared to be counting them. ❤

I had a good laugh with your explanation of how baby chicks are created, thought it was common knowledge. I had 3 silkie hens all go broody this spring so I let them because I wanted more but this spring and summer was the worse with heat and humidity and makes the broody, hatching a little more difficult. It was so funny to see how one would go out to eat etc and the others would carefully pull all the eggs under her so I lost track of which eggs were which hen. Some did not make it due to the weather conditions but when they started to hatch I found one of those playhouses for little girls, put hardware cloth over the open areas and put a tote on the side with one of the hens and the babies and created a nursery. One hen said I did my job and I am done, but one of the hens turned out to be a great Mom. They are now in the run with the other hens and rooster but in a small fenced off area so they can be on the ground and see the other hens so they get used to each other. I will do it again next spring. Thanks for the video
