I just test drove this Subaru model. I own a 2010 Altima and I like the Subaru SO much more. The CVT trans feels smoother. The ride feel solid and planted. Looking at prices, the 2017 Subaru offer more value than the 2017 Altima. I love the eye-sight system.Plus the Legacy is Consumer Reports # 1 rated. The exterior styling is pretty bland. I consider the Chevy Malibu's styling to be state of the art. But I can live with the exterior considering all the other great features the Legacy offers. In the mid-size family sedan market I think the Legacy is in the top 3 choices. Good review.

another excellent review thank you. The anti rollback button is a nice feature because CVT transmissions will roll backwards on an incline unlike regular transmissions
@Bartonovich52

Uh... the rollback is based on the torque converter which both transmission types have. On a steep enough incline any normal transmission will roll back.

@@Bartonovich52 true enough, but I only speak from my experience from driving a friends Rogue that took off like a shot between brake release to acceleration on a steep grade in Ithaca NY if you understand that steepness. I never had a regular automatic act like that. My stick Nissan never took off at the rate I experienced with that piece of crap.

Very nice review. Thank you. I am going to buy a mid-size sedan soon and this is definitely right at the top of my list (together with Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and VW Passat). You have helped me a lot to narrow down my options. One thing that I have noticed about ALL these cars is the lack of front parking sensors, even as an option (that I would gladly pay for). You get all these fancy gizmos (rear sensors AND camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, blind spot sensors, rain sensors, foldable mirrors, washable front lights, trip computer that can bake a cake, fancy infotainment systems that tell you if your wife is going through PMS and all sorts of other useless information, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc...................... *phew*. What I have noticed with modern cars is that, because of improved aerodynamics, the front end is not really visible from the driver's seat. This is good, as it helps improve fuel economy, so no complaint there. HOWEVER, I think it would be very easy and inexpensive to include front parking sensors in the never ending list of gadgets. Nobody does. So, here come the questions: A. Is there a car in this category that offers front parking sensors, even as an option. B. Can someone please explain to me the logic behind not having front parking sensors, a very useful gadget that would cost next to nothing to the car makers?
@featherman9
@featherman9 7 лет назад
Every feature/item they add to a car costs a lot more then just the cost of the materials in this case just the price of a camera. There is a large expense and a lot of time/planning needed to adding an item to the assembly line, designing the new item, incorporating it into the software, figuring out how it will fit into the car (mounting, wiring, etc.). Another reason is because most cars take 3-5 years to develop, so everything you are seeing in a car now was planned a few years ago. So a feature like front parking sensor might be in high demand now but was not 2-3 years ago so they are unable to just stick it into the newest cars (due to the time it takes to plan). They will usually add them in a few years down the road. A lot of the time it is due to the cost when the technology first comes out and as the price goes down they are able to plan for it to be in a future car which means once the technology is affordable then 2-4 years later you will start seeing it as an option in regular cars. This is one of the reasons most cars have very outdates screens/entertainment systems. When they designed the cars they used a screen that was a few years old, or they designed the entertainment system 5+ years before but have not invested the money into redesigning it because they wanted to focus there resources on other parts of the car. And if they did invest into both the screen and another feature they would have to raise the prices of the car and that would turn customers off from the car. I hope that was a simple enough of an answer, I kind of rambled on but I think I explained it decently.
@featherman9
@featherman9 7 лет назад
I have shopped around for cars 1-3 times a year for the past 4-5 years for myself or one of my family members. And I found that this generation of Subarus are the best cars in there price ranges. I personally have the 2015 Legacy Premium and I love it the only thing I regret is not getting the limited package. One of my Brothers has a 2015 Camry, and one has a 2015 Accord, and they both wish they had gotten a Legacy. From a price perspective the Subaru has been the best value. we all got similar featured cars and I spent about $1,400-2,00 less. My Legacy is the easiest to use when it comes to the infotainment system, and it has the most interior space we are all tall and so is the rest of my family so that is very important, mine is the only car with all wheel drive which is great in the winter time as well as on dirt roads. All the cars drive basically the same on normal roads, and in normal driving conditions. They all offer about the same options in the car if you wanted to spec it out. The biggest difference I have seen is the depreciation. 2015 Camry is selling for about 13-17k when there initial sticker price was 25-30k, While 2015 Subaru legacy are selling for 15-20k and the sticker prices are also 25-30k and the Honda accord has very similar numbers to the Camry. So there is a 2-5k difference in depreciation between the legacy and the Camry/Accord. That becomes very apparent in the lease pricing, when you go shopping ask to see the lease pricing for the cars you are thinking about buying and compare them. When you pay for a lease you are basically paying for the depreciation and a small amount of profit. I went shopping with my sister 3 weeks ago and we went to all 3 dealership the legacy dramatically beat out the Camry and accord by $40-90+ a month (the biggest variance was with the different options in the car). And even the Accord that had the least features that we wanted was not able to hit anywhere close to the lease of a nearly fully loaded Legacy. The major price difference in the lease pricing shows you that they know for a fact that there cars will depreciate a lot more, and if you decide to lease the car you will be paying a lot more and not getting anymore. So in conclusion, the Legacy was the most comfortable of the 3 (in mine and my brothers opinion). I paid a lower price for my car, and my car has depreciated a lot less. So after about 2.5 years my Subaru Legacy was the best option hands down. And most likely I will be selling my Subaru in the Summer to buy the 2018 Legacy. The only reason I am waiting is because they will be most likely adding Apple carplay/Android Auto to all future models, they finally implemented it into the new Imprezas and from everything I have heard from both dealers and the subaru community it sounds like all future cars will now have it which will take there infotainment system to the next level. I am very happy with Legacy and they have luckily fixed almost every gripe (and all my issues were minor) I have with the car with the 2016 and 2017 models so them adding Apple Carplay would cover all the bases and beyond. And if the 2018 model is lacking I could always stick with my current car or buy a 2017 Legacy and save a lot of money on it and get a car with all of the features I wanted in my car and have all the tiny issues fixed.

A review is based on an individual's subjective opinion. I try not to inject my opinion to sway people to like or dislike the car... the viewer decides what they like and don't like. My videos actually show the car in detail... under the hood, in the trunk, floorboards, fuel cap... ECT... I didn't see any of that in the video you shared. Actually I heard a lot about other cars than the one that the video was supposed to be about. In addition it is easier to see the car when the presenter isn't taking up 75% of the screen. Alex makes good videos no doubt however we have completely different objectives. BTW you may want to read the title of my video.

I have a Subaru Legacy, 2012 to be exact, it’s underpowered too but it’s still more than capable of going +90mph which I’ll almost never do bc I’ll be ticketed for speeding. So you can’t really say a car is underpowered.

You say it looks cheap, and outdated, but I would say it looks balanced and traditional. What more do you want from an interior? All the major points are soft to the touch, the steering wheel is telescoping and leather wrapped, cloth seats have a clean texture and breath better than leather, and there isn't an abundance of tacky chrome trim. Touch screen is intuitive looking and there arent 100 buttons scattered everywhere. What do think is missing or needs changed?
