I work 12 hours a day sitting behind a desk in a control room and I'm always suffering from tingling and tightness in my calves and I'm 58 years old now after doing those simple stretch exercises at my desk there has been a dramatic improvement in my calve muscles and legs and Im now pain free. I didn't hear the doc mention it, but doing this calf pumping activates the soleus muscle. That muscle burns glucose or glycogen at a much faster rate than any other muscle in the body. That is why it is so effective.
I've got to tell you you are my hero. I'm 75 and there's nothing wrong with me yet. It's not unusual for someone to live into their 90's today and science is discovering new things that extend life, for example, resveratrol. If I can live another 20 years, maybe lifespan will be extended some more years with science. No, I'm not afraid of dying. I believe we go on as ourselves. It's just that life is so fascinating and there is so much to learn that I'd like more time at it.

I do these "exercises" regularly when I am on extended flights or long rides in the car or just sitting at the dinning table or computer desk. It does work!
Dr Mandel I have had I had a bad accident where I crushed my I broke all my ribs on my left crushed my pelvis my knee my ankle broke my finger bone and shoved that through my liver I was in a coma for 3 and 1/2 Weeks I have dropped foot on my left side which leaves me with pain and I will try that after the dinner trick that you are describing about moving your toes or bending your heels up to you from your toes a little bit of type 2 diabetes thank you very much I appreciate all you do for people on your comments as usual you are very intelligent man thank you very much from Jim😊

The Calf muscle IS also a blood pump. I heard another doc say the same thing yesterday. Good to know if you sit too much like I do. If we know what we can do to improve our health we may actually do it :) Thank you Dr. Mandell, I did a few calf raises and I'm feeling better already. Some of you doctors on here are life savers. I know poor circulation can cause many problems. Almost as bad as being dehydrated.
Doc , Im 67. Have type 2 Diabetes. On Metformin and Glipizide, also on hypertension meds since 2012. My goal is to turn it around by natural exercise and non processed foods. Your advice is indespencipal. Thank you!

I agree please get off that stuff it's not even legal in Europe but made me gain 12 lb in 6 weeks and I went on something like hydrochlorothiazide instead I had to go through six different medications before I found one that worked

Wish id 'Met you' 74years ago. Iv just been diagnosed with Perocious Anaemia and need to have Vit B12 injections FOR LIFE ! I always move my legs, because I don't want to end up with Pulmonary Embolism ( I had this before , end back up in Intensive Care for 2 weeks ), totally spend 2 months in the hospital . At the young age of 23 yrs old. That's why I always moving my legs and body. And, I do this even on a plane , entire time and if, I can stand and walk, I'll do that too. It doesn't matter how old a person is !!!

After more than 15 hours fastening, and I eat , I do light exercise 25-30 mnts , like squads lounges wall push up marching sane spot, rising up arms straight up and lifting my toes standing closer to wall and riding my arms then lower them gently, you showed us that one!!l It’s very effective to lower blood sugar And like I said , drinking the water helps to wash out the glucose, blood become less sticky Thank you!!! Doc, you just broke the door open for a sedentary work and life style. I take it up a notch by gently but rapidly pumping my heels up and down, without touching the floor. The circulation, whether doing it fast or slow, happens but I enjoy putting a twist on it. 👍

Thanks for this one Dr. Mandell. I’ve upped calf pumping to walking on the balls of my feet when I’m in my house. I suffered tendinitis and doing this extra step appears to have almost completely removed the swelling in my ankles. I appreciate the additional biology you described regarding blood circulation.
I have blood pooling in my feet and lots of swelling. I am also a diabetic and seeing a foot doctor for this. Thanks for the advise and I will do it every day, several times.

I have been doing calf raises and this sit down version shows we have no excuse to not give it a go. I am suffering with tingling and numbness as I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The struggle is the sugar addiction. In England we have Dr. Rangan Chatterjee. He did Doctor in the House. Loved how he changed the lives of these people and took them off multiple medication with lifestyle changes and healthy eating. It's so hard for many without the support.
