Is there a frugal home-testing method to get feedback on whether or not I'm eating more protein than I need? I don't want to eat too little. Will BUN be reflected also in the urine, or is there a home test not unlike blood glucose? I'd really like to find my personal requirement empirically. Also, would such a test have confounders such as catabolic activity that leads to later anabolism? Primarily, I recall hearing how resistance training can be temporarily catabolic, and that can raise BUN. PS: Is high BUN with adequate protein inevitable with age, given that we don't process protein as well?

So you’re burning Bridges. 😂 Me too. One thing I’ve learned from moving to different places and seeing different doctors is every doctor 100% think they’re right. I could have two doctors tell me two different things and they both swear they’re right & the other guys wrong. example, when a Doctor said it was OK that I use bio identical estrogen cream because I didn’t have a uterus so my age didn’t matter. Another doctor found out I was using it freaked out said you’re gonna have a stroke! That nobody should be on hormones after menopause. The one thing they both agree on is, don’t go on the Internet to find the answer. But I went looking anyway what else am I supposed to do? I didn’t really find an answer. I did find more information saying don’t take the hormone but just because there’s more of it saying that doesn’t mean it’s right. 🤔

Scrolling through RU-vid mindlessly like usual and here pops up one of your fasting videos. Thankfully I clicked on it and got inspired. It gave me so much hope to get healthy and happy mentally and physically again. Fasting, a little bit of working out (your abs workout is awesome!) And changing my diet to eat healthy, get rid of all processed food and very very low if no sugar has saved me. I'm down to 176lbs as of this morning thanks to you doing the work to make all these amazing videos. Thank you so much for helping me get my life back! You are the true champion!

Last October of 2022 I went for an HbA1C test that came back at 6.4. I found Dr Ecberg and a couple of others here on RU-vid and watched all of their videos. I cut out all sugar, except I have a weakness for milk, and this week I tested at 5.3% so I averted diabetes. I will have to maintain the keto diet to stay safe, in other words, I still have diabetes, it will come right back if I go back to the standard American diet. Oh well, my two obese sisters are on dozens of medications per day, plus insulin, and they are still struggling. I'm 66, and I went dancing three nights ago til 1 AM and most of the women I danced with were about 30-35 years old. I'm down to my high school weight, feeling great. Thank Dr Ekberg.

It is the A1 protein in most Milk due to a relatively recent (within the last few centuries) mutation in cows in Europe, made them improved milk producers which is why they are everywhere. There are A2 ONLY milks, however goat and buffalo and sheep milk etc are pure A2. Also Goat milk and cheese especially fetta ( hard cheese ) are exceptionally good and contain lots of MCT's also sheep

Dr Ekberg, I have transformed my life by listening very carefully to all of your videos. I’m 61, have been a T2D for over 20 years, and was quite obese. Since February, I have lost lots of weight by going on a strict keto diet and doing intermittent fasting. Mostly I do OMAD, but switch it up to 2MAD once in a while. I live in Nicaragua, so I haven’t had my A1C done, but plan to the end of April. Everything is going great, I am feeling wonderful with this eating style and lots of walking. The only problem is that my blood sugar is right around 150 all the time. It’s stable, but still so high after all this time. Any suggestions?

Especially NOT DIET soda!* *No cow's milk.* 🥛 *Eat some walnuts, pecans, and macadamia nuts.* Drink *water with electrolytes.* Stay away from any processed keto products in the beginning. Chances are, you're not going to like them. Give your taste buds a chance to adjust without sugar. After a while, give some keto products a try. *But* you need to *read labels* to watch out for *unhealthy ingredients* and even *toxic ingredients.* Store bought Keto bread is among some of the worst processed foods you can eat. I absolutely loved your videos but this one was hit on the spot. I am a female in the middle of my 40s and most of my life my weight has been considered normal according to the average weight published in medical journals, but it was a real struggle to maintain my weight. Each time when I lose control of my portions (which can be easily explained with overconsumption of carbohydrates) i gain few kilos just like that and then the same circle of food restrictions had to be implemented in my daily routine. It is exhausting indeed. I am happy that thanks to your videos here i changed my perception of food and can proudly announce I am on keto now. Started 3 weeks ago and I have never been better. I can see not only I am loosing centimetres of my hips but also my face is rejuvenating as I couldn't even dream of. I look better now than in my 30s. Keep that pace doc. Because of this he is very limited on protein intake and potassium. So, doing the high protein and a cast amount of veggies that have high potassium but are considered very healthy is an issue. Thank you @madisonm.1646. Gestational just means that during pregnancy you have more of a tendency that is already there. You do not need carbohydrates more than anybody else. How did children get born before we had a bunch of carbs from agriculture? We never had that many carbs. You may need a few more carbs during breast feeding to cover the lactose in the milk, but nowhere near the amounts recommended.

I feel better and healthier than I have ever been. I am aiming to get my Hba1c down to 35 (5.3) I don't think I'm there yet but I am so convinced by the evidence I am determined to get as close as I can. Incidentally I asked my GP to check my insulin level and she said it's not offered in the UK.

This is an interesting topic, particularly for me. I have always battled stress and obesity. for the last 23 years I have also had Diabetes. I have done this diet and that diet with mediocre temporary results - but combined with the Gym - at one stage I was getting fit and down 40kg. But that diet was self devised since I found no nutritionist who would stray from the routine. Having several chronic disorders, they would restrict the advice to the one specifically prescribed. If Diabetes, then I was handed the same old leaflets, weighed and glucose measured - and sent on my way. Upon reaching home, reality was that I needed some dietary compromise - and professionals these days are incapable of compromise. So I expect their training is restricted to knowing which collection of leaflets to dispense for what, and not about what is actually the best approach the patient can take for what collection of conditions. I do not bother with nutritionists now. The best I have managed is on a self devised diet, which would send a professional into apoplexy - but it is the one that reduced 40kg and got me fit. So I have some experiences, good and bad. I attempted carnivore some time back, but found it expensive, and some changes made me panic. So off diet again. But recently I decided to attempt a carnivore KETO. It is not 100% meat with fat (but very close to it). Weight is plummeting, with no cravings, no HYPOs, maintaining energy and focus - but also NOT HUNGRY. I have long wondered / doubted many of the collection of prescribed pills I have. They seem not to do any good. But now I have to consider, "should I eat - even when not hungry - in order to take doubtful pills as per label instructions?" I hate taking pills for the sake of taking pills and for being COMPLIANT.. Bear in mind my doctor has fed me politically directed and medically unsound advice - I cannot depend on him. So sorry for this long saga, but maybe another viewer might find these thoughts interesting and perhaps useful. I am not medically trained - it is not advice - but details my journey of taking responsibility and making my own judgements for health.

Thank you, thank you for this wonderful video. I am diabetic and have tried controlling my glucose by essentially eating as you described. But recently I was hospitalized with a superbug bacterial infection that almost killed me, pneumonia, UTI, skin breakdown, it was bad. I have resisted insulin during the past 5 years since I was diagnosed, but all the doctors insisted I have supplementary insulin injections because the treatment for the superbug included massive intravenous antibiotics sessions, and they were right, during every session, my numbers skyrocketed, so insulin based on my numbers, plus anticoagulants. It was painful, took 10 days to beat it, I'm now recovering at home. But I never wanted to go on insulin, ever. Today I'm fasting, my glucose is at 100, but based upon what you have advised us in this video, I've realized that my doctors actually advocate many of these myths. Have you any suggestions to aid in my recovery? Also, while in hospital, they provided meals that follow the US guidelines, also something I've learned to circumvent in favor of green vegies and lean meats and avocado. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.❤

My father had been operated on esophagus cancer 20 years ago. His stomach has been cut in pieces to rebuild the esophagus tube that had to be removed. He was not a "normal" patient, as he actually wasn't smoking and always has been very activ. From the very beginning on of his after surgery journey, he was taught to eat sugary and fatty things (he was losing weight week after week) to get enough energy in the body again - with a quarter of his stomach left. But he has actually big difficulties to manage his bloodsugar. My parents eat mostly healthy (a lot of vegetables, often from the own garden, meat from well raised animals..) but they also eat a lot of pasta, patatoes, rice, self baked bread (with good quality flower, whole grain and so forth..), self made apple pies, self made cookies and other sugary things. My dad has to begin his day with an apple, cereals in apple juice to get some energy in the morning.. After nearly each meal, my father is depleted for an hour or two - but I don't know if he, as his stomach isn't "normal" any more, could go away from those sugary things? Would it be possible even for him, to try out a sugar free diet? I also see his mood very affected during the day.

Drinks of choice are now Unsweetened iced Tea, Hot Green tea, purified water or a little coffee in the morning. Sometimes just hot tea in the mornings. Does this mean I don’t have an occasional dessert? No, it doesn’t. Instead of an entire slice of cake or Pie, I have one bite. I still enjoy an occasional potato or rice. But just a very small potato (not a 12oz baked potato) or about a Tbsp of rice is acceptable to me. My fasting sugars are normal It’s about discipline. It’s about Give and take adjustments. Life doesn’t have to be an “All or Nothing” proposition. Binge eating is not allowed. Be smart, be disciplined.. Diet modification takes time. Dr. Ekberg, could you do a video aimed at those recently diagnosed with really chronic type 2 diabetes, e.g. A1C of 12 and fasting glucose of 17. Because for diabetics like this whose endocrine systems are well and truly wrecked it’s often not enough to just “cut carbs”, “go keto”, “go carnivore” or do intermittent fasting (time restricted eating). Imagine a scenario where you have fasted for 4 days to bring your fasting glucose from say 15 to 4.7 mmol\L. You then break your fast with a ketogenic meal, some meat, eggs, maybe some cheese, and within 2 hours your glucose has spiked right back up to 12.8, just on ingredients which supposedly contain hardly any carb content. Clearly the person’s insulin resistance is through the roof. But then they need to wait it out again not just 12 hours (intermittent fast/time restrictive), not even 24 hours (which only brings them back down to 9 or 10), but 36 hours or even longer before they can eat again. That would basically make their existence one long week-long fast after another, broken only by a solitary keto meal. Obviously that regimen would not only be miserable but not sustainable, but that’s what a chronic newly-diagnosed diabetic might be facing. So what should he do? Kick off his keto campaign with one massive 14, 21 or 30 day water fast? Just to reset his metabolism? Because just “going keto” or even doing “alternate day fasting” is still leaving him at dangerous glucose levels (not to mention pretty hungry due to the constant need to keep fasting just to get insulin down!) Thanks.

When it comes to measuring only glucose and a1c on a blood test that makes absolute sense for doctors. If their strategy is to fight DM2 with medication and medication only it doesn't matter what the insulin levels are as long as the glucose is still in range. They can and 'need' only start treating when it increases. It's incredibly sad how little effort is spent on preventative healthcare.

Excellent explanation, No. 9 is the one that many doctors really don't grasp because they seldom measure insulin (I finally got it done and is showed I was headed in the wrong direction) and even then if it is not out of the so called normal range they think it is fine. "Normal" for an unhealthy population is not good. It is videos like this and others that have helped me to take control of my health despite a lack of cooperation/guidance from doctors. I find that they don't disagree with me but they are only told to worry about things that they can prescribe for like "fake" LDL problems. Educate yourself everyone - your health depends on it.

You are right about SAD foods also provide comfort - food companies need addicts to help them maintain their profits.

Helpful video, thank you. I’m 55 & recently got my A1C results - prediabetic. Perfect timing for this video, I’m listening & learning. May you please recommend an effective, budget-friendly blood sugar meter?

These myths are perpetuated via the Pharmaceutical Industries influence over Medical School Curriculum. Doctors are trained, tested and brainwashed, to prescribe Pharmaceuticals for every symptom. The American Medical Association, AMA, to "promote the art and science of medicine..." board is manned by Pharmaceutical Representatives, CEOs. Doctors are required to follow, "The Standard of Care", set by Pharmaceutical Insurance Industries, or else face loss of Malpractice insurance and their Medical License. The Medical System is literally rigged to maintain maximum profit, or else.

Stunningly simple presentation surrounding the key issues in most of human (un)healthly lifestyles. Should be mandatory in school education.

Love your channel, Would love to know your opinion on oxalates. Without these I have no food variation.

Thank you @martinrowles1499. There are many things that most people tolerate well in moderation and which like you said, help provide some variety to food, but which can have devastating effects on some people who are sensitive. Oxalates are especially bad if you have a tendency for kidney stones. 😄

@@andyc7747 me either. Plus Sally says that the bodynstores them. I don't see why someone wants to have them stored and them have to get them out. I haven't been a vegetarian but I think my body is trying to get them out. Plus I've been very stiff and not in the good way😂. Supposedly the body stored them where you've been injured before. I've been noticing myself feeling better in some spots like my back, knees, arms, neck, feet, like they are getting lubricated or something after just eating meat. Soon as I ad anything plant I get stiff again. The other day I had a piece of pecan pie and a bunch of things started to hurt where I almost couldn't lift weights. Tried it a gain 2 days latter just to see and again it was horrible. They say iceberg lettuce is mostly water. Well it does the same thing to me. It's not a placebo effect I don't think. I'll keep trying stuff too see. Kinda fun to find out but when I can't lift weights it sucks because I don't have much time to mess around. Getting old and wanna keep looking better before I can't 😁

@@andyc7747 thanks. It's taken a while and some times one forgets to pay attention but it is cool when you can figure things out. Today I found another thing that doesn't agree with me and gave me a stomach ache with in 5 minutes of eating it. Lucky for me I didn't eat much. It was bree cheese. I used to eat it all the time and probably blamed it on something else even though I don't remember it doing that. I thought aged cheese caused less milk problems. It's weird.

I wanted to comment because been following the advice of Dr Ekburg for a while and staying regular sticking to the new diet. Had no way of weighing myself but noticed my jeans had gone from difficult to pull them up over my gut to being loose. Just got a tape measure to use and keep up with how much change is taking place. Lost 3 inches in 6 days. It has been another day or 2 and decided to check again because it looked like my belly had lost more ( which seem impossible because just had my pigout day but kept to the intermittent fasting regime) so I checked and it is another inch gone in that short time even though I give myself a treat by eating out and big platefull of meat dishes and also get a Protein bar at the suppliment shop because I like chocolate treats. Even though I did that yesterday today I measure and lost another inch off my belly. Seems crazy because I have no hunger even though I am intermittent fasting the 16 hour version and just 3 small meals per day but with each I take in some fat, coconut fat or olive oil or butter. Just some fat with each of the 3 meals. I lost so much weight with zero exercise and noticeable each day.
