I'll never blame wwe for having a Chris Benoit tribute show. Who in the world would have ever thought what happened actually happened.

Agreed, I watched it the night it aired, and it was obvious he was a much respected and loved member of the WWE family. Nobody at the time gave any indication that they thought of him as the kind of guy who would have done what he did. Honestly, it must have been even worse for them after the truth was fully known, that their good friend and coworker that they thought they knew, suddenly becoming a monster.

The Wrestlemania XIX Storyline with Triple H vs Booker T would have worked PERFECTLY if Booker T beat Triple H. If the heel just lost at the biggest moment of the year and Booker T became World Champion, it would probably be brushed aside as trying to hard or even vindicated as heat. Instead it was too much for NO realistic payoff.
@SupraViperhead
@SupraViperhead 2 года назад
That was probably the original plan, but then Goldberg signed with WWE shortly before WrestleMania and WWE decided it would be best for Goldberg to beat Triple H for the title instead of Booker T; whether that was because they didn't Goldberg to take the belt off of another Babyface or they didn't want two WCW guys fighting for the Big Gold Belt...or maybe a bit of both. Hindsight is 2020 and looking at what went down after WrestleMania XIX, it's hard to imagine what the title match stories would've been had Booker T won. It would've been a great ending to the story that was being told, but there have to be stories that follow and it was better for Goldberg to end the long title reign of a heel than the short title reign of a face.

The issue with Bradshaw, looking back at it 20 years later, is that we were so sad and mad about what happened in Lower Manhattan and at the Pentagon that we relied on our emotions first without understanding the truth. I don't want to get into a deep discussion, however, we ended up in not 1 but 2 wars. But were BS for similar yet different reasons. One of those wars (Iraq) was BS because they had nothing to do with what happened in Lower Manhattan & at the Pentagon and showed that this nation did not have its priorities in check. The other war (Afghanistan) was BS, now looking at it in today's lens, because it lasted 20 years, with the last 10 years (2011-2021) occurring AFTER we finally go the guy who messed with us as well as during the first 10 years (2001-2011) we were more worried about the other war (2003-2011), the funds that went to the the 20 year war were not being used as intended, and what was going on in Afghanistan was ALREADY going on before September 11th. Look up the John Oliver segment in which he talks about the entire history of the War in Afghanistan because he is spot on. But, long story short, while I totally understand where everyone's mind set was at when 9/11 happened, the United States' response to the attacks is a cautionary tale of doing things based only on your emotions: it never ends well. You have to have the facts.

OK. Chris Benoit. What happened to his family was tragic. And it put a huge spotlight on the dangers of brain injuries as they relate to wrestling. I of course in no way support what Benoit did and was just as shocked as anyone else when I heard. But Benoit wasn’t in control of himself. I think it is safe to say that Benoit would never have even considered doing what he did if it weren’t for his issues. And I am actually glad that the WWE recognized his career. He really was one of the best. His feud with Kevin Sullivan in WCW was awesome. The guy put his heart and soul into his work. Just a shame he has to be remembered this way. @@dennett316 I really don't understand that. If you're applying makeup to change the color of your skin to make fun of a race as a whole, that's one thing, but if you're imitating or making fun of a SPECIFIC person, it's okay to dress like them, wear fake hair that looks like theirs, talk like them, act like them in an exaggerated way, but if your skin is a significantly different color than theirs, THAT is the line? Like, I can dress up as, imitate, and make fun of a specific person as much as I want, trying to look as much like them in a satirical way as possible, but if they're significantly lighter or darker than me, why is using paint to make my skin lighter or darker the absolute no-go zone? What makes that worse than any other part of it? So no I see nothing wrong saying that the country responsible for the attacks would be turned into a parking lot. People aren't soft for finding people salivating at the chance to kill in retaliation a bit distasteful, the people expressing that sentiment are blood-thirsty and inhuman. Maybe that he was suggesting that an entire country be turned into a "parking lot" - something which would obviously result in countless innocent civilian casualties - as retribution for the actions of a terrorist group. He also heaped praise on GW Bush. As it turned out, he fairly accurately predicted what ended up being done to Afghanistan over the next couple of decades. Turned out that Bin Laden was actually hiding out in Pakistan and none of the hijackers were from Afghanistan, but little details like that didn't matter to Bush and co, so they set about turning Afghanistan into a "parking lot" anyway. Then of course Bush followed that up by invading Iraq and turning it into a "parking lot" over the weapons of mass destruction that they didn't actually have. That shoot first and ask questions later (or not at all) kind of attitude is what leads to countless civilian deaths.
