I can understand Cena and Rock headlining WrestleMania 28 after the ginormous buildup to it and them being two of the biggest stars of the industry but the HHH vs Undertaker rematch in Hell in a Cell with HBK as referee was incredible as all of them put on a fantastic show. The three of them standing at the top of the ramp at the end of the match is an image that I will never forget

Would definitely have Undertaker/Punk over "Twice in a lifetime" on this list!!

*Dean Ambrose vs. Triple H should’ve been the main event at WrestleMania 32 because Ambrose was more over than Roman Reigns at the time and honestly deserved a little more. I don’t hate Roman Reigns at all (I never have) but they should’ve gone with Ambrose because that way the crowd would’ve gone home happy rather than ending the show with a huge course of boos. Plus their match at Roadblock was a sleeper hit of a match.*

Normally I’m pretty agreeable with you guys, but I just have to say this. The best match of the night/the match you most enjoyed is not always the best option for the Main Event.

To be fair, I don't think anyone thought Rousey's debut would have been as good as it was. It was truly incredible.

imagine the outrage if Ronda/Angle vs HHH/Stephanie would've been the main event of Mania 34. Ronda didn't have a single match under her belt at that point, Stephanie isn't even a wrestler, Kurt and Triple H were both on part time schedule (which every wrestling fan loves in a main event cough cough) and the crowd would've been tired one way or another, regardless of the match quality. In general, whoever wrote this whole list has incredible hindsight bias lol

Rock vs Hogan is a classic for the fan reaction alone.

At WrestleMania 34 honestly Charlotte vs Asuka should have ended the show. They main evented Royal Rumble, they had the whole Streak vs Title match and it was a compelling singles match that could live up to “the first time women main evented WrestleMania”. Also, the Asuka’s streak ending for her taping out had the shock factor that the WM main event should have

Honestly no one knew how good any of these matches were going to turn out so I understand why they didn't main event. Rock/Hogan is the only one that SHOULD have been the main event

I feel like KofI vs Bryan should've main evented WM35. Don't get me wrong. I know that we needed women's main event at some point but I felt that it came at the wrong time. Kofi was the underdog like Bryans five years ago and gave us a beautiful emotional finish. The match though not a classic or anything was still great. The main event imo sucked all the way to end. Like why did they have to make it a triple threat. Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair would've been more than enough. Two of the greatest wrestlers of today battling it out in the climax of The Show of Shows. Instead they had to stick in Ronda too. It was morning here in India when the match ended and I felt exhausted and bored. I can't imagine how y'all felt in USA. Staying up so late only to get a dumb finish

Rock v Hogan absolutely is the main event of WM 18. That's the loudest I ever heard a crowd. It was beyond electric. Then HHH vs Jericho, normally a better match on paper, just bored everyone. If it had gone on first, the crowd would have been much more into it.

Having been at WM 34.... sorry I get that the mixed tag got a whole lot of wow due to no one expecting Rhonda to be so good..... but really the match that was best and best story leading into the show was Charlotte vs. Asuka

I have one main problem with this list. With the VERY rare exception, the top title should always go on last. If the guys fighting for it aren’t the best, or if there is a better non-title bout further down the card, that is just poor booking

Before watching, Bret-Austin should've been rebooked for the title and should've been the main event.

Wrestlemania 19 I was 13 years old, in Mexico Wwe was a filler show for blank midnight spaces i didnt knew what was wrestling or WWE, the Hogan Vs Rock match was so epic that even the local news cover it

I agree on Goldberg v Lesnar. If not that it should have been Jericho v KO. Also agree on Taker v Michaels and Taker v HHH, the ending of that alone should have made it go on last and I wish it really had been their last clash.

The biggest mistake WWE has ever made was not giving Rock v Hogan the main event. That should've absolutely closed the show! Hogan's return Mania, the man who made Mania ffs!

In hindsight, Bret vs Austin was the obvious main event. But at the time, it was very well placed as the co main. I wanted to see the big house beat each other up. That's the feeling back then. And I live it as a die hard fan and that's what I wanted to see.

Yeah Taker vs Reigns should only have been the main event if they were actually planning that to be Undertaker's retirement. I also believe Punk v Taker at WM 29 should've been the main event over Rock v Cena 2. You knew going into that match who was winning it, and it had lost some of the passion the first time around had.

That WrestleMania 27 match, that was the time I truly believed the streak would be over, and the time I felt like it made sense to be. The match was great, all the ways it went, I remember seeing it and to truly believe it could happen. I remember believing it all until that moment when the sledgehammer slips from his hand during that Heel's Gate. The next year I wasn't even concerned about it, as I knew they wouldn't end it in that rematch, with those stipulations. Fast-forward, with Brock I knew it could happen, I knew it would, and to me it made and still makes perfect sense it went like that. Brock was the beast, still is, and a good part is due that match there. I like Brock. But never, ever there was a match so good to end the streak as that with Triple H. He was avenging his retired friend, he was proving himself, not looking for another title, but to do what he couldn't, what nobody until then could, so he would be one of the greats if not the greatest from there on. And yet it didn't happen. I still believe it was good for Brock, but it just didn't have the same impact as it would have if it would have been Hunter the first one getting the win, if it would have been the 18-1. That was the match of all matches, the one that would have been great for both to end it like that.

I like that some of the best WM cards (or any event for that matter) have their best moments in the 2nd act. Case in point: many consider WM17 to be the best WM ever, but a lot of ppl reacted negatively to Austin's heel run, which started at WM17. By proxy, that match shouldn't be worthy enough to end a show with. However, the storytelling was one of a kind and couldn't be told by just one match... but it was important enough to cap off a card that stacked. TLC2, Taker vs Trips, [REDACTED] vs Angle... all matches that could've potentially ended an average WM card. The 2nd act of a movie usually has the best parts, and honestly if I was watching WM7 live and saw Hogan vs Slaughter first, I wouldn't have made it to Savage vs Warrior. Ppl covet main event status, but the mid card is what keeps the event afloat.

It should’ve been a Triple threat at WM29. Not only would it have added more substance to it rather than “Twice in a life time” Punk would’ve added so much more even if he lost the belt.

Styles vs Nakamura at Wrestlemania 34 should’ve main-evented the show, and the powers that be should’ve let them go all out with their performances. Either guy could have won.

Odd as it sounds, I can't really agree with you on WM13. Yes, Austin vs Hart was one of the greatest Wrestlemania matches of all time and one of the most significant matches in the history of the industry, but it wasn't main event material. It was the match that _made_ Austin, but that's kind of the point- before this match, Austin wasn't a made man in the WWF. If they were on last, people would be asking "Why is this the main event?" It wasn't for a title, it wasn't between the two biggest stars in the company, it was just a violent grudge match with an odd stipulation (both Austin and Hart questioned why they had to have a Submission Match as both felt it would limit them) which was only the best match of the night in hindsight. Sure, the _actual_ main event was terrible, but while the show needed something better, Austin vs Hart wasn't the match to do it unless it had been rebooked to be for higher stakes than just "I hate you" (e.g Bret promising to quit the WWF if Austin beat him).

The triple threat for the world heavyweight championship between Rey Mysterio Kurt Angle and Randy Orton at WrestleMania 22 in Chicago should've gone on last. The year after that The Undertaker vs Batista for the world heavyweight championship should've closed the show at WrestleMania 23 in Detroit instead of Cena vs Michaels.

From a personal of point of view, while I had watched wrestling a bit and liked it between 1990 and 1992 Wrestlemania 8 is what made me fall in love with Wrestling. It was the Bret Hart match but it was the drama of the main event with papa shango and warrior's run ins that made me fall in love with wrestling as a 9 year old. Yes I had liked wrestling but ny obsession began with that Mania 8 main event so for me it was right to go on last.

Where's Punk vs Taker WM 29?

Triple H and Jericho apparently fought for Rock/Hogan as main event of X8, but the bookers insisted their title match be main event instead.

I don't think the comments section is meant for as much space as I would need to explain why some of these are wrong. The only ones I agree with are WM18 & maybe WM33. The rest were fine the way they were. Well maybe not WM9 but that's really a different discussion.

Although Edge vs The Undertaker was great, Ric Flair's Final (WWE) Match should have headlined Wrestlemania 24.

Just watched the Undertaker Documentary. Apparently the Roman Reigns match was supposed to be his retirement. 'Handing over his yard' and all that. But the match was so crap he hated going out like that and wanted a redemption match. Trained really well and came to Cena but that was booked too short even though he felt ready. Hence the Goldberg fiasco. Lucky we managed to get a good one with AJ as his final match.

Rousey/Angle v.s Trips/Steph had absolutely NO right to be as good as it was. I can still remember repeatedly saying "This match shouldnt work, but why does it?" to my friends over Skype. And we all agreed in the end. A great match that on paper should've been awful

Undertaker VS HHH Wrestle Mania 27

The Bret Hart vs Yokozuna thing is half-cheating (it's less re-ordering the matches and more writing one out of existence), but I think it should have been a bit higher on the list. (Also, given how Hulk Hogan won the Bret Hart vs Yokozuna match, I think giving Hulkamania vs Sgt Slaughter's nuclear heat main event status is a decent way to deal with Hulkster's ego)

I have some mixed feelings with some of the choices here, but I 100% agree that the Hogan vs Rock match should have closed Wrestlemania 18. That was actually the hottest storyline going into that years Wrestlemania.
