Great video, Andrew. I saw your first video about 2 1/2 years ago after experiencing two spark plug misfires in 63000 miles of driving my 2010 honda Accord. Your guidance helped me install the vcmuzzler and it has been fine since. No misfires, no oil consumption. It is my wife's car and due to covid she has only driven the car 7000 miles since I installed the vcmuzzler. But, I still think it has been a tremendous success. And, like you, I feel the car drives better with the full time 6 cylinders. Because she only drives short distances and fuel fill ups are few and far between, I do not have a handle on how fuel economy has be affected. I really don't care. Thanks again for this update.

I did this to my 2013 Accord V6 sedan. Even though it only has 26,000 mi on it, this little resistor kit was probably the best thing I ever did to it. It's smooth, you don't hear the engine running. There's no Juddering, this is what Honda should have made. Shame they sacrificed quality for 1 mile per gallon and some EPA brownie points.

just installed S-VCM Controller , similar product, on 2007 honda odyssey with VCM1 engine. with 242k miles, could tell the difference. it is using a little more gas but going to measure that. the problems we had oil consumption, complete valve cover replacement and recently started feeling a slight imbalance in the engine when running on 3 cylinders. vcm delete corrected that imbalance. we will see how it does on the oil consumption, as I am about to change the oil and will measure how much oil I add. I was adding about 2 qts every oil change cycle. note the VCM1 oil chance duration is about 3-4k. and usinges 5w20 not 0w20.

The muzzler has a resistor that lowers the temperature that the ECM is receiving which in turn wont let the VCM system to activate . When the thermostat opens too slowly the temperature finally reaching VCM parameters thus activating cylinder management. This is one of the precautions of using a muzzler or tuner . So beware that the system is tricked into thinking the vehicle hasn't reached operating temperature and won't employ VCM. This could be a problem if it overheats . I would caution whenever getting scheduled maintenance to change that $30 thermostat.

If I were to do such a review on our 2007 Odyssey that has never had the VCM muzzled, I would report no issues whatsoever after 291,000 miles. Plugs look great, no oil consumption, engine runs smooth, powerful and likely has many miles of service left. Why is that? Not sure, but I have been very diligent about maintenance ever since we bought the van brand new.

I'm one of the "lucky" ones. 06 EX-L with 213,000 miles on it. No signs of VCM-related engine wear. I still ended up muzzling mine with the SVCM. Eliminating the "hunting" between 3 cyl and 6 cyl mode alone was worth it. But in the end it just simplifies its operation. Always using 6 cylinders all the time is just better for it.

Beware, you may find like we did that a new vehicle can be worse, or in our case dreadful to drive, compared to the old one. My wife replace her 2010 Odyssey Touring model with a new 2023 Honda Odyssey a year ago. Was impressed with all the safety technology it has standard on all models. However, I hate driving it. It does not drive nearly as well as the old 2010 (which we still have). The new one requires constant steering corrections at freeway speeds, or it will wander in the lane constantly unless you turn on lane guidance, which constantly corrects for this automatically. But that is awful on a long trip. If you don't grip the steering wheel with both hands, it will flash warnings on the dash screen, then disengage after just a few minutes. It also tries to vere off at every off-ramp if you are in the right lane because it thinks the right painted line is the road. Poorly designed and fatiguing to drive. So when I took a 3400-mile road trip last month, I took the old 2010 Odyssey, and it drives effortlessly and fatigue free. I opened a case with Honda, and they examined the vehicle and said that is the way they drive. If this is the way new Honda's drive, buy something else.

I thought the "ECO" dash light meant "Economy" mode. In the old days, some cars had a vacuum gauge to measure how much work the engine was doing. Step on the gas pedal HARD and you would have almost no intake manifold vacuum. Take your foot off the pedal and you have high vacuum. I thought that the "ECO" mode was just a variation on the vacuum gauge showing that you were driving "ECONOMICALLY" when pressing lightly on the gas pedal and the "ECO" light would go off when stepping hard on the gas pedal.

You can DIY the VCM Muzzler yourself. I'll post a video at the end of this reply. Yes, VCM Muzzler is not a device from Honda, so the dealership will not install it or would recommend it. Note, it can also void warranty (and that's why some owners remove them when the vehicle is in service. And put it back after.) If oil is already leaking (oil consumption) and causing a misfire, I would look to get that fix. Is Honda covering the repairs? I would get the piston rings fixed first, as damage has already happened. Then put the VCM Muzzler on. I don’t know and can’t answer that because my radiator fan still works great. From what I understand/read, the temp would still go up. The actual temp would be 7-10 degrees greater. But that sort of does not matter because the engine is overheating. Meaning 240 degrees vs 250 degrees is the “same” as one should not be driving and turn the engine off immediately.

@@stromer24 I'm having the same issue. I have a 2013 Honda Odyssey Touring Model sitting at the dealership right now for two weeks! They wanna do Piston rings and Cat Converter replacement. Of course, I'm out of warranty on the vehicle, and of course, Honda admits no wrongdoing, and the full repair of the vehicle is nearly 8K!!!! I have a complaint to Honda with a case number and am anxiously awaiting their response. I had to go out and buy a beater car just to get by until this issue is resolved. The anger I am feeling towards Honda right now can't be put into words. I owe on the vehicle, and the damn repair costs more than what I owe...... In the meantime, I bought a VCM tuner and am hoping I can at least get Honda to cover the Cat Converter replacement. if so, I'll take the vehicle back, replace the spark plugs, change the oil, install the tuner, and hope for the best. Otherwise, I am going to push the vehicle off a cliff and devote my life to exposing Honda for their bad faith practices and unethical consumer dealings. After all, the only reason people got a warranty on this issue in the first place is because Honda was sued and decided to settle instead of doing the right thing and issuing a recall on all vehicles and doing a proper fix on them free of charge!!! Scummy Scummy behavior, and just more of what we can expect from greedy corporations who won't do right by their customers!!

My Honda Tech told me on the occasion the ECO Light illuminates, it's false, not dropping to 4 Cyl..
@andrewwang3900
@andrewwang3900 2 года назад
Correct. The ECO light just mean the engine is being efficient, and does not alway mean VCM mode is on. The V6 engine can be “efficient” running with all 6 cylinders. VCM always = ECO light. ECO does not always = VCM.
@U-tuber98
@U-tuber98 2 года назад
@@andrewwang3900 Correct, but my Honda Mechanic told me once the Muzzler is installed, the ECO light is now false, even when illuminated, it's still constant V-6.
@andrewwang3900
@andrewwang3900 2 года назад
I think we are sort of saying the same thing. ECO can still be at all 6 cylinders. ECO does not always mean it’s at 4 cylinders. It just mean the engine is being efficient. And the engine can be efficient with all 6 cylinders firing during light load situations. I would not call it false completely as the ECO really should be an indicator of efficiency.

pretty sure Engine coolant temperature sensor TWO takes over in the event that the ECT1 is unplugged; however, this does not prevent overheating and simply just states the temperature to ECT1 - assuming you didnt drive it for weeks on end like that and only a day or two and if your coolant system was in good working order when you had ECT1 unplugged you SHOULD be fine edit: also, come to think of it, worst case that I can think of was that your thermostat was stuck OPEN to freeflow coolant since ECT1 couldnt properly track the temperature - in this instance, again, assuming your cooling system was in good working order the worst thing that really would've happened is your heating goes out due the thermostat being stuck open

@@andrewwang3900 can I also ask how often you changed transmission fluid over the years? Did you also add a transmission cooler?
@andrewwang3900
@andrewwang3900 Год назад
It’s a 9 quart system, I used to do a 1x change 20-30k miles. I stretch it to 40k the last few years because the fluid that drains out looks rather clean. You can only drain out about 3.5 quarts each time. If this is your first time, you may want to consider a 3x replacement, to get a fresh start. Looks like you don’t have that many miles, but 2016 is somewhat “old.” If you are thinking of paying a dealership to do this, then just stay 1x. why you decided to bypass it if you can fix the problem? I wonder if you reflash the PCM or replace the VCM module worse case instead of buying a bypass device?
@andrewwang3900
@andrewwang3900 2 года назад
This is a long term review of a device that would disable the VCM. It’s what I went with back in 2014, and put my trust with the person that created it. If there's another solution today, I don't know. Back then, this was the only solution.

This has been going on with many auto Manufacturers not just Honda , they have not perfected this technology. The simple fix is not so simple it would have happened many years ago. The benefit of VCM comes at a price of engine and or transmission problems.

I have a 2009 Honda Odyssey it has 193,000 miles and has been running great until a few week ago. I started to get misfires and I made it home. the engine light was flashing so I took it to auto zone where the gave me codes as follows. P0430 Car Eff below threshold B2, Anti lock brake system Replace battery. 61-1 control unit low voltage, 62-1 Millimeter Wave Radar sensor Error, 83-1 can communication failure. Then I replaced battery. Then the P0430 went away and I got P0302 Misfire No 2 cylinder, and Random misfires detected. and it said change spark plugs and Coil packs so I did. Still ran a little rough. So I took it to the dealer and they supposedly put on there computer and charged me 177.00 to tell me the same thing that auto zone told me for free. Yet the said I have to replace rings and replace spark plugs and coil packs... Witch tells me that they did not do a compression check or they would have seen new coil packs and spark plugs. When I brought that up in our conversation they said plugs must be fouled when driving the three miles to there shop. Yet the plugs that I replaced did not look bad all but two in the back that did have a little black on them. Yet still didn't look that bad. So now my dash is lit up like a Christmas tree. I asked them about the muzzler and didn't get much from them. Is it possible that the alternator could be causing all of these problems? Could it be that I need to put in a muzzler? Do you think wither of these could help??
@andrewwang3900
@andrewwang3900 9 месяцев назад
Sorry to read this. I don't think this has anything to do with the alternator, as the VCM issues are not "electrical." The VCM Muzzler is best before, as a preventative. It will not solve or resolve the issues. In your situation, I would get everything fixed before putting on the Muzzler. Then their may be the engine mount issue, if you are still on the original mounts. You'll have to decide if pouring lots of money into an "old" car is worth it. Sorry, no good new reply here.
