This must be so great, for a dutch band to have your song played like this i love golden earring and iam a dutch guy 37 years old but love this band from den haag nederland
To Elvis Has Left The Building. I am not getting those horrible commercials. I decided to "pay protection money" to RU-vid instead, £12. Worth it, and you can also get videos of any song you have heard of too!
Holy shit!!! What a Dada Surrealistic Pop Culture thing to do! Wonderful! Loved it! Hello Golden Earring! Can you find a finer tribute? We, and ALL those damn drummers, love ya, and yer song! Now, Twilight Zone!!!
This was an essentially flawed concept from the start. You can hear the beat drifting all over the place when they do anything more than knock their sticks together. The issue is not with any of their individual abilities to keep time, it's to do with the distance the sound is travelling before all the drummers can hear it. Unlike classical music which doesn't usually have any discernible beat, contemporary drumming requires near zero latency in order to be able to react in time to make the beat accurate. Logically a delay of 100 milliseconds between the mic'd drummer on the stage hitting his drum and the last drummer at the back hearing it, is going to make for some lousy beat matching. You get the same problem at large festivals where the sound control stage is too far from the main stage for them to react quickly enough during live mixing.
Van een Amerikaner met en oranje hart.. Gefeliciteerd !!! Je echt het verdient!!! :):) Sorry, het Nederlands is niet mijn moeder taal, maar word ik beter!! :):)
Translated for the rest of us... 5 September 1992 organized Cesar Zuiderwijk Golden Earring along with the Municipality of Rotterdam during the World Port Days thousand drummers on the mesh. It was at the same time a record for the Guinness Book of Records. That day were done so more record attempts, as the biggest cake baking, which was then eaten by a thousand drummers. I was one of the thousands of drummers and I can justly say that it was a day to remember. I loved it. I have the entire program and also some private home video images, but found this clip on Earring really special. Dank u voor het posten!
What an amazing and incredible contrast to one of the first clips of this song in 1973 when the audience ( and use that term loosely) seated around the group looked as though they'd all been drugged. Well done to all who got this sorted .. a 1,000 drums. Mind-blowing exercise!
I can't believe this actually happened. The logistics alone.. Baffling to me. Golden Earring - the Dutch national treasure. The Beatles of the Netherlands. I got blood; grandfather had German dad and Dutch mother, Fanny Verhelst , born in Netherlands . Gramp was born in Holland, Michigan in 1896.
The conductor was a drum teacher at the music school in my birthplace. Sadly he's now passed away. One his pupils was a class mate of mine in ground school. Absolutely awesome to find this on RU-vid after all these years. I never watched in on television back then. Because of that drum teacher's involvement it was the talk of the town back then.
FYI. "ground school": In the states it's "elementary school" or "grade school". If memory serves me correctly, some places also call it "grammar school", like in the UK.
His memory does not serve him well. Grammar Schools are assisted funding schools, usually for children older than 11, which have an entrance requirement as opposed to _Comprehensive Schools_ which do not. However the term is somewhat antiquated. Junior Schools are classified as _Primary Schools_ in the UK and Senior Schools as _Secondary Schools_ . In England & Wales there is a category for 17-18 year olds known as _6th Form College_ which is generally optional. These categories may also include numerous other descriptions including but not limited to New Schools, Academies, Colleges and so forth.
Would love to see the un edited version. It seems like the TV station lowered the sound of drums so golden earing could be heard. This is an amazing. Truely an epic moment. If I was Golden Earing I would have been greatful that I could be apart of such a brilliant recreation. What an honor. Thsnks for sharing.
Another misconception, wooden shoes are part of the folklore, not everybody is wearing them, just like the French are not all wearing berets... Wooden shoes were/are usually worn by farmers working on the field. A dying profession, very few people can still make them from a block of wood and it's usually shown on folklore festivals how it was done.
That's pretty cool! Sure, they may not have been perfectly in sinc... but they sure were trying! Bless them for their effort. It's nice to see everybody come together in an event like that. :-)
Amazing beyond description! Thanks so much for posting! Brings back memories when the song first came out - at Cape Hatteras for the ESA surfing championships parked at Jimminy Crickets foosball parlour flipping bottle caps at each other while this song is blasting on our car stereos. Livin' the dream, baby....livin' the dream!
Definitely doesn't sound like our 3-piece band's cover version! Sound is arriving a tenth of a second or more AFTER the beat from the drums further away, well into the next beat. You can definitely hear the wave-like sound rolling around in the mix, that's them. It's never going to be crisp and clear. You can hear the board's compressors cutting in and out, those circuits are pretty much not capable of handling that many complex pulses, either, since they're no longer individual pulses. Still pretty darned amazing, those guys were still kicking some serious butt as of a couple of years ago.
Oh Wow! My fourth child and my love child was born 3 days before this came out in 92. At 18 This was my favorite song and the way I drove. I could still drive that crazy but not much reason to. Walking through the twilight zone these days ;)
I love this yeah Radar Love is a hit from the early seventies but I still like the song and I'm a drummer and I sure wish I was there in the crowd just looks like it was a fun time which they do it in Wisconsin
