I feel like I could help answer your question. He uses metal ribs on all of his forms. There are several reasons for it.. 1. For shaping. 2. To smooth the walls and remove all throwing lines 3. To remove the slip, making the piece lighter, and, yes, have less water 4. To compress the walls. This is at least why I use a rib.

Wow that was absolutely amazing, getting a pot to that size must take a huge amount of skill. Very nice job.

Patience is what I need to learn. I keep telling myself that next time I will remember how slowly you form the shape. I seem to get in a hurry and push it out too fast and lose the shape that I'm aiming for. Thank you again for the time you spend teaching us through your videos!

The mere fact you could center that is a feat within itself! Very nice job.

I am always so impressed and inspired by your work. Thank you for sharing, this particular video has reminded me to be more methodical when throwing big pottery. I'm curious about how many pounds of clay this started at, I'm guessing ten to twelve? Thank you again for sharing, what a magnificent work this is.

Hi, I am wondering how did you get that vase off the wheel without deforming it. Thank you for all those valuably videos. I've watched them almost all.

Thank you for sharing this video! How much time are you allowing the clay to rest/dry between pulls? Do you ever use a torch? Thank you again! Very inspired!

I notice that you often use ribs on the outside of the shapes when you're throwing large. Is the reason behind this partly to use as little water as possible so the clay will set-up? or is it only to smooth the surface?
