Yes, there are the common symptoms of anxiety most of us are familiar with: a pounding heart, feeling short of breath, having tightness in the chest, sweating or having clammy hands, but there are also some really common symptoms many people experience, but don't realize are actually rooted in anxiety. And once you understand what is at the root of your struggles, you have a much better chance of being able to work through things.
In this video I talk about 11 common, but less known symptoms of anxiety. I hope you find it as helpful as many of my students and clients have!

That was a really brave thing to do- hitting the enter key and putting your feelings out there. Kudos to you. Sometimes just writing things down and reading the words back can really show you where you are at. I thought this was an insightful video. Hopefully the other videos in this series have some good advice to help with working through that anxiety. The best advice I read was: 1) remember to breathe, and 2) just keep going.

Chub Chub, In life there are only 2 problems--mind and the body. To feel better reduce negative thoughts. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Do the practice without any expectations when taking a walk, at work, when reading, before sleep etc. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a better life. Reduce negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes--Counsellor.

What’s so strange about anxiety is that you can know your symptoms and you 100% know it’s just from anxiety, but when you have an anxiety attack it just slips away and you feel like you have a medical emergency

Anxiety gives me chest pain and it's scary. I have like mini heart attacks everyday. Thats What it feels like. chest pain randomly waking up, running/ exercising , randomly through out the day. Then my stomach feels tight but I force food down and it feels better. Neck feels tight and itchy sometimes might be cold . I been to the doctors x20 + times ekg blood work.. and the doctors done everything. And I still think my heart is jacked up. Anxiety is messing up my life..
@wardka
@wardka 6 лет назад
This is one of the vicious spirals of anxiety. I get mild chest pains too, sometimes palpitations, numbness and vertigo, all symptoms of heart problems but really caused by anxiety. At 62 I always have to wonder - what if it's really heart problems this time? Which of course increases the anxiety. Around and around we go.

I’ve struggled with this as well. Many of us who struggle with anxiety don’t breath properly which causes chest pain or the feeling like we can’t breath. Focusing on breathing from your lower lungs (your stomach should move, not your chest) will help tremendously. Many times, we breath from our upper chest and when we feel anxious we take shallow breaths. My physiatrist pointed this out to me and working on my breathing has helped significantly . (A better description of this breathing technique can be found here: www.anxieties.com/57/panic-step4#.W2oW-aRlCaN.)

I found that going somewhere quiet and focusing on slow, deep breathing helped calm me down in the moment, and overall the way I reduced the frequency of it was by making a list of as many different things I know I have to do and then actively going about doing those things in my spare time. For me at least, the anxiety seemed to be a result of a build up of a lot of responsibility that I was neglecting in an attempt to give myself as much free time as possible to relax (ironic I know), but of course it just made things worse.

So far i've not encountered anybody that just expects you to calm down however, you can just calm down. You retrain your brain. Easier said than done of course haha, i'm still trying. But I have had certain routines work. Other times i just let it go and ride it. Before this year I'd never had any sort of panic attack. My brother got them and I did not understand what they were. But i'll be damned if I let em ruin my life! Next time you have one coming on. Stick on some bon jovi and fucking sing as loud as you can. Or go for a walk. Or do one of the many different grounding techniques. I tried just sitting still and moaning about it for weeks and that changed nothing. Doing something with teh energy and restlessness worked for me, might work for you.

The most effective and permanent way to get rid of anxiety is meditation the best being the free Vipaasna meditation practiced all around the world or innerengineering isha meditation. Meditation reprogrames the mind. For a start sit on a chair with eyes closed and be still focusing on the breath for 10 minutes early morning and night. Increase slowly to 30 minutes. A lot of thoughts will come but slowly negative thoughts will reduce. Watch Vipaasna videos on Google search. Continue daily.

☹ Anxiety is the worst. I have a video on my channel where I explain why we have certain symptoms. I feel like knowing why we have them makes it easier to deal with. You should check it out. ..... Blood is being pulled away from the outer organs of your body so it can go to more vital organs that would be used to fight or flight. So in turn your extremities will feel numb.

it's all to do with your anxiety, fight or flight mechanism, it's a harmless symptom but very very scary... its your mind turning of its connections /feelings to protect you from your anxiety, it's the same when we have a death in the family, we go numb!.... once you get rid of your anxiety all other symptoms will go...

me me again its taken me months to find just this comment, i was asking friends who suffer from anxiety and i felt as if they were saying “yeah i get that” but not really understanding what i meant and infact they probably didn’t suffer from this symptom, i had a period where i felt like this for 3 months... i thought i was losing my mind, it comes and goes at the moment, i don’t know how to keep it away permanently though, i have noticed something though, if i sit on my phone and look at for long periods i then get the symptom we speak of...... whats that about. I‘m really nervous all the time: in school, at home, hanging out with friends, so all the time. (Expect sleeping) When I have an anxiety attack I stutter, my breath is going faster, my heart beats in 110-140 bpm. I‘m also shaking, my whole body is shaking, I sweat, I overthink things and miss something out (so I look like I had a bad flashback and stare into the air, so I miss something when someone says anything) My anxiety stops me from talking to people I really like (my crush) but it doesn’t give me a chance to talk to it. Anxiety is shitty sometimes...

I suffer from depression, anxiety, and OCD. Most of the symptoms of anxiety resignate with me a lot. I sleep well, I fall asleep easily, but I find myself oversleeping which is common in depression. I get anxious over large messes and get irritable. Perfectionism, social withdrawal, reassurance, and constantly feeling overwhelmed and worried is something that I always have been dealing with for as far as I can remember. Since I was little. I just thought I would share what I have been dealing with. I am seeing a psychiatrist right now and I'm not on any medication. I do find working out is something that makes me feel better in reducing anxiety and depression. That's how I cope.

What's REALLY sneaky is the incredible way, throughout your series of RU-vid videos, something you say, or a point you make, just makes this big lightbulb go on and creates an "ah-ha!" moment of clarity and understanding that helps someone make progress with something big they're struggling with! Jovi, How are you now? In life there are only 2 problems--mind and the body.

My analysis of myself: Social withdrawal: I'm an introvert. I like my alone time and don't feel the need to be constantly around people, and I've never really been a people person. However, lately I feel like I sometimes avoid socializing because I'm not all that good at it. I don't like small talk and I often don't have much to talk about if anything as I consider myself to be kind of dull. Getting overwhelmed: This is very me. If I'm stressed, too tired or not feeling well, I get a bad temper easily and either get annoyed, yell, or cry. I take it out on some people more than others. Problems Sleeping: At times, I don't sleep soundly because my mind constantly races with negative thoughts and may wake up once during the night. Avoidance: It goes hand in hand with my lack of socializing. Situations that put me at the center of attention (something I hate) are the worst. Procrastination: I most often do this when it's a task or an assignment I don't want to do because it's boring or hard but have to and may have to scramble to finish it on time or have just enough time to avoid rushing. On the flip side, I also may avoid preparing for something that's fun because the preparation is stressful, i.e. packing for a vacation or choosing an outfit for an outing. Overpreparation: I don't like to leave anything to chance and dread the consequences of missing a step. I'm also not a spontaneous person and do not like things coming up at the last minute. I also tend to run around like a chicken with its head cut off. Reassurance: Praise actually makes me uncomfortable as it either puts me at the center of attention or I feel I don't deserve it. However, I need to get feedback to make sure I didn't completely screw up or fail at something as I feel I can't fail. It can be anything from something that I cooked to a major term paper that contributes to most of my grade. Even if it's positive feedback, I still feel that I could have done some aspect differently. I blame most of this on Asperger's Syndrome as I feel that I need to prove myself twice as hard as someone who's neurotypical. I'm my own worst critic, I beat myself up for the littlest things, and I'm afraid to fail and ask for help as that causes me to see myself as incompetent. I've also struggled with depression in the past.

Now that you have analysed yourself, do you think you can find a way forward? You've ticked a few things here that i have. procratination and the guilt that comes with it (I literally should be washing up some pots right now instead of typing this haha). I found for procrastination making lists worked but what worked better was instead of making BIG lists with lots of things make a list of three things and just try and do one of them. End result is Ive manged to hald decorate a room i've been putting off for 5 bloody years!. NExt will be to move so more stuff and complete it. But on my list is just "Clear second half of room". When thats done it will be " paint second half of room". On top of that I'm not trying to get it all done in one day. that amouint of pressure for me can be overwhelming with all the other stuff I have to do in a day. so that first half of a room took three days to do BUT its done now and the job is started!. Find ways to deal with your issues and don't be afraid of it failing first time ( i literally can't paint walls and I knew this and I stopped caring and just did it, it looks... ok haha better than I thought it would!).

I find that physical symptoms that mimic feelings of anxiety attacks can trigger panic attacks. I try not to move fast because I do that when I'm having an attack. I had my eyes dilated at the eye DR and it gave me physical symptoms of tunnel vision and I felt dizzy and my hands got cold. I felt like I was having an attack!!! I know there are so many triggers. I can't handle any caffeine at all! I've found other triggers too... I do many of the things you mentioned here too. I sleep too much at times and too little other times! Fear cycling fear is my worst problem. The fear of the fear triggers my attacks and keeps them going!!!

@kudosbudo
@kudosbudo 5 лет назад
What techniques have you got to ground yourself OP? Theres a few simple excercises you can learn. Practice when your not under an attack of course, then try it out. The one that works for me is the colour spotting of items. When i feel one coming on I'll look up and around where I am and name all teh red objects I can see. I'll sit there saying out loud to myself, Red pen, red folder, red led light. I'll do it slowly and concentrate on teh very simple task. I find it calms me a lot. No red objects then I have a backup colour. Might not work for you but its only one of many simple techs you can learn to ride over that panic and forget it in the moment.

Zerus Zephuros your not alone!! I had my first anxiety attack when I was about 24yrs and haven’t had one until after my first back surgery sept 2018 the dr said i was given too many steroids. which made me feel...almost manic, unable to sleep thought everyone including my own kids were trying to kill me. It was like 2 people hijacked my car and put Me in the back seat and proceeded to take Over my life the driver an passenger constantly argue with each other like i don’t exist! I know it’s not real but i can’t stop it!! And at first i didn’t want to tell anyone thinking they would really think Ive lost my mind so instead i found every opportunity to be alone. (I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AN EXTROVERT!) the anxiety attacks and crazy thinking lasted about 3 weeks and then I was fine until month ago when out of no where I freaked out and all I wanted to do is call green oaks facility and have them admit me because this time I was felt like I finally lost my mind! I finally started Counseling again, DBT, CBT therapy, and now we’re going to try EMRD therapy and so far none of them have worked. Just when I think ohhh I’m fine now I feel good...I leave my house all confident and the first person that talks to me or event I go too( I only go watch my son play basketball and take my dogs outside late at night) sets me into a MAJOR ANXIETY ATTACK...but now when they hit I just accept it and try to keep busy and try not to focus on why or what caused the attack. (I’m working hard on this...yes I’m sitting here now in panic mode trying to fix me when I SHOULD BE DOING MY HOMEWORK!!) Anyway long story short I too have to get my BSN NOW in order to work as a nurse! I’ve been a nurse since 2009 and Gods going to pick now to break me down then remold me??

I would just love to thank you so much. I just found this video and I can only hope and pray that you do internet sessions. I was in a really great place. I used to be addicted to opiates and opioid but I have not used them in nearly 8 years. More recently though, I got into alcoholism and for a few years really had a big problem with that. The thing is, those things were always a symptom, and the cause was (undiagnosed) anxiety. I have been a fun loving, love to make everyone laugh guy for my whole life! But as of the past 6 months, my anxiety has been so bad that it has literally been crippling. This is what brought me to your videos that I've watched. I get in a situation where I need to look normal. The problem is, even though I am not intoxicated, haven't drank or anything, I am still having such a hard anxiety attack that I feel like I am going to be assessed as someone who looks impaired. I shake, my head may as well be one of a Bopple Head toy, I say weird things, I sweat, and it is all from just being nervous about nothing. I am in real trouble if I can't get this under control. I'm not some creep. I just turned 33, my wife is the same age, and we have a 9 year old son. I know you're busy with RU-vid....but the councillor I have in my life is an admitted paranoid delusional. Something about your videos makes me think we would get along. Would you be willing to work with me?? And if not, still thank you for letting me see that some people can be really professional and guide people that they don't even know towards a camera l Ker, brighter tomorrow. It is very much appreciated 😬

Julia Kristina.........You did a fantastic job. This was very helpful to me. Most of the counselor's I met got their degree out of a bubble gum machine. They don't pass on one percent of the information you shared. They like to drag the sessions out just to keep that money rolling in and the client leaves with nothing. I gained a lot out of this in just 14.5 minutes. Great video!

I had a date with a guy who slipped in one sentence about him having anxiety, which I didn’t even compute in the moment. He was so adorable to me! He has so many amazing qualities and we share many common values in life. It’s not until after the date and his subsequent reactions I’m realising his anxiety has creeped in and blocked us from taking any of this further... I hope if ur someone with anxiety reading this comment and in a similar situation, pls give urself a chance to let someone who cares about u into ur life. Try to talk to them with as much communication as possible. Specify ur boundaries. Location of a date, duration, “ok topics” to talk about, “not ready yet” topics to talk about. Etc. It’s ok to admit yes ur interested but there’s so many factors that could potentially overwhelm, and allow that person to show u they can be there for u at ur pace, taking ur cues. As long as u don’t give up completely, or u might be throwing away a potentially really wonderful relationship ❤️

Learning a lot from you Julia, it helps me so much of the anxiety I'm experiencing. Now I realized being too perfectionist and doing so many things at the same time are the symptoms of anxiety. Thank you for an inspiring advice. Appreciate it so much.

Thank you so much for such a big eye-opener. For the longest time, I thought my anxiety was just co-morbid with depression. I kept wondering why therapy hasn't gotten me feeling normal. Today, I realised that I have serious anxiety. Looks like I need to seek the right treatment for it.

I could relate to some of the things mentioned things in this video like not being able to start my work or being able to finish the work that I started. Also maybe the sleeping schedule because I go to sleep pretty late and would sometimes wake up kinda early sort of.. I relate to not wanting to be alone because if I had my own home, I wouldn’t want to be living there by myself.

Aren't all these down to low self esteem? Does low self esteem cause anxiety? Which one do you treat or/and concentrate on? Lots of questions lol.

The treatment I use for either one is the same because yes, there is a lot of crossover between the 2 that's for sure!

Hi Julia. I just want you to know that I find your videosso helpful. I’m struggling with extreme anxiety and I watch all of your videos for support. Many of these points are definitely me. I am so nervous to sit down + just do my bills. I recently sold my house + moved into a condo where I don’t have to stress out about the yard, expenses, etc. Where I lived previously, money was very tight. I was so anxious because it was hard to meet my monthly obligations. I have MS so I’m disabled and can’t even work. I was a legal secretary and loved my work. But now that I’m in my new home, things are much easier to manage. However, even though I now have enough money to manage my bills, getting myself to sit at my desk to do them is ridiculous. I know I can do it but my anxiety sets in. I get all ramped up. I feel as though I’m sabotaging myself somehow. I’m anxious also about aging. I’m now 55 and have worried about my age since I was 23. I realize that I’ve wasted years worrying about this! I’m literally scared to death about aging. I’m trying to get myself together - you videos help me so much!! You are so kind to create these extremely helpful videos!
