Have you driven over 1000km in one day? I certainly have!
I drove the Hyundai Kona Electric 64kWh on a DCFC tour across Alberta from Edmonton to Waterton and back again in one day.
I charged and drove and charged and drove for 16 hours straight!
Another video detailing each type of DCFC of Level 3 Chargers found in Alberta will be released later.

Getting my Kona tomorrow. 2022 Preferred (all I could afford). Your videos give me great information on what to expect. I'll be using mine mostly in the mountains of BC so I may be charging more often than prairie cars!

Enjoy your Kona EV! I think it is a very well balanced electric vehicle.

Well done Solomon, I can imagine how tired you must have felt after a long hot day. Here in Québec the FLO/Electric Circuit 50 and 100 KWh chargers are $12.50 an hour and the faster Petrol Canada 150/350kwh chargers $0.27 per minute, a wee difference if you’re covering long distances regularly, but either is still more preferable to gas prices.

Hello Solomon from New York! I have a 2022 Kona electric and love your channel. One request is that you show more of the scenery in Canada. Slow some of the film; please? Thanks I enjoy the nuances of the car as much as the charging. I especially like details of your stops such as available food and attractions or scenery. Thanks!

Agree with Don. In May we visited Jasper, Banff and Cranmore in Alberta. Spectacular scenery.

Nice roadtrip video Soloman. Not a lot of these around for us YEG guys. Planning on taking my Ioniq to Kelowna this weekend. Significantly less range than your Kona - Wish me luck!!

So how much did you pay in total for 1,100 km trip? Just curious!

Do you think the Kona e would be a good choice for someone that isn't technologically savvy? I can't even keep my email box organized. Great video, great graphics.

On a basic level, if you just want an EV that works, I would say the Kona is a good choice. From my own experience, the Kona is pretty reliable and I never had any glitches or software issues with the vehicle. So I can just plug in when the battery is low and drive it when you have charged enough. But if you want the most optimized EV experience, I would say Tesla is the best choice. There are many things that Tesla vehicles does so much better than non-Tesla vehicles. In the winter, I have to monitor battery temperature of the Kona to determine where and when to charge to provide the best charging speed to price ratio. Because EV charges slowly when the battery is too cold. Tesla vehicles pre-heat the battery for you when you navigate to their supercharger to make sure you arrive with a warm battery. Tesla's on board navigation shows you where the charging stations are, availability, and can plan your trip for you around superchargers. For the Kona, I need to juggle a few different apps to plan my trip, find charging stations, check availability, and pay for charging. Tesla superchargers are just plug and play, and you really don't have to do anything on your end except for plugging in. For non-Tesla, a different app is required for each charging network. Most of the time you can activate a charging station with an app, sometimes that doesn't work and you might need to use an NFC card or tag, you might have to call the number on the station, or you can use your credit card on only some of the charging stations. As for the phone app experience for connectivity with your EV, Tesla is the best. Their app is fast with a lot of functions and connects with ease. The Bluelink app for the Kona is quite slow and limited in function. Bluelink had worked fine for me most of the time but there are a lot of Kona Electric users who really dislike the Bluelink app. All in all, Tesla vehicles are probably the best for non-tech savvy people.

Can you also tell us your average speed between the charging points? Besides that, very nice clips of the Kona and your adventures.

From Edmonton to Claresholm, most of the highway is 110km/hr. From Claresholm to Waterton, most of the highway is 100km/hr. I drive between speed limit and 10% above speed limit.

@@READYSTEADYCHARGE Do you use cruise control when going such distances? Also, do you know if regen braking is more or less effective when using cruise control? Appreciate the Kona specific content!
@READYSTEADYCHARGE
@READYSTEADYCHARGE 2 года назад
@@eoinoneill1774 I use cruise control on part of this trip where there isn't a lot of cars in front of me. Otherwise, I always use Level 3 regen. When the vehicle is slowing down on it's own during adaptive cruise control, it uses regen, but definitely not as heavy as Level 3 regen.

What kind of road planner do you use friend?

I usually find the chargers on Plugshare and then plan by calculating myself using a predicted consumption number. I have ABRP, but I need a reference point from my own calculations.

When you are charging and sitting, do you run air conditioning or heat as required to the cabin for comfort?
@READYSTEADYCHARGE
@READYSTEADYCHARGE 3 года назад
Yes, I run the HVAC to keep myself comfortable when charging. Cooling in the summer usually takes 1kW or less. Heating in the winter is around 2kW. If you are charging at 50kW or above it's not that significant. I do tend to turn HVAC off when shooting video to reduce background noise.
