A teenage girl hanging out at the mall with friends during summer break isn’t “wrong place, wrong time.” We just live in a society where we have to risk our lives to go to school, hang out at the mall with friends, go watch a movie, go to the store, go to church!! Sad times
His mom did the right thing dragging him to cops to confess. Our kids can't go to the food court at the freaking mall? Unbelievable. R.I.P. Sweetheart😢

What the hell is this “wrong place wrong time” BS? The victim is a member of the public who is at a public facility where people go to eat and shop. Surely you can do better reporting than this.
Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels, said something similar years ago to what you wrote during an interview. It was something along the lines of there should never be a 'wrong place/wrong time' for law abiding people. People should never have to fear being in a place. I personally believe that if there are numerous places we have to fear being at any time of day, then the 2nd Amendment needs to remain a right for all law abiding citizens. Law abiding to include being legally carrying a firearm, and if not, there should be harsh penalties and harsh penalty enhancements (if other crimes are committed) for not legally carrying a firearm, such as this 16 year old if he is charged, tried, and convicted.
My daughter, 17 at the time, & I were in a similar situation while shopping for her Senior Prom dress. She was leaving right after graduation for Army Basic Training. She is less than a yr now, from full military retirement. 2 gangs decided to shoot it out in the food court, directly across from the store we were shopping at. It was the store clerk's first day, & she immediately directed everyone to the back room as bullets were hitting the glass around the huge open front door, & in thru the racks of clothes. We crawled along the floor from the front to the back, & helped other customers do the same. Some were just frozen in fear, & the 2 other store clerks followed the new girls directions, & we all got into the back room. We could hear the voices of the 2 gangs screaming at each other, then more shots fired. Some of them were actually in the store. We kept everyone quiet, & soon it got quiet outside, but for 1 male voice screaming "I'm shot! I'm shot!" He was 1 of the gang nembers. We finally got a knock on the door saying It's the police. Open up! We made him prove it!!!!! They took all of our statements, & my daughter & I gave descriptions, as we were right at the front of the store, feet from the food court, when it started. We originally thought someone dropped a tray of food, so looked to see who did. We were pretty shook, didn't get a prom dress, but were grateful the only person shot was 1 of the gang. It did turn out a young teen turned up later at a hospital who had also been shot. Both survived. The mall did everything they could to minimize the situation, although yheir security is a joke! Within days, I wrote the the Store Manager, the Regional Manager, & the Corporate Office to commend a young lady, on her 1st day of work, with great instincts & leadership, who saved lives that day! We're all so quick to write bad reviews & condemn, but I thought she needed to be recognized! Later my daughter & I were fliwn to NYC, where the young lady received a Hero Award from the Corporate Office, & a new job offer there! ❤❤❤ PS, I don't go to Malls anymore, & rarely to any crowded event, but last year went to the KC Chiefs Super Bowl Parade. We had a shooting there, multiple victims, many of them children, & 1 fatality. I doubt I will EVER go out into a crowd again!
@@ahmataevo I know that's been the case with other employers, but as I stated, this company celebrated her at their National Conference in NYC, & offered her a Corporate job.
I understand you have made a personal choice based on dreadful experiences. I only offer this, if we abandon our freedom of movement, then the thugs will truly own the streets and even police officers will be at greater risk. Nothing is gained, or won by living in fear. Additionally, I will say you personally have paid a dues that many people will not understand. You should not have any guilt for your current choices.

Fatherless society!!! The mother should know where’s her thug kid is. What is a 16 year old doing with a gun. STOP HAVING CHILDREN IF YOU CANNOT SUPPORT THEM PROPERLY!!! NO MERCY IN THE KILLER! Or the family that let him run wild!!!
That's obvious to you and I so, it should've been obvious to the people working in the mall BEFORE all of the shooting went down. They stereotype so much they should've called the police 🚔. HOWEVER, the cops will act like they're so innocent because there was no crime committed. So, the workers are in a lose -lose situation. 🤷🏾♂️
@@andrebrown4669- So now the mall workers are under fire for not calling the police when two groups appear to be related to gangs? @joytoyouandme4593 Your ABSOLUTELY 💯 % CORRECT. I did mention in my comment that the mall workers are in a lose-lose situation with calling for help. Did you see that? In NO WAY am I justifying this. That said! ITS NOT ALWAYS THE PARENT FAILURE IN RAISING THEIR KIDS... Kids sadly may have anger issues. Parents who, God forbid, are working let their age appropriate kids go out hang with friends. Some which get in the wrong crowd. Ya think they gonna be up front a out being involved with those bad groups? Parents blame themselves enough. To end this HOS MOM EVEN BROUGHT HER SON IN TO TURN HIM IN. You can't mention that any more since it's considered racist, due to democrats using "equity" as a measure instead of equality as the standard. I carry all the time, I dont go to malls or stores if I can avoid it.. I also never dropped my kids off at a mall .. kids at a mall.. kids are not adults.
THAT is not the answer. When average citizens think they have to have kids in their site 24/7, something must change. Imagine if all kids at the mall were carrying guns and one of them got pissed off at another. We are waiting for all out war if this is expected. It's disgusting and needs to be stopped, by parents! @@julesmisty Malls are dying anyway, but you are still incorrect. Parents are not going to check their kids for weapons. Parents haven't been responsible for a while now, and so it's only natural that the Government will need to step in here.
As a black man I can't argue that fact. I can't even go to ANY public place without being treated like I'm a number one suspected. I've worked LEGAL jobs ALL my life and I NEVER stole anything. @@RoughNeckDeltaeasy answer as to why they use guns instead of knives. They’re to afraid to get close contact so they use guns in separation. The other is video games, movies, hip hop, etc don’t glorify violence with knives. It’s guns instead. Lastly, the juvenile judiciary system shares a big chunk of the blame. “Deferred prosecution” program is a breeding ground for criminality. It’s a program that does not hold youth accountable. When I went to school, other teens would roll up with gun racks in the back of their pick-up trucks. All that time... gun violence and school shootings were unheard of. Please, please everyone hear me. I have also experienced resentment about the news and the demographics that we see on the news. Not long before my mother passed away she told me this: the media is trying to start a race war. She was absolutely right. A few personal examples: first and foremost, my mother's doctor was a black Nigerian and he was the kindest, most decent person I have ever met. I seriously would have probably stepped in front of a bullet for him. Also, a few years ago I ran out of gas in a somewhat rural area. Dozens, maybe hundreds of drivers passed me while I was walking with my gas can in my hand and the only person that stopped to give me a ride was a young, kind black woman. Again: I'm a white female that grew up in the deep South in the early 80's, extremely poor. Getting on the school bus was a horrible nightmare bc no one would let me sit down. It was ALWAYS one of the few black kids that would let me sit next to them. I'm frustrated and angry too, but if you look back through the last few decades, the MEDIA has absolutely feasted on this stuff, pushed it, encouraged it, and 100% lit these fires.
