Yep, whipped again by the Liar's trap! Getting whipped more often lately - you guys making locks have REALLY upped your game, compared to the locks we were seeing just a year or so ago. Your lock making skills are improving almost daily. These trap locks are really, really hard to beat unless you know the bitting beforehand. This one had 4 traps, and I must have fallen into ALL of them at some point during the picking. With trap locks, LUCK plays just as big a part as skill, as you stumble along trying to find the right "combination".

@ Bosnianbill i am glad to see my lock finally make it up here :) and i am sorry if you got frustrated with it. That was not my intention. i have a long way to go in modifying locks to operate cleaner. In the future i hope to send you some locks with different modifications. I have learned alot about locks thanks to you and your channel. Keep up the good work and i look forward to seeing more.

Yeah, picking of of them open is more a function of luck than skill. With 4 trap pins & 3 positions on each, the number of combinations is 64. When you factor in the additional two pins with 2 positions each, the number of possible combinations is way up there. You'd eventually get it, but it would take more than 30 minutes...

@@bosnianbill I kind of think it's time to not allow trap / false trap pin locks anymore for challenges. You have been whipped by every single one that you tried to pick, and they are trivial for lockmakers to make. The locks are evolving a resistance to picking just like bacteria evolve resistance to antibiotics. The new "false trap" feature makes for a good lock but an impossible challenge.
@bosnianbill
@bosnianbill 5 лет назад
@@thorlancaster5641 I'm starting to agree with you, but for a different reason: Everyone is getting tired of seeing the same old thing, over and over. The first time we saw this type of trap it was cool and innovative. After that, it became a copycat design as some guys saw an easy way to get a paclock. Maybe it is time I started filtering out these type of locks... Opinions?
@NetAndyCz
@NetAndyCz 5 лет назад
@@bosnianbill I agree, the innovative lock designs should be about discovering new ways how to make locks safe. And if you are unable to get around undercut traps, then until you manage to find your way around them there is no challenge in making locks with such design. It is like sending levered lock to someone who does not have the tools/knowledge to pick them. It would be more interesting to see other ways how to secure locks against lock pickers.

Personally? I think you should ALWAYS pick clockwise. Amti clockwise nullifies the pick (IMHO) I prefer to pick a lock as if theyre set within a door foe example. You cant open a door by picking a lock anti clockwise unless its a padlock onother similaur. Certaibly no euro lock anyway. Just wanted to throw that thought t you Bill.

Some day I'll get around to making a challenge lock. Thin-waisted spools and undercuts/cross cuts. 4 pins done right, and I really question if such a lock would be physically possible to pick. Would love to have the time to so it right and have both you and LPL try them. Also another stupid simple idea floating around that I shan't share. Ah, some day.
@MichaelBerthelsen
@MichaelBerthelsen 5 лет назад
Hey Bill, is it possible to counter-clockwise, for a deep false set, then use one of your spinners to flip it over, and do the rest clock-wise? Seems like some parts of the lock were easier counter-clockwise, but you ended up with 2-3 pins just alternating dropping down at the end, there. Might have worked better with those last pins clockwise?

Hey Bill I have a question for you, I'm an amateur picker, I've been practicing and learning with you as my main guide/ source of information, I want to learn more about key types, thinking about buying some blanks and trying to make replacement keys. For example does a yale lock us a schlage key? I don't know. Can you make a video about this or possibly suggest a book on the subject? Thanks for any help or direction.

@Wolfhound.
@Wolfhound. 5 лет назад
i thought you stopped accepting those kind of locks . its not a challenge lock its literally unpickable
@rileyfenley522
@rileyfenley522 5 лет назад
Wolfhound this lock is definitely pickable, and if you fall into a trap you can get out of it by resetting. Knowing how the lock is designed, I am willing to bet Bill would get in on the first try. Overset the key pins and rake them down would be my first attack knowing the design now. To qualify as a valid challenge lock for Bill the lock must open with the key and you have to be able to get out of traps. The problem when it came up was keys being cut so deep they went into the bow of the key so it was impossible to get to the pin without oversetting the previous pin. This design was determined to be ok but discouraged because its not original, anyone could do it and it will stifle innovation.
@thorlancaster5641
@thorlancaster5641 5 лет назад
@@rileyfenley522 When trap pins set, the first click that you feel is the trap pin setting. You would have to intentionally overset the pin to get it to set at the non-trap shear line, and in the process you would probably some other trap pins (which would still feel set). Bill would stand a better chance against a n-disc Abloy than an n-pin trap lock.
@RealUnimportant
@RealUnimportant 5 лет назад
I believe the difference between this lock and the one that made Bill suggest the "no trap locks" was the fact that this lock was infinitely resettable, whereas the annoying lock was designed such that getting caught in a trap prevented continuation of the challenge.

I’m really not sure what I think of challenge locks these days... I mean, realistically who would be walking up to that lock and open it in 30 minutes. You’d have to get lottery lucky. Most other channels don’t even show a challenge lock until they’ve picked it a few times. Maybe whipped is an unfair title...
