Hey Guys. I have to make a big Bead on the floor of my Buick. It is 1/2" high and wide and I don't know how to make it without having it twist on my while making it.
I like Matt's idea but would use 1/2 inch emt (thin wall electrical conduit. Cut that a bit less than half way full length and then pinch it to suit in a vice. By the way, this is Bill, Rhonda's husband and I have done something similar before. Good luck... Bill
Looks like you'll get it worked out I'm sure, if your replacing the floor as well, you would want to bring it together, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Have seen those beads done before but they were likely custom machined wheels for the bead roller. I like the idea(s) below of making the bead as a separate piece and welding the flat pieces on either side to the sides of the rolled pieces to it. A 3-piece solution. Look forward to seeing how it works out. Be safe and stay well.
Break it,and weld 3/8” brake tubing to top. Two pieces would be my other choice. Making a pattern and hammer forming would be sonething else to consider
I'd rotor the hardwood and find some solid rod and clamp down the ends and tap the rod with the metal between the rod and hardwood... I know it's a slow process unless you want to have a couple new does made up for the bead roller . .
Might could be done with a rod and sheet metal brake. Otherwise, making it in two pieces might be best. Either brake the edges and roll the edges and mate together, or two pieces and appropriate rod welded together. It is “doable” Always is. Good luck buddy!
Hey Killer. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. I received lots of good ideas like yours. I will check them all out and come up with a plan. I want to go to Napa and see about 1/2" tubing and spot-weld it to the floor. It's just an idea I thought of last night.
I would get some 1" diameter steel tubing and cut it in half lengthwise. Tack weld your flat pieces on either side and then fit it in place. Groom as necessary and then weld it in.
That's going to be a tough one Andy, I don't think the metal will stretch enough to make that using an air chisel. I will have to sleep on this one for an idea.🤔
Hey Glen. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. Yeah, this is a thinker for sure. I have some ideas, but none 100% thought out. Keep thinking. I'll keep you posted.
Hey Glen. Good morning to you. I need 2 pieces about 32" and 2 at 24" I might go to Napa and see about a brake line or some other type of tubing or 1/2 " rod.
That's a tough one. Farm boy thoughts would be something like forming it around a chunk of rebar? Almost like having a bar stuck in between the jaw and material of a metal brake? I'd be curious myself how a real body man would do it. And with what tool.
Hey Dog don’t know if this would work but what about tacking a piece of rod on to your piece of metal and form the metal around the rod, oh yeah I commented on some of your previous videos, take care buddy😀😀
Ok I've Taken A Minute To Think About How I Would Go About Making This Panel!!! First Get Yourself A Piece Of 1/4 Flat Bar Around 3 OR 4 Inches Wide!!! Second Get A Piece Of 18 Gauge Steel As Wide As Your 1/4 Inch Is And Add An Extra Inch To It!!! Third Is To Tack Weld The 18 Gauge To The 1/4 Flat Bar With The Extra Inch Hanging Out Over The Edge!!! Forth Clamp The Flat Bar With The 18 Gauge On The Bottom So It's Clamped In Place And Can't Move!!! Fifth Is To Hammer The Extra In Back Over The Flat Bar Giving You The Channel You Need!!! Sixth Is To Trim Your Newly Formed Channel Down To The Hight Needed!!! Seventh Is To Weld The Channel To A Flat Piece Of 18 Gauge Giving You The Completed Panel You Are Looking For!!! If You Need A Visual On What I'm Talking About I'll Make A Video On The Process!!! Let Me Know!!! Keep Rocking It Out Brother!!!
Hey Pat. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. I knew you would chew on this one. I read your suggestion a couple of times and I think I know what you are saying. I will try it out tomorrow. I will make another video on what I did and what I ended up with. Thanks, Brother.
I think you would be way further ahead to make that out of two pieces, overlapped at the top and tacked every inch. Your just going to get frustrated trying to form it into a groove, way to much stretch. The original piece wasn’t formed by stretching, it was folded.
Hey Morgan. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. The original piece was made with a 20-tone press Ha-Ha. Your way makes sense. I was thinking of something along that line.
Hey Joe. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. Yeah. That might be the best way. Now to find some 1/2" tubing. Thanks, Joe. It doesn't have to be original, just has to work.👍👍🍻🍻
