We all know it will be harder to find these old pot metal emblems, grilles, headlight buckets, and more as the prices go up and the quality goes down. They don’t make aftermarket pot metal parts for most makes and models of classic cars. You will have to repair the parts you are able to find. Luckily the Super Alloy 1 makes easy work of these old gems. Watch the video in the upper right corner to see how simple it is to restore “so-called” impossible to repair treasures. Clean the pot metal before soldering. Pot Metal can start to oxidize within hours of cleaning. It is possible to solder next to chrome plating without blistering the plating. The Super Alloy 1 will take powder coating. The solder will work on missing sections and can be used to build up. Back off with the flame to layer the solder upon itself. Flux the base pass and the last pass when building up-no need to flux between layers of the build-up. If the flux turns black, stop heating and clean the burnt flux off with warm water and a wire brush.
Clean the flux off of the rod before placing it back into the PVC tube.
