Thanks for another great review Marco! I was introduced to Dan Fournie’s game system by the first game in his 1944 series "1944 Battle of the Bulge" and liked it immediately. The opportunity to arrange movement and attack phases freely allows completely new tactical decisions without adding too much complexity. So I preordered this game once it has been announced. As Marco pointed out the missing turn track is a bummer, but I use a self-printed one instead. Otherwise the production quality is very high. When playing it for the first time I was skeptical if the allied side would be fun to play without any dedicated tank units. But actually this works quite well. Marco didn’t talk too much about the reinforcement system, which is especially interesting for the German player since they have to make tough decisions here. And the (static) Volkssturm units are also an interesting option for the German player. Once the Allies reach the Rhine the Germans can launch a counteroffensive with additional resources which makes the final rounds quite tense. If you are looking for a high level simulation with a flexible action system I would highly recommend this game!
Great review as always! Great components and appreciate the low complexity of the game, looks quite interesting. I worry about replayability/ variability, though?
Unfortunately, the total lack of roads or train tracks on the map make this 1944 by Worthington a real no-go for me. I am very happy playing a copy of Liberty Roads by Hexasim at the moment. With a few home grown rules added in. And a scanned and 2x size map with a few road modifications.
