Hello and good day,
One of my favourite Straights the Kikuboshi FEON 6800 Swedish steel Japanese Straight Razor, made from a high carbon small grain steel it's just a top tier super razor to me and is a pure joy to hold and use.
Pitted against Gillette Fatboy, first time shave for me and and it's a nice shaving tool, had lots of slims and there brothers and sisters but never a Fatboy and its a great razor. Those Schick blades are mega sharp, first time I've had to dial a Gillette adjustable down..

Well, there's something I didn't know when it comes to Cut-throat razor shaving: you went downwards firstly, then lathered your face again and took it upwards. Is this standard practice, or a personal choice in technique?

Yeah & no It's more choice I guess but a lot of people do this routine. You can map your facial hair and go one pass with and one pass against at least that's what I kinda do. From my chin and start of my checks my hair starts heading for my ears a bit so I go across by checks from lower check near the ear to my moustache area, chin nearly all down , sideburns the same. Necks a bit complicated up down sideways, lol.. I do get a closer shave but one pass is enough really I guess and it's more habit or is that a ritual now...
