I always love these episodes. A good safe place to go when you are feeling like the world is getting you down and RU-vid has so much junk content. I love to spend time watching these videos, the cars are always great and you learn something from this show. It’s amazing. Keep them up Jay!

A good friend of my Dad's had a Hertz Shelby back in the early 70's. Over the years he also had two 428 cobra jet Mustangs, a couple of Cyclones, a Boss 302, a '69 Mustang with 47 miles on it and who knows what else. I remember asking my Dad why we didn't have anything like that (he drag raced a Comet and a Falcon among other cars back then) he said "Notice he doesn't have any kids". Ohhh. Yeah, I got the hint LOL.

Beyond the really cool cars, what makes this work and so enjoyable to watch is Jay's (and his guests most often) passion and love for the subject. It never feels like a show, but instead listening to guys talk about the things they love. Bravo!

All I can say is that I got an undisclosed killer deal on a rental of one of these last week and it seriously ended up being a bucket list experience. Certainly some cheesy bits here and there, but the exhaust mods are perfect, the performance nearly put me in jail and the looks and appreciation were endless. And this is coming from a Lincoln gal! Brilliant!

I rented one of these on June 22, 1966. I had fun street racing that night, and when I pulled into my parents driveway in San Diego, the brakes failed. No accidents or damage, and Hertz came out the next day to tow it away. That next day was my first day in Marine Corps boot camp (San Diego), so I wasn’t there to watch it leave the driveway, but folks said that Hertz waived the daily rate of $17 due to the brake failure. When I returned home from Vietnam in April of 1968, I really wanted to buy a Highland green 1968 Mustang with a 390 and 4 spd, but the cost was too much...about $3400. I ended up buying a new metallic dark green 68 Roadrunner, with 383 and 4 spd, for $2900 from Tower Motors in San Diego. Had a lot of good fun with the Roadrunner, and no brake failures (the car didn’t have front disc brakes like the Mustang, so no caliper to overheat). What Jay, or his guest, with the Mustang didn’t mention, is that the HI-PO Mustangs were “K” code cars, a K was in the vin. No K, no factory hi-po. Still love those GT 350’s and GT 350H cars.

When it comes to the Shelbys... I have to say I love the Old technology rather than the New . Only because I was 6 years old when it came out.. My Aunt had a 66" Mustang 2+2 it was Springtime Yellow with a Black interior.. 6 cylinder engine automatic..with dealer installed Ac.. It just was one of those cars that just stayed with You in Your heart.. Thanks to You Jay for having those Gentlemen on Your show and the education.. Ty for keeping the Old rides alive...🇺🇸👍

Ever since I was 16 i have always liked driving anything from the early 80's and down. Now My daily drivers are a 1969 f100 and a 1976 gran torino, and I'm now 20. I don't know how much of my generation is out there that really enjoys these old cars, but I am one of them.

My first car in 1977 was a 66' mustang coup, no power anything, 200 straight 6 One barrel with C4 . First mod was front disc brake conversion. When a buddy of mine had his 68 302 t-boned by a drunk, I traded him a 69 galaxy 500 for the motor that had less than 1000 miles on its rebuild, I took out the 200 six with a fresh C4 and directly swapped the 302 into my 66. Everything fit. The exhaust lined up perfect, the motor mounts were exact fit, tranny mounted perfect along with the driveshaft, fuel line, starter wiring, throttle linkage, all gauges wiring etc. When the head pipe bolted up to the exhaust manifold all mounts onterchanged just blew me away. First thing I did upon R&R was put 14x7 mags with 60 series radials on the rear, I floored it and it launched forward lifting the front end with the tires hooking up Too Well... It tore loose the left motormount in half! Lol. Gobs of torque. This was in the fall of 79. The 1st gen mustangs were awesome to own and learn the mechanics on. I miss that car.

Does this bring back memories... unfortunately I was never old enough to get to drive it, but my brother had a '66 GT350H back in the mid-80's. This one had a 302 replacement engine with a freakin' Holley 650 double-pumper on it for some reason, and also along the way someone had installed rear air-shocks, so he could jack up the back end for a meatier look when he wanted to cruise the drag (and put up with the terrible ride). Aftermarket "Mag" wheels (not original style) with 215R60/14s on the front and 245R65/15s on the rear, Goodyear Eagle GTs riding the rims. *sigh* - thanks for the great video, Jay & crew!!!

I picked one up in 1980 for $6k from the original owner who garaged it. It was (and is) in beautiful original condition. They came with 14" wheels. Mine had the rare 4 speed. I put the 15" factory mags on and a Tremec in it, easy to put back to stock, but makes it a much better street car. What a fun car to drive. Light and nimble and what a sound that old 289 makes.

One of the greatest conversions Carroll Shelby did to the early Falcons and Mustangs was to lower the upper A arms and add his handling bars. I copied his suspension conversion the last time I had my motor out of my 65 Falcon, Futura, convertible. It used to corner terribly. After the conversion the car no longer leans or looses traction while cornering. It just follows in the direction I steer it. Thanks Carroll.

There as a guy from over here brought a white non-fastback mustang V8 back from the States, to Belfast. I always thought they were a very compact car, so was surprised to learn how big they actually are. Possibly wider than a jaguar XJ6 coupe. He had to sell it, because the cost for petrol over here, was way too much.

even Jay admitted that the Hertz car was there just so he could test drive the original 66 hertz... He was joking... but was he? The whole video was an awesome overview of a classic mustang. I think anyone even cared too much about the new Hertz

Hertz in JFK airport gave me a metallic gold Mustang in 1993, I think it was the smaller 3.8 liter V6. Every time I got behind the wheel it put a smile on my face. As a non American, I'm used to driving front wheel drive European cars, it sure was a memorable experience as a daily drive ! To have the opportunity to experience an American classic. Never got to thank the Hertz guy that offered the car.

On two occasions in 2008, I rented a 2007 Shelby Hertz Mustang convertible while in Las Vegas - an awesome car but it was smoother, quieter, and not quite as neck-snapping as I expected. Fun car to drive though - and it actually averaged 25 mpg.

Hey Jay i am a little confused,.. The Hertz guy said they rent the GT350 for $399.00 per day unlimited mileage,... But then he said it had 435 horsepower and 400 foot pounds of torque,.. thats just the standard Mustang GT motor.... and when he raised the hood it in fact just had the standard motor,... so do they rent a GT350 or no? Jay i called Hertz and they dont rent a GT350,... its just a Mustang GT with some extra trim,... 399.00 per day NO Thanks,...

Why aren't Hertz renting GT350s if that's what the original was? Seems cheap of them to me.

Awesome review of the GT350H. Been a fan for a long time and enjoy the videos. But one review and drive I'd like to see them do is the 33' Ford Roadster and the 46' Ford Convertible belonging to Tim Allen. Him and Jay go way back so this needs to happen. Those were two brilliant Hot Rods.

Thanks Jay, and thanks to Mr. Swana. Really great classic, tuned perfect too. No noticeable valve noise from the solid lifter cam.

They didn't have an ACTUAL car guy at hertz? Surely there is some kid that works one of the desks that would have been more knowledgable. This corporate stiff was cringeworthy. "You know Jay... tag line tag line tag line." "That's right Jay, we are car enthusiasts here at HERTZ." Gag.

Pretty much a $2000 option at the dealer, but because they did it, the car is worth astronomically more. The Shelby name used to mean something, but now it is just a title that you pay for. Much like Gibson and Fender.

Yeah, the main problem with the mustang GT is the frumpy suspension.

@9:15 , the power slide around the corner is what Shelby Mustangs were about. It rolls a little, then stabilizes quickly.
