We are installing the head and some other small parts. Do you notice we skipped the cam timing? Well, it turned out that I didn't do it right and I didn't realize until later, so I decided not to show it as I don't want anyone to get confused. I corrected it later so you're gonna see that in a later episode.

Another good one Elin. This is text book for anyone rebuilding a TR6 engine, and will be watched over and over in the coming years. 🙂

Thanks Elin. I appreciate the time and detail you put into explaining the process and uploading these videos. I look forward to the one on timing.

Thanks for doing these videos Elin! IIRC the longer head studs should go at the front of the block opposite the alternator to facilitate mounting of the a/c compressor. I’m prepared to be corrected though. Thanks again and let’s not forget “time stand still” from fellow Toronto celebs! C

my tr is a 1975 with only 45,000 miles on it undersealed by Ziebart from new, bodily immaculate, hard and soft top and tonneau cover, just got to get mechanical stuff sorted Bill

So you stayed with a mechanical fuel pump rather than going electric. Thanks for letting us know how the distributor / oil pump assembly works. I'll keep my eye out for the same basic system on other cars.

Elin, just as an aside, I purchased new ARP head studs, and they are all the same length … go figure … at least I don’t have to decide which holes the long ones go into.

Chef Tush's brain wandered into the room and now I have a headache. Must have been bad timing.

Hey Elin, a great video and my geeky self loves engine assembly so Thank you for the lesson. A question, I saw you threaded the head studs into the block using only hand tightness, is that common for these engines, I thought there might be a torque spec on that... again just a comment, not a criticism, learning so much from your videos. Thank you

The torque is applied to the nuts after the head is installed. The tension is spread evenly across the top and the bottom threads, no matter if the bottom was finger tight before that. I just made sure that the whole threaded part is in the block, nut just 2-3 threads. That would be a disaster :)

Elin, early on in the video you put the head studs in finger tight, but didn’t follow up on that. Secondly and perhaps I missed it but did you explain how you resolved your fundamental error when you first set your timing wheel? Best regards to you buddy 🤔

I snugged the studs and that's it. Never tightened them more than that. I made sure however that the entire threaded part of the stud was in the block (I chased the threads in a previous video). Then when I tightened and torqued the nuts after the head was on the bottom threads were put under the same tension as the top ones. It is an automatic process. At this stage of the assembling I still wasn't aware that the timing was wrong :) I will find that out in future episodes and we will fix it together. Now that I am editing the video this car is long gone and the error is fixed already, so I didn't want to put the wrong process in as someone might not watch till the end and never find out what I did was wrong and maybe do the same mistake.

Hey Elin , Im in collingwood and have a tr6 that I brought over from england 40 yrs ago when I emigrated here its a fuel injected engine which I had on the road for one day before troubles started, I had the engine running 10 yrs ago for the last time ,, theres no one who knows how to set it up with the metering unit and lucas fuel pump ect ect and Im going to get started on trying to get it working again myself, I have a little knowledge but a lot of patience, Im semi retired and have more time to spare ..Ive watched your videos and am impressed with the information, I have to ask where you buy your parts as Im sure Ill be needing a supplier thank you very much Ill keep watching regards Bill

Hi Bill! That is a great decision. Bringing another Rusty Beauty on the road. Yeah, the fuel injected engines weren’t very popular on this side of the pond and not many people can work on them, including myself. I know nothing about the PI. But there are so many videos on youtube, I am sure you can find help there. I buy parts mainly from Moss motors in the USA, but there are also some other suppliers like The Roadster Factory in US and Rimmers Bros i. UK. We have some local suppliers too like Peninsula I think in Burlington and British Auto Sport near Hamilton. The owner of the last one is Fred 905 627 9995 and he is a Moss Motors distributor. He is very knowledgeable and a great help to the triumph community. I hope that helps
