People are forgetting that Mayweather Sr was just a part time boxer, this guy was a drug addict, was in and out of jail most of his life and look at his skills against a high ranked boxer like SRL. Floyd Jr is literally what his father could have become if he was focus and determined.
This may be the best fight I have ever seen. Leanoards IQ was insane, switching gears testing from endless angles, the inside fighting was so technical. Maywheather was fantastic, Great match!
I really liked that Sugar Ray backed off and let Floyd Mayweather Sr. get ready for the round. Shows real class and pure sportsmanship in the sport of boxing that we don’t see anymore these days.

I watched this fight when It came out and I was 10 years old and watched it again today at 55 years old and I still enjoyed it. Sugar Ray is simply one of the best ever and I had no idea Mayweather Sr had such great skills. He's a beast. I enjoyed watching this more then Mayweather Jr Fights.
Sugar Ray Leonard only had 13 fights in. Can you imagine if Floyd fought the Leonard who fought Tommy Hearns in the first fight? His skills were elite at that point. This is what makes Sugar Ray deadly.....

@@kyleallen6395 sr has faster hand speed than jr but jr is more quicker, agile and has better reflexes. Both have the same styles but sr is definitely the more agressive one.
Damn, Mayweather got the heart of a mexican fighter, but Sugar Ray just on another level. Fight should've been stopped earlier, clearly outclassed and sustaining massive damage to the head.

Ray punched with bad intentions. His body punches were underrated. When Leonard starts connecting it’s like there’s a string attached to the other guy’s face. Mayweather’s corner yelling at the ref for stopping the fight. Mayweather was going down shortly and a corner should protect his fighter.

The guy is Eastern European and his face was a bloody mess within three rounds. He said Leonard punched much harder than he’d ever been punched in his life. Leonard was only 19 at the time and had that power. Benitez was an awesome fighter and Ray knocked him silly and won his first title.

Duran won the first fight then Leonard outplayed him in the second and out boxed him in the third. Hagler was the only guy with a controversial result but in the end it was a split decision victory. James Toney, Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson, Roberto Duran just to name some, the era they fought in, too many great fighters to mention here!!!! Even with Floyd Jr, he just needs to be greatful that talent of the 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s, it just is not now and has not been since then early 2000’s!!!! It’s not Floyd’s fault and i get that!!!! But like Roberto Duran said when asked about Floyd if he fought in his era: “He would be just another fighter.” Meaning, he’d be slightly above average!!!! Anthony Mitchell sugar at his best would have beat money at his best.sugar would have figured money out an d.c. money would have lost it by being frustrated that his defense was not working. Sugar was too smart that is what separates him from all the rest.
Sugar Ray Leonard is the best welterweight/ middleweight, I've ever seen in my life. Great stamina, and lightning fast hands, with good knockout power. The "only" guy I could see giving him a fight, would be Floyd Mayweather Junior -- now that would be a real war, and a hell of a great fight. Tommy Hearns was Leornard's toughest opponent. I think Mayweather Junior was 50 -0, but he did not face hard hitting guys like Hearns and Hagler -- so I think Leonard would have taken him, as Sugar Ray had knockout power in both hands, and lightning speed.
I totally agree my friend. Ray lived next to me for awhile in Md. His brother Roger would whip your ass to. But both very nice guys and wonderful neighbors. I'm old school and Sugar was not sweet once he laced up. Floyd could never match his speed energy or power. And power in both hands and he punched from so many different angles. But he could have never eaten Sugar's punches and survived. I call for a Leonard knock every time. Both men at their fittest. I'm betting the mortgage car note side chics and all.

Back when multiple devisions had great fighters, and nobody had a glass chin. Today 2019 you can count those kinda fighters on one hand. You can see here Floyd had hurt his right wrist, but still i think Sugar woulda won, he was just to good.

Well, the big difference in Sr and Jr style is Sr fought more like a typical old Philadelphian amatuer, using the Philly Shell ala George Benton. Jr. is more like a combination of a George Benton and Ismael Laguna. I mean, in a technical stand point, his style is a combination of a Philadelphia boxers and Panamian boxers.
Good God, those punches. I'm inexperienced at boxing, but I've been hit a couple-few times in sparring rounds, and I can tell, if any of those punches here were to hit me, I don't think I'd wake up for days!
I know sounds a bit naive cuz he was fighting against one of the greatest boxer ever but Mayweather Sr took more hits in this fight than his son in his entire career...he deserve a big plause anyway all of this shots and he finished on his legs...Not a remarkable champion but a warrior for sure..👏
He takes a lot of punches where as Floyd Jr will block well and slip and move. Floyd Jr is smart and safe while being equipped with all offensive abilities needed to be a champ
If sr had the same skill as jr to clinch and escape from the rope the fight could have been much different, i can see how those are vital for the mayweather family's philly shell style thanks to this fight

No idea how part time became an excuse. He fought regularly but like Jr isn’t much of a puncher. Good chin though. If this fight happened today it would’ve been stopped in 3rd rd. SRL absolutely beat the breaks off of Sr. I did see Jr style in last couple rounds, clinching and holding, guess Sr taught him to run and avoid fighting at all costs if wanted to win. That was a beating.

After looking at this fight, If mayweather would stop doing that shoulder roll defense and threw more left , right combinations. This fight would have gone differently
