@@richardtaylor1027Lmfao. Get out of here. Emmitt is not even top 5. He played 15 seasons under possibly THEE greatest offensive line of all-time. Barry Sanders played behind the KNOWN worst line in the entire 1990’s decade. And STILL averaged 5 yards a carry his entire career. Emmitt Smith never ran for no 2,000 yards now did he…. No. He didn’t. AND Sanders did it off the least amount of carries than ANY other 2,000 yard rusher. He’s got the all-time record for most consecutive 100 yard games with 14 AND most 100 yard games in a season, with 14. The year he ran for 2,000 in 97. He won the offensive player of the year twice. And won the MVP that year in 97. He holds the record for most 1,500 yard seasons with 5, and 4 straight. And barely missed his 6th by 9 yards. He cannot be touched…. Emmitt Smith LITERALLY stated that he was “happy and relieved” when Sanders retired, because he KNEW he’d never have the record if he kept playin. Like I said, he played 10 seasons and retired at 30. After his age 30 season. Emmitt played til he was 35. Of sanders played that long he’d be the only player in history with 20,000 yards and that’s not even debatable. Everyone knows it. EVERY all-time great and ALL the coaches and ALL the columnists like literally anyone close to the game of football ALL acknowledge clear as day that Barry was the best running back to ever take a handoff. By far. I think I’ll listen to the likes of John Madden and countless others that clearly say he’s the best to ever do it. Because he is.

Yeah greatest running back ever who spent half his career running backwards!!! Emmitt Smith never ran backwards!! Emmitt Smith never quit! Emmitt Smith played Forever! Emmitt Smith won championships! On an offense that was centered solely around him... Emmitt Smith made Moves also! go watch the highlight videos! I'm so tired of the Barry Sanders bulshit!! the real historians that break down film have even rated Brown, Payton, Emmitt and Tomlinson ahead of him! he ran backwards his whole career he was a killer on third-down!! he was a great "RUNNER" but EMMITT WAS A BETTER "RUNNING BACK"

@@dazdavis7896Sanders was done in his last season. He lost his legs. Only 4.3 yards per carry. He wasn't gonna hang around and show a shell of himself. His shiftiness prevented him from getting hit hard. He had lost a step and wanted to retire healthy.

In 1988 I lived near the OSU football stadium. Each morning when I was walking to class, I'd pass Barry Sanders as he was going to the stadium workout facility. I didn't know who he was at the time, but he was always wearing sweatpants and it looked like his thighs were feet in front of his torso. I figured he was a running back, because it seemed like it would be impossible to tackle the guy. And he always said hello... his decency is for real.

Can’t get my head around that he only played the fourth quarter in three games yet he still put up those incredible numbers in that season , he would have posted numbers that would probably never be bettered had he played the full games , to this day still the best and most exciting player I’ve ever seen .

If he had came back for his senior season he would have blown away the NCAA rushing record. He was the starting tailback only one year as a junior and the back up behind Thurman Thomas as a sophomore before deciding to enter the NFL draft. In his one year as a starter he had a great chance to rush for over 3,000 yards if he'd played more in the 4th qtr of games but the team didn't need him too and he wasn't fishing for accolades or the spotlight.

No other college back could compare to his junior year. He wasn't playing for a blue blood program like OU, Nebraska, ohio State, Georgia, USC, Texas, Michigan, etc. Oklahoma State had a good team in the upper part of ther big 8 conference but they couldn't as a team get the conference title. Sanders and Thurman Thomas at least gave them a chance. He wasn't the biggest , fastest, or tallest just simply THE BEST EVER. His ability to hesitate and do an instant shake and direction change as well as his balance was inhuman and unfair. What other pro back could have had the NFL rushing record but retired instead with no regrets.
@LionsOnTheHunt313

He wasn't THEE fastest, but he was plenty fast. I mean he did run a sub 4.4 with a 40in vert to go along with ELITE quicks, agility, balance, lb for lb strength and vision!!! He was an absolute monster at his size sheesh! Only thing he wasn't elite at was his top end long speed, but he was usually long gone before that became a factor lol.

Yeah Barry was caught from behind a few times but he definitely more than made up for it. Lol :D The amount of ankles he twisted on Jukes to get additional yardage was insane. Now that I think about it all that season it seemed like if you were the opposing defense it was a victory if you kept him under 200 yards running. Back then the big 8 played good tough defense and it usually took more than one player to get him down sometimes just from effort there were some late hits that weren't called but that was football.

Thanks for this great reminder of Barry Sanders Heisman trophy season. I remember how hard it was to see his games on the east coast. CBS would show game break highlights, but that was basically it. Cable was not very big where I was, but to see it all in great depth now is still mind blowing even after he has gone into the PRO FOOTBALL hall of fame. The cuts , the slicing up all defenses good or bad it did not matter. There are great backs everywhere, but for the height and weight, and balance,speed, he had it all. Barry is the best, and that is no disrespect to jim brown, Bo jackson, Herschel, OJ, Walter Payton, and on and on and on.He is at the top of all list, I will let others decide who comes first.

Unreal. The knock on Barry was that he wasn't a tough enough runner on the goal line in the NFL. He ran goal line in college. So I don't know what that's about. I see him leaping over the pack like Walter Payton. Best ever pure runner. Most complete backs? Passing ,rushing, and receiving? Walter, LaDainian, Marcus, and of course Jim. But I'd still take Barry over anybody, anywhere, anytime.

Barry Sanders and Lawrence Taylor, are neck and neck in the Goat conversation. QBs dont get a honorable mention, except maybe Elway. WR's don't make the list either. No two players were spoken of by their colleagues and coaches more highly, than Barry Sanders and Lawrence Taylor. Everybody was in fear and awe of them. As individual players, those two could change a game on any play. QB's and WR's need each other, and a decent o line to make a play. Barry's Lions line was not that impressive, and Lawrence Taylor could disrupt the best offensive schemes. Two Goats on the mountain top

Sanders would probably prove just as good now or better because he could catch the ball out of the backfield as well as return kicks. Imagine the big money NIL deals he could garner these days. Trying to make big hits on him would be futile he had too much shake ,smoothness, and balance in him. More importantly he was a class act. It would be refreshing if more players now were as humble and classy as he was on the field.

We dont see RBs of this nature anymore. Every dam year the top RBs in draft were all no namers during the season and just favored within their schools of popularity respect. Every dam year of the draft, we always seeing the RPO types of RBs and they all average football players with a top speed in the 4.5 speeds at the 40. Its more than a QB and WR of great talent but the RPO schemes all more flag football type of players ( A level Flag football players have this vibe of QB and WR game) I really miss the old style of football when they were true football players of specific skill set of their position, today the starters all playing due to the 40 yard dash time which leaves out the other skills we all used to seeing. An all RPO offense sucks due to flag football vibes of scoring fast and often but if the team wins, its all good for their fans. Just game has gone to a level of leaving out players of specific skills over players who made and started due to their 40 with exceptions of the Linemen.
