Replace a 1991 4x4 tracker automatic transmission filter replacement.
The audio went at about 2;00 minutes or so, sorry about that. I made this video because I couldn't find anything about my particular tracker and I thought it might help someone out along the way. I'm giving back so to speak.
The problem: The transmission was slipping when cold and around corners when the vehicle was accelerating.
The procedure: It was quite simple but a little time consuming. I had to take off the drive shaft link to get the transmission pan off. I also used an angled socket extension on the pan bolts to get around and under the exhaust . Once I took all the bolts out it pretty much dropped out. I placed a giant lid under the vehicle to try and get most of the transmission fluid that gushed out the sides.
I replaced the two gaskets and bolted the filter back in. I added 2 litres of transmission fluid. Started the engine and waited for it to get hot. Once it was hot I checked the fluid level and topped it up to half way up the dip stick and then went for a drive around the neighbourhood. I came back home and topped it up to the full level.
Good news, it fixed the transmission slipping issue I was having. It's now ready for the bush once again.
Important: You must measure the fluid from the dip stick when the engine is hot, not cold. You probably know this but just encase you didn't.
Feel free to comment and make fun of me winging this filter replacement. If there is enough interest I'll keep posting.
