More and more manufacturers are switching to electronic suspension systems. This is a great tutorial on the suspension tuning path you can apply to any motorcycle with this style of electronic suspension adjustability (helmet & luggage icons).

Thank you for wanting to learn and leverage DMT content in the process! A suspension tune in person is $60. For email and 3 settings to test, it is the same. For 30 minutes of 1-1 video it is $80. All in US dollars.

Miss you Dave, can’t wait until you can tour New Zealand again. Changed my bike from the VFR1200F to the X. Upgraded suspension to Nitron R3 rear and Nitron TVT forks. I’m sure rear rebound is too fast, tyre Bridgestone T32’s picking up on trailing edge. Would love you to look over it. 👍🏻

Now to wait for a 21-22 tracer 9 gt to come through, I can't contribute cause I'm too far east though. Assuming it's not the OEM tires I get speed wobbles that are actually worse without saddle bags
@RobLS87
@RobLS87 Год назад
Ive been following so many of your videos, love them. I also just got this bike and overall love it. Getting used to mainly adjusting through electronics. Although a concern I have is that the steering gets very light at high speed (110+) that gets the front into a speed wobble. I’ve ridden many bikes and this is the first one that I can consistently get to do this and is not comforting. I am the same weight as the rider in this video. I still haven’t checked sag and all that stuff yet for myself which I know I need to do. But should I also look in to upgrading the steering damper as well?
@CatalystReactionSBW
@CatalystReactionSBW Год назад
Front getting light is normally due to the shock being too hard or too stiff. So shock travel being assessed is a critical piece of information. Next would be fork travel used to see if the settings are too stiff. Lastly would be checking rebound settings to see if the front is too fast keeping it high and rear is too slow keeping it down.
@rogerpriestwell6379
@rogerpriestwell6379 Год назад
someone else has also complained about the r getting light at speeds. This bike seems to have this issue. hope you figure it out.
@ihategmz5174
@ihategmz5174 Год назад
What tires are you on? I had the same problem. Turns out it was because of my a22’s. The other fix is a ohlins damper. This is after you have had it properly adjusted of course, if it still feel light at speed then tires or damper.
@ihategmz5174
@ihategmz5174 Год назад
Sorry. S22’s.
@CatalystReactionSBW
@CatalystReactionSBW Год назад
@@ihategmz5174 It would be very helpful for you to understand shock travel used (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KeZT1LCY8CU.html) and how that impacts poor handling. A steering damper does not help as it does not address why this is happening. Once you have shock travel optimal, then check fork rebound (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yTBepXwQQE8.html)

I have a question with regard to electronic suspension. With bikes that have this, you can generally select different modes to suit what you’re doing - race, road, comfort etc. It’s great that the system can constantly make minor adjustments to keep the suspension working at its optimal performance, but what if you need to change the setup. What I mean is weight, i.e. the spring rates will have been selected for an average rider and the valving for compression and rebound will be set around that spring rate. If you’re like me and you’re heavy and you need to change to a heavier spring, how does the electronic setup cope with those changes as it is making adjustments based on a different setup?
@CatalystReactionSBW

Great question that only the programmer can answer given the perameters that they created. On top of that comes oil age and degradation as the algorithm is created for new oil until it degrades to xx miles/kms or time? On the flips side, what we can do as owners is set sag, set damping and see what setting is needed to control rebound damping to create chassis stability. If we instantly get close to maximum, can a different VI or cSt oil be used to assist with that or will the programing have an issue with the slower flow rate? I hope we are lucky enough to have a programmer that works with these suspension systems educate us.

That is the same issue I have with being a little on the heavy side. I contacted BMW and they have no solution on spring rates. Maybe you can find someone that will make custom cartridges, springs and coils? You would think BMW would have thought of something that simple to resolve this problem. The electronic suspension does not work on the track or brisk canyon riding. Have friends that own from 2015-2022 and had complaints. Does anyone have bar vibrations? I have tested over 4 bikes and my hands went numb, any fix on this issue. I like the bike and being over 70yrs. old want a more upright position that will work for my riding missions. Thanks

Please make an info about general change of settngs after 'bios updates' done by the garage or BMW dealer during inspections, according to your experiance. It's 'all new' then sometimes? (What BMW hands out to her customers may not always be close to perfect, but sometimes felt plain opposite? And how does somebody know what he has realy got without somebody like you showing it to him?)

@CatalystReactionSBW
@CatalystReactionSBW Год назад
XR has modes and load settings plus dynamic or dynamic pro. You set sag via load setting, then assess what the modes do. Once you pick a mode, then test one rider, one rider with luggage and two riders to see what gives you the best quality ride.

Don't just rely on preload. Compression and preload need to work together as a team to share the load with the tyre.

Dies the suspension adjusted for each mode? What happens if you set it to road then want to switch to RacePro or any other mode?Or once you set it it applies to all?
@CatalystReactionSBW
@CatalystReactionSBW 2 месяца назад
For the suspension, all modes except Pro 1, 2 and 3 are ECU coded and you cannot make changes. When you set pro modes, those are your choice.

You can make manual adjustments over the electronics?
@CatalystReactionSBW
@CatalystReactionSBW Год назад
There is manual preload to use for the right fork and rear shock in some generations. You can also buy the dynamic pro option to give you more adjustment. The bottom line is that between sag, mode and load - you will find a good setting that makes the bike fun to ride.

Hello Dave, plan on picking up a 2023 S1000R with full electronic suspension. The previous ordered it with all options. I am 72yrs. old, 215lbs. without gear and upper intermediate track rider, Chuckwalla, and Fontana. Will be using the bike for canyon and tracking and would like to know if my bike will work well once set up by you? I had planned on purchasing a new 2024 base model but no one has any cartridges and springs for the front and rear suspension. Contacted all of the suspension manufacture in the world and no luck. What is your advice on my issue, can you help me out? Thank You
@CatalystReactionSBW
@CatalystReactionSBW 6 месяцев назад
Congrats on your S1000R and I am very suprised to know that no one offers any suspension for this model. A little resrach should yield if there are changes from previous years regarding fork and shock length and shock reservoir location. If they are the same as previous models, then you can back track and find out what companies made internals and a shock. Ohlins offered a shock in 2020 and KTech offered fork cartridges for the 2018. You can approach GP Suspension in Ventura to make cartridges for you.

I do not own a firearm. Your comment is rather nebulous and ethereal, and many many riders would disagree with you after having their set up as they are now empowered to learn on a motorcycle that meets all of their expectations and needs and gives them confidence to learn new skills. Looking at your profile, it seems you have no content to offer. I'm sure ChampU will have something to say about your post when they see it.

I dont know if its for the best. With mechanical adjusters you can go as precise as you want. Half-turn, quarter-turn. Really tune it to your exact needs. Unless the software gives you a digital "knob", that would be cool :) Like volume setting on your phone you know ? 1-10 for compression and damping scale or something if you feel like really getting into it.

Many manufacturers have all settings with numbers like 1-12 for all the different settings. But this system with no individual settings capability inferior.
