I owned and rode a 2004 Arctic Cat Firecat F6 ext and I put over 7000 kilometers on it with not a single mechanical issue. The best sled I have owned. Bullet proof.

I am a Ski Doo guy but I don't take much stock in what Snow Trax has to say. Seems like they always treat AC like a red headed step child. Always bragging up Polaris and putting down AC gets a little old after a while. I guess we know who pays their salary..

Also if they weren’t using the etec thats meant to be low gas and oil. Also the Zr is the race version of the arctic cats. And its also and 850 not an 800

*Suggestion* lineup the 2018 Polaris XCR 800, the new MXZ XRS 850 and the 2018 Arctic Cat ZR8000RS. We (the people who race cross country) want to see a x-country shoutout. I personally want to see a video on how the three handle in big bumps at high speed. And i’m positively sure that other people wanna see it as well.

Enjoyed the video but I have to say I'd value a more quantified perspective wrt to issues like power:weight, center of mass, time trials, identical maintenance parts list cost comparison etc... all that vs msrp to draw a real conclusion.

The one category that they didn't talk about here is durability. Those 800 Suzuki engines may be somewhat primitive compared to the other two but they don't break, period. They never have. That may be a moot point now with the introduction of the new Ctec 800 but you can get an 800 Suzuki powered Cat right now for pretty cheap compared to the others. It will take more gas and it is not as clean but they are strong, durable engines.

I have the 2016 Poo 800 and love it however the new fear mongering is that there's a thermostat and pipe sensor update to improve performance consistency AND durability by lowering operating temp by around 15 degrees? I find it interesting when there's nothing new, tweaks abound.... My hunch is it's tough to sell thousands of non currents when the only thing you're getting past 2015 is a different color!! I feel I have to mention last season while riding with friends, 3 of them on skidoos ranging from 2013 to brand new, all the BRPs were overheating while the Polaris despite an apparent hot thermostat ran perfectly!?? The overheating issue was significant in anything other than ideal conditions. On the 850 topic, I heard about plenty of primary clutch problems and vibrations on production sleds that would make a man sterile!!.....Oh and bulkhead breakage :-(..OUCH! I thought we were done with that? Skidoo is cutting edge for sure but there were PLENTY of issues out on the trails in 2017 so pre-production woes only, simply is not true. I am excited about the 850 ( and want to be ) but I had to change my yellow underwear because of engine failures in my Skidoo past, and have towed my share of them with my old Polaris's. I've seen 800 HO's with over 7000 miles on them without the aforementioned update, let the odometers be the judge of this technological wonder. All that being said....( I wonder if I'll EVER be able to change my underwear again!? )

Scale the suzuki artic cat 2 stroke up to 855 cubic inches 6 inline and make it a diesel with the same bore and stroke a cummins 2 stroke 855, now use exhaust trapping valves and a turbo. 2 strokes compared to 4 stroke are like comparing fusion to fission, the 2 stroke can unleash way more energy if tuned right! 4 stroke are nothing but a false reality that we all been brainwashed with.

Christophe If you stay on the pipe all the time sure, I rode an 850 last year and was really impressed with the mid range hit on them. I had a 250hp Sidewinder MTX at the time so me saying I was impressed with the torque is saying something. I don't get how they said for torque, it could have been both the Polaris and skidoo, but gave it to Polaris because it's a smaller engine. Shouldn't the tie breaker have been, give it to skidoo because as they said, it actually has more torque? I've also ridden tons of sleds , from 1976 John Deere 340 cyclone, up to 800 etec, and I've never once thought to myself "this sled vibrates too much"

The new Ski-Doo 850, kinda reminds me of the year 2003, when Ski-Doo released the REV, this changed the rider positioning and snowmobiling all together. And now in with the new 850's, Ski-Doo seems to be making another breakthrough in technology. Ski-Doo are always on top of things when it comes to innovation. That's what makes them so amazing. Torque, when will they learn... Power curve is whats matters not Torque. The power output and gearing is what the guy should talk about. Compare the Apex to an 2-stroke and you see that the 2-stroke has more torque... still the 4-stroke is more linear.

I'm sure it won't be long before the sleds are produced there also. and I can't wait untill Yamaha finally returns to 2 strokes look out you others AC and Yamaha will rule the world. but you won't report it because they won't wast there money paying all you media to report it. Haha how can you say the ski doo doesn't have as much bottom end torque, and the Polaris has good bottom end torque. Then, for the power curve, say the ski doo is too abrupt in the bottom end and the Polaris has a nice linear power delivery? Isn't that contradicting? You guys always seem to side with Polaris no matter what. They are terrific sleds, but you have to admit the new 850 is beautiful. Especially with the new SHOT starter.

+ quikgt yeah, rely on what "owners" say in youtube comments...there's a bag of laughs. Blown belts are most commonly caused by poor clutch alignment and if you've ever owned more than one brand of sled, you know clutching issues are very isolated and have nothing to do with what they're attached to, what generation the sled is and what time of day it is.

400+ miles so far so good although if the rider isn't smart enough to let the belt cool under hard conditions it will blow belts, but so will any of these sleds. Its just a matter of some people not used to a stock sled that makes close to mod sled power out of the box.

Too Bad you guys cant Access actual data on Reliability of the 2 Stroke engines offered in this comparison. That would be nice. In the Real world Cats mills are much more durable and reliable then the rest.

How can you do a shoot out and not talk about reliability ? Especially considering that both Poo and Doo have had their fair share of problems in the past few years... I'll stick to my 800 suzuki made Arctic Cat ;) Bulletproof and super strong up top!
@Rumblefan
@Rumblefan 7 лет назад
id take a Polaris or a Ski-Doo over an Arctic Cat any day, but youre right about the reliability. Theres a family of Cat riders we go riding with and they never seem to have any problems.

I'll second that, our group has owned 23 Arctic Cats since the '80s, and have only had one sled that has had ANY issue, which was a four stroke (2012 f1100NA, suspected electrical failure).

I have a hard time respecting a sled that smells like it's running on baby powder, jesus skidoo smell like new baby when you follow them.

Ski Doo and Polaris are best. Arctic Cat and Yamaha still feel like riding an original Rev, whereas the Axys and Gen4 platforms are a whole new experince

Ski-Doo wins again! Simply put, if you want the very best and you demand the best then you choose Ski-Doo! and for any of you Polaris minions that claim you get better gas mileage then your buddies Ski-Doo is flat out lying about it. Fit and finish on a Ski-Doo are the very best in snowmobiling period. I own a 2015 Ski-Doo Renegade XRS and it the most dominant snowmobile that SNOWTECH has every driven! Yes, they actually said that in their review! I Blew by you on my Ski-Doo!!!

Yeah, but you have to keep in mind that the 4 strokes require oil changes but the 2 strokes don't.

@@jameswarner7435 ya once a year at a fraction of the price two strokers spend on mixing oil. 1 jug of two stroke oil in the same price as my 4stroke oil change is.

That review sucked!!!! I have the Polaris and I get 20% better gas milage than my buddies Ski-doo 850!!! And I use less oil!! I'll take that point!!!!
@Rumblefan
@Rumblefan 7 лет назад
MrSnowman427 Yeah right. Ski-Doo is king of oil economy. Why do you think they blow up more than anyone else? Poor lubrication, thats why the new 850 has direct injection oil with deisel technology, to improve reliability without incrrasing oil consumption. By the way i like the Nova in your pic. My favorite classic muscle car
