Yoga with Aloha creator & host, Dave Miyamoto, teams up with teacher Paula Ota this week to take us through some yoga poses for after surfing. A surfer for over 50 years and yogi for over 10 years, incorporating yoga and stretching into his daily routine alleviated his chronic back and knee issues. This sequence promotes a healthy spine, lubricates the joints and opens up the hip flexors, great for recovering after a long surf session. #YogaWithAloha #HawaiiYoga #YogaForSurfers

Dave Miyamoto’s Teacher Bio:
Dave started his yoga journey in 2011. He found yoga through a work colleague and yoga teacher, Paula Ota. He soon realized that yoga was a way to help with back issues. A surfer for over 50 years and a professional photographer for over 30 years, Dave found that yoga helped him recover from his injuries and helped him to focus. It really helped his surfing.
In 2020 Dave had the opportunity to take teacher training with Michele Santos at Sun Yoga Hawaii during his experience resulting from the pandemic. This disruption in the world made him understand and appreciate how embracing change can help forge new paths in the human experience.
Dave’s love of his family Michelle, Ryan, Claire, Harri, and 3 fur babies keeps him grounded and ready to take on new challenges along life’s journey.
Dave’s favorite quote is “ Life is like a camera. Focus on what is important. Capture the good times. Develop from the negatives. And if things don’t work out- take another shot.”
Aloha & Namaste

Paula Ota's Teacher Bio:
Paula Ota was born and raised on O’ahu, she has three sisters and is a single mom to a teenage son. She found yoga in May 2008 and noticed a difference not only in her physical flexibility but also her mental, emotional and spiritual openness. At the beginning of 2012 an opportunity arose for her to become a yoga teacher. Similar to athletics, yoga is a discipline of being present and she found it second nature to look at a body and describe how to energetically find alignment and then watch how the physical body will eventually follow.
Paula has received 500-hours of yoga alliance certified teacher training from her divine teacher and beloved friend Rupali Embry of ShantiGirl Yoga Hawaii. She is currently in training to become an Ayurvedic Counselor following the teachings of Dr. David Frawley via the amazing Mary Rain, owner of Open Space Hawaii. You can find Paula on-line via zoom, in person at Marriott Waikiki Beach Hotel or at the Yoga Room Hawaii. It is her true belief, if you don’t like yoga, you have not found the right style for you. Unlike any other sport or exercise, yoga is truly for everyone, an all inclusive and not just a physical practice. If you have the right attitude and give yourself time, you can truly heal yourself through yoga and Ayurveda.
In addition to teaching yoga, which she loves, she is a photographer and real estate agent with SC Realty.
Quotes to live by:
“Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so love the people who treat you right, forget about the ones who don't, and believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.” - Harvey Mackay
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” - Maya Angelou
“If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude.” - Maya Angelou
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to leave the world a better place...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
