This model is not exactly my car; but the video has been so clear and so clean that next week my regular cracket - cracket will be eliminated from my Lacrosse... Thank you Charles, you show me that a difficult job can be made easier if you know the right way to handle it...

Well done Charles, very strong on the instructions of the hard to view areas. Thorough coverage of each step from removal to reinstall. Comprehensive description of keeping things safe in lifting and loading the vehicle for final torqueing. Gives a very solid feeling to being able to get in there and tackle the monster. Thanks very much for your help.

Charles, excellent video, I've watched two videos of yours thus far, excellent detailed work sir. There isn't enough videos on these Park Avenues on youtube for various fixes of sorts. I've got a 2004 Ultra, that needs the front end tightened up, I hit a elk & luckily didn't total her, it was a close call though. Your time is appreciated & I subbed. Later Brother

I followed your video on the timing chain replacement on the 2004 Mazda Tribute/Ford Escape and you are a life savor for sure! I just wish you included videos of how to take things apart easily...It is such a pain to work on my 04 Ford Escape, I constantly ran into clearance issues and whatnot throughout the entire process. That being said I love your videos, keep it up!! :)
@CharlesAndCars
@CharlesAndCars 6 лет назад
Yeah, sometimes there is no easy way to take things apart. Many cars (especially newer ones) tend to be limited in access space and, in many cases, it's getting to what needs to be fixed/replaced that takes most of the time... not actually fixing/replacing it.
@CharlesAndCars
@CharlesAndCars 6 лет назад
That's why you end up with so many tools over time as you add them to deal with specific cases where they just save you enough time to be worth owning...

I agree with you about not dismantling the steering knuckle/hub. I would only add that the job can be further shortened by not removing the brake caliper and disc.

I have always used a torque adapter which like a boxed end wrench for a torque wrench and torque them down . as you said you can add a few pounds to spec to do it without removing strut and axle.

I have 04 LeSabre so I'm a big fan. Your wheel bearing vid where you showed hitting the old one with a hammer to get it out saved me about a year ago. Now I did the left control arm , no problem but the right one, Moog by the way, I got the two bolts in loose, but the ball joint is a couple inches off. And the knuckle is dropped down too far. I can jack up the knuckle, but I can't wrestle it over enough. Why is it hanging too low? Then I tried loosening the hub nut, no help. Had to take a break I'm getting wore out trying to change the jack heights. You make it look easy. But the easier it looks, the harder it is!.

Hey I also have park avenue and the bushing on front driver side is bad, do I need to replace the entire arm? Is there a lateral link in front? Also should I replace cv joint axle or wait until I have too because it’s all original suspension and just turned 20 this year and showing signs of needing new air shocks in back and now front driver side bushing
@nelljayne6864
@nelljayne6864 2 года назад
If I could send a picture, it looks like a ball that should be connected to the lateral link? But it’s not connected to anything. Like on back of the arm, there’s a ball at the top and nothing is connected to it, im also leaking coolant from the front driver side near the coolant reservoir , manifold, or radiator. Not sure but it’s not on the side with the pump and pully. And the leak is like under the heat shield way up front, hoping it’s a hose or the radiator. Let me know what you think

I'm curious why u put the suspension under load before u tighten everything down. As always , great vid ty for the help on my 2002 park ave.
@CharlesAndCars
@CharlesAndCars 3 года назад
Before tightening the bushing bolts you want the suspension at ride height so there bushing is in the proper position before torqueing it down. That ensures that the twist that normally occurs in the bushing isn't more than it should be. If you torque it without it being at ride height (preloaded) then when it is at ride height it already has torque on the bushing that it shouldn't.

@@CharlesAndCars Thanks, I see now that you said that near the beginning of the video🙄 I missed it. I have a 2000 Ultra I have enjoyed since 2006. The control arms were replaced 6 years ago. The bushings are still good but one of the ball joints went bad. This job seemed intimidating but it really isn't. I will need an axle eventually and that seems more intimidating especially the part about getting it seated back into the transmission. Is it not typical practice to replace those seals when you change the axles?

@CharlesAndCars

If the ball joint has a zerk fitting then it should be greased. If it doesn't have a zerk fitting then there's no provision to grease it. Non greasable ball joints already have grease in them from the factory.

I have one of these cars it's an 03 and right where the control arm connection on the forward part of the subframe the car had been in a collision and the welds on the mount had all split, I had my mechanic weld them for around fifty dollars, he said one good bump or pothole and the car would have been on the ground causing several thousand dollars of damage, glad I spotted it while checking the transmission mounts cuase they ended up being severely worn causing the motor to rock back and forth, liked your vid, Thanks, do you have a Facebook link we can connect with you on, I have an automotive group on their that I'd like to invite you to
