Just bought one and love it. Found the mirrors loose and thought here we go they are rubbish like this review says.. only all you have to do is pull down the rubbers on the joints and what do you know there are nuts to tighten it in every angle. So nothing wrong with them. Add another point! Test rode GSX14. CB13 and the XJR is smoother, feels lighter to ride and looks nicer. And that's why I now own one.

Style 7?? Only 7 really? This was and still is the best looking retro, whatever you say. but then I may be a bit biased because I own one The Honda is the best bike as far as handling goes. The Suzuki has the best engine. The Kawasaki, well it's the best for the Eddie Lawson wannabe's. Honestly, though I like them all.

My father in law has one that he got new in 2004. It has done less that 1000miles and looks like new still. When I saw it I had to look at the reg as I was confused by an older looking bike in pristine condition like it was bought new that day lol. Health reasons means he is too scared to take it out. Rides other bikes tho, this one is his baby.

Big bike for only 5 gears?. Probably the biggest issue but not mentioned here at all?.

I rode one of these everyday for 14yrs, lots of that as a city courier. Behaves like it's half the size and if you're lazy you can stick it in 3rd in the morning, and neutral when you get home. I could have had anything I wanted but always had these, 'nuf said. I did always put slightly lower bars on them tho just help you cut through the wind, without them the posture was a bit too upright for my liking.

Hi M&M guys... I have a question which I know I am going to get called crazy for... I ask it because it has to do with the bike you are reviewing here... I had only previously handled a 125cc but quite briefly and that was like 12 years ago, therefore taking a bike now I will feel like a first timer most surely. The thing is guys, that I have always wanted to have a bike especially a retro style muscle bike, and I have let time passed and I am sort of the in the 40s crisis where you wanna do everything that you haven't done jejeje. I spotted a Yamaha XJR 1300 SP Yellow/Black (2002) in a dealership, which is a very rare bike to find in my country, and it only has about 6.000kms. And the price is right, I don't wanna a let it pass... I guess I can take it slowly, anyway I am 43 and definitely more cautious that when I was younger... also this bike is a monster, huge and heavy but I guess than being a Naked Retro style bike makes the handling less aggressive, and is not a bike to race like a bullet but more to enjoy cruising around... my major concern is cornering or taking curves and braking since it is 240 kgs. So my idea is to buy it since I don't wanna let pass the opportunity , and take it slowly, and even if I have to enroll in some school for handling lessons I'll do it... What do you guys think...??? Is it ok to start with it, can someone get the grips of riding it even being inexperienced... or should I start with an smaller engine bike instead???

I know this is a year too late, it I had a Yamaha 600cc Diversion, before buying one of these. It was X reg I think. Red and black. The only issue I had was getting used to the brakes. They are from the R1 of the time, so they stop like hitting a concrete wall. I nearly dropped it at the first junction, just using the back brake! It was on a hill and I was used to weaker brakes. It's really easy to ride and very forgiving. I didn't even realise it was as heavy as what they claim in this video! The bike has a lot of torque and linnier power delivery, so, go steady at first but you'll suit to it in no time I also never had a problem with the mirrors either

Bar end look better and you can see around your elbows. Win win. Too bad it drinks as much as it does. I get 9l/100km when I'm taking it easy...

9l/100km? Honestly I doubt that or you measured on racetrack. I ride VMax (the 1200 and the 1700) as well as a Suzuki SV650 and I still own my water bufalloe GT750 (2 stroke). Non of these bikes come over 8 when driven more or less road legal. Four options I see: You got confused with 6 and 9 You ride on racetrack (or you ride LIKE you were on a racetrack) Your XJR needs maintenance Your calculation is wrong..

I wish Kawasaki made a modern ZX14 based naked bike. Call it the Z1400. I ride a Z1000 and would love more powerful version
