I’m really tired of people (like in this movie) saying Nadal only has strength and stamina going for him. You don’t win 19 majors and have a winning record against Federer unless your a talented shot maker and smart as hell. Just cause he grunts loud doesn’t mean he lacks touch or control of the ball. History will decide but he is the savior of tennis for me. Before Nadal it was only Roger crushing his opponents without a challenger.
@ishxnnn

Likewise, it makes it seem like fed doesn't have the will to win. Both have the will to win, the difference is their styles of hitting
@SuperWhofan1
@SuperWhofan1 4 года назад
@@ishxnnn 100% agree. They both hit hard. They both have passion and drive. It's just the different styles perceived by the viewers on TV. That french guy on the video makes it seem like Nadal is a thug or something. Watch Nadal play up close in person and try to isolate the shots away from the vocal sounds.. It's amazing what he can do with the ball as can Roger.

He isn't a shotmaker, stop lying. He doesn't go for the winners, he isn't offensive. Shotmaking tennis was last seen long time ago, like Australian Open 2005 SF or Masters Cup Final. His strenghts are on the baseline, with his trademark forehand. He's good at the rest of the game, and enough.
@SuperWhofan1
@SuperWhofan1 4 года назад
@@masters.1000 He isn't offensive??? You don't have a clue buddy. It sounds like you are playing favorites instead of being pragmatic. I was a college player, club pro and have spoken with former players like McEnroe, Brad Gilbert; Bud Collins and Courier through the USTA functions and they ALL say off camera that Nadal is the complete package and real deal. Brad and McEnroe predicted back when Nadal only had 3 majors that he might end up the greatest. Go watch Nadal practice on a small court and watch his mechanics. If you know more than those guys you are a special person.

@@SuperWhofan1 i see your point about shotmaking but if you are about to make a documentary and you are asked to compare the strengths of those too, then the certain skills and trademarks of each individual are very clearly distributed. Nadal's top spin forehand is what counters Roger the most i think. It makes him work harder for the winners, which he usually goes. But i agree with you Nadal is a champion! He obviously is exceptionally good at every aspect of the game and knows how to win. Sometimes they dont do him justice

You root for the underdog, then the underdog begins kicking the crap out of the champion, so the champion becomes the underdog, so you pull for him, and on and on it goes, it's impossible not to like both of these guys. Just brilliant. From a huge Jimmy Connors fan.✌️

It is a non intelligent mistake believing FEDERER does not put a ton of effort, or that NADAL does not have talent, finesse, intelligence or the strategic mind of a chess player. If you do think that you will be missing 90% of what make them truly great and sticking to what you want to see which is a very limited part of reality. They both put a ton of effort, a ton of passion and are as competitive and as tenacious as one can be but they just express it differently. They both are extreme virtuosos but they transpire it in a different fashion. It is like comparing two Black Belts from different martial arts. Yes they are completely different, but there are tons of qualities both have to have in order to be Black Belts. The way you hear some people talk about NADAL would have you believe he is a pile of muscles and emotions with a racket on his hand puffing from his nostrils like an animal, unintelligent, unrefined and out of control. This skewed perception is just a reflection on how limited intellectually one can be when breaking down what makes a player truly great in any sport.

Velha Guarda Tricolor So true. They are both absolute masters of tennis, and the attitudes required to win. After watching tennis on RU-vid for more than a decade now, it’s too clear to me that 90% of people here are not very good at tennis, they haven’t played for long enough or at high enough level to appreciate their skill, and can’t see the nuances that the pros have, they can’t recognise the depths of levels that both of these players, and many others, have in order to push through challenges and adapt to so many players. It’s just unbelievable how they’ve evolved their games to keep winning through the years. But real tennis fans can appreciate it, but the general public or other prejudiced “fans” maybe just want to watch their favourite players win and hate it when they don’t. I agree, it limits their perception of reality. There’s so much to what these players do that it just astounds me year after year, the slight changes to their shots and their court positioning. Only slight changes here and there but that’s what makes the difference.

A beautiful composed documentary about one of the greatest match of all time, combined with inside information. We hear the players themselves, trainer coaches, parents, commentators, peers as well as historic footage, when they were kids. It gives you an understanding where the player comes from and what made him the champion he is today. A symphony of a documentary - you have to watch it, even when you are not into tennis.

I like the subtextual lessons about life that this doc illustrates. I think part of Nadal's edge is due to the attitude he and his friend referenced. The problem with thinking you are the best is that, no matter how unbelievably talented you are, you are sure to meet trials that mess with that reality in your head and it's really embarrassing to start losing, getting behind, or having some off moments in a row, when you believe you are king. It messes with you, big time. But if you have the genuine belief that you aren't the best and are an ever-improving warrior of creative endeavor, this constancy (that is a bedrock for quality of performance) is able to be much more evenly maintained.

I’m really tired of people just saying that Federer is talented and Nadal is just an athlete. Nadal’s biggest attribute for me is his brain and the way he constructs points. He varies his game so much based on who he plays, particularly his backhand. Physically, he has not been the same player since 2013/14. He completely changed his game in 2017 to be less physical and in that time since, he has won 8 grand slams and counting. That is more than legends like McEnroe and only Borg, Sampras and the big 3 have won more. This is in 6 years without physicality.

Very very good documentary so far, high production value and did the research. Few thoughts tho, having followed tennis at the time. Federer was Far from invincible in 2008, lost to young up & coming Nole in Australuan, absolutely demolished by Nadal at the French, and bunch of weird smaller tournament losses (was said that he had mono, maybe a factor, but also the up and comers were becoming stronger and hungrier as well). Still true he was the king of grass, but going down 2 sets fairly quickly to Nadal, couldn't help but think Fed doesn't stand a chance. Rain delay definitely seemed to help level the match to some degree. Sure there was the comeback, the 4th set tiebreak speaks for itself. Iconic match finishing in the darkness with a new very deserving (& up to then seen as fairly unlikely, on this surface, altho arguably 07 wimbledon final intense 5 setter proved he Could win it all) champ, still from a strictly quality of tennis / competition standpoint, it was a fairly run of the mill Federer Nadal match with a few amazing shots here and there. But don't get me wrong, Federer Nadal matches were almost always a treat and then some, so much unpredictability & contrast of styles, the ultimate battle of champions. We were spoiled to experience this rivalry for so many years, and I'd be amazed if anything close comes along to resemble it in 10 years or so

Why are so many people hooked on a sport that they cannot even see the ball being played , just the occasional sound. Or is the truth about being seen at an event above the event itself. Center court attendees pay more for an outfit to be "seen" by the occasional camera than the court ticket price by a long way. A sad state of the history of a common sport dont you think.
