this one was fun and a good out come , i did test the earth lead of the vehicle but i could not make it fail any questions please just ask i do this to help
Had the ABS & traction light come on the dash plus headlights pulsing recently, then a few days ago the whole car went completely dead when the wife was on her way home from work one day, got it towed to our garage they changed the alternator for a new one however the two lights are still on and headlights still pulse, mechanic said the battery was perfect when checking that too so ruled that out, I’m going to go back to the garage on Monday morning and tell him about the earth so fingers crossed 🤞🏻 I’ll keep you posted how I get on. Many thanks for posting this video, been searching for answers for a couple of days now and this seems to be the most plausible.
Trev this is great - your narrative is so helpful . I have a 2011 Kuga with the infamous U100 ( generic com fault) and a U0129 (Lost Communications with Brake System Control Module) - these are under the EPS module .. (electronic power steering ). Then it also pulled an instrument cluster (u1900 which I guess is non specific) and a B2477 under the AWD module ..I’m wondering if it could be a resistor as all these modules are in the same side / proximity to each other ? No engine lights on , did a live diagnostics and showed engine temp of 48 degrees ( after a very short run but the gauge showed 90 degrees) . Will clear the codes and inspect the harnesses /cluster etc and post back here .. hopefully like Trev was saying we can learn from each other 👍
Thank you sir your right we need all the help we can get I normally find u1900 code is bad solder joints in the back of the cluster but that’s not to say the cluster is not bad to as I haven’t had one yet but keep posted
Hope you’re all well guys - just an update on my kuga :I pulled a day time running light fuse and put it back. The car wouldn’t start / run after that ..had the instrument cluster checked and there’s no physical issues with it but there seemed to be a missing body control fuse - this was replaced and the car functioned as normal . These Kugas are a mystery. My scan tool shows the mileage on the cluster to be around 29 k which doesn’t match ( car has done 76000) so I’m sure it had been changed In the past but not programmed to the car correctly which could be causing issues, but the first thing I’ll do is get a new ground to the car as Trevor mentioned…..
@@MrErnicito did you mean same codes as mine ? I cleared them and the AWD ( possibly had a new sensor or pump in the past again showing as not configured correctly to instrument cluster ) , Door / passenger modules, parking aid module codes came up after this …2 CAN BUS faults - I still think there’s an issue with the looms from the instrument cluster to these modules so will get them inspected / tested soon 👍 Having the Haldex system serviced so will ask them to check voltage across this and clean the connectors etc ✌️
Having same problems, lights on dash abs traction message of power steering malfunction radio on and off. Been in to garage they checked over and came to conclusion battery was getting drained by too many short trips cold weather using heaters lights etc they charged it up and with in a week or two lights etc started popping up. Will try this or mention to garage thanks a lot.
After the same intermittent faults for over a year new battery new alternator multiple trips to garages that couldn’t find the problem I decided to move over that earth to the turret and also re soldered the joints on dash cluster pcb board the car now seems to be throwing no lights or problems 🤞🏻 didn’t want to do the work myself but at a loss with the garages
dam it (I know this is an old video now) but I have a bunch of spurious codes, can network, instrument cluster, AWD, particulate filter, and I cleaned the earth, on the metal bracket but didn't put the earth wire on the strut turret, I'm taking it in this morning for a diagnostic so I don't have time to do it, Grrr😭
well I'm not entirely sure what was going on to be honest, when I took it in the guy put it on his diagnostic machine and said he couldn't understand why I had so many fault codes, all that he could see was a DPF fault (sensor) and the AWD Haldex module needed recoding (Amnesia?). He did say (he really does know his stuff and has been doing this kind of work for years) that maybe my diagnostic machine was to blame for erroneous fault codes, and I must admit I was a bit dubious about the quality of my scanner and have since sent it back, so a recode of the Haldex module and a new DPF sensor and all seems good for the moment. As a side note the DPF code threw me a bit as I'd fitted a DPF sensor a few years back and thought surely that can't have gone faulty already but apparently they are known for early failure and at £120.00 a pop it's a tad expensive especially as a Mercedes DPF sensor comes in at around the 60 quid mark...@@trevorchillery1019
