I have an 04 P71 myself and it will scoot! From a standing start, it still gets a decent launch but once rolling it will pull forever. Forget 80 MPH, put your foot in the oil pan at 45 MPH and you'll be at 70MPH in about the time it takes you to spit. In short, don't underestimate these cars. You may just get a surprise. I know I surprised a few fart cannon equipped Hondas already. :P
I am looking at a used 2011 crown vic next week. It said it was silver with beige interior. I did not think the beige would look. However, yours looks great. Can’t wait to see the car it has 17k miles. It is being sold by a rental car company for 19,222
Wow , I forgot I made this comment 6 years ago . Here we are in 2017 and I still have the car. I bought in 2011 from Enterprise rent a car., just like I said in the comment.
That comment was posted 6 years ago. So, around 2011 a rental car company was selling a 2011 Crown Victoria with 17k miles, which is very low. The MSRP when new was around $29,000 so that's a pretty good price. Your 2011 P71 probably has 120,000 miles on it and isn't an LX model. And it's like 7 years old now. So of course it's gonna be that cheap.
Sorry for the delayed follow up on this comment. As of Jan 2018 my Crown Victoria LX I purchased in 2011 has 48,000 miles. There was a 2 year period I hardly drove it because I was enjoying driving around this old truck I picked up. The car belongs to my wife now. Its been garaged kept since I picked it up in 2011. I don't recall anything really going wrong with the car other than the usual tires , oil and filter changes. Oh wait I take that back, the air conditioner had a leak in the evaporator. That one cost some money because the dash had to be removed, then the accumulator went out. I probably got $1600.00 in air conditioner repairs. If Ford ever comes out with a LARGE v-8 sedan I'm buying it , until then I'm keeping the Crown Victoria. My other car is a 2003 Grand Marquis Ultimate with 138,000 . maybe I'm old fashion but I like a big car with a V-8
I have always wanted a sport or preferably a Marauder. Your sport sounds awesome though man. The 32 valve in the Marauder is really the main reason why I would prefer a Marauder to a sport. I believe it has a better suspension too but I could be wrong
@mr66bird I guess we still have them pick em up trucks. How did you get a 2011 Crown Victoria? Was it ex-rental fleet? I'm going to miss the Panther cars.
Well I am just saying I own an 04 Grand Marquis that has a salvage title due to a collision and it held up magnificently well. Insurance said it was a total loss, I put a new door and front clip on for a mere 300 or so from a salvage yard, you cannot tell it has ever been damaged. And Zero injuries were sustained.
@DizzyMan24 Where did you find this figure at?... the 4.6 has as much power as my focus and will never reach 60 in 6.5 seconds.. It couldnt even reach 60 in 8 seconds..
I had the pleasure of renting a 2011 for about a month totally loved it not too good on handling though but thats just the way I like it, I love taming wild beasts, you'll be missed Crown Vic... =(
These civilian cars are geared high (2.73s) and they have a lower stall torque converter (12") P71 units will be geared with 3.27s or 3.55s and will have a higher stall torque converter (11.25") as well as have different programming and higher shift points/rev limiter. If you have a P71 that would get "smoked" by this car, you have something wrong. Perhaps a DIRTY MAF SENSOR. A fouled MAF sensor will cause these cars to be a DOG. I chased a similar issue for awhile and it turned out to be a dirty MAF sensor. Also, the fuel economy was about 3-4 mpg lower. No kidding!
Even with a limited slip differential and new all-season tires, I can't keep them from spinning if I "punch" the accelerator from a dead stop. On dry pavement.
The interceptors are much heavier so it negates a lot of that. Not to mention that the overal performance difference is more "butt dyno" than anything substantial. My mercury has the 2.73 open rar and with od turned off she scoots well for being so fat. And realistically these cars shouldve come stock with a 3.73 rar as most anyone who has one say its virtually the perfect match for the power curve, even with the 12" converter.
@notecages25 These cars are also good for highway chases. They may be limited to around 120, but they can maintain that speed for much, much longer than probably 80% of other cars on the road.
I almost fell in love with a Marauder I was looking at when I was looking for my first car, but I just couldn't get over the fact that it was 4 speed auto only. If it came with a 5 speed mustang transmission I would've been all over that car..
@Maserati7200 They still made them for select markets, like the Middle East and I believe Canada also. Every once in a while one pops up here in the states. Go on Autotrader and search for 2008-2012 Crown Victoria LX and you will find a few around the country.
they said they were gonna replace the crown vic with the ford taurus almost all the way back before 2000. 12 years and still in service. i have the feeling these cars will still be around for at least another 5 years before they retire them. anything they make these days is not as reliable as the crown vics. they are so well built, made to be running all day, durable and a nice comfortable ride. handles smoother than butter. yeah, this isnt the end of the panther platform for a long time.
@mr66bird That's right. I'm too lazy to check right now but maybe it was stability control that they don't have. It's a new requirement for 2012 that all new cars have ESP and the CV and Grand Marquis don't have it hence the export only. At any rate it's sad that they are going away. I really liked riding in the back of them.
@323Farror grand marquis is from Mercury which is one of the luxury lineup (also Lincoln) of Ford. The Grand Marquis shares the same chassis as the Crown Victoria and the Lincoln Towncar. No new Crown Victoria is being being sold to the public, you can buy a used one, however. Just cuz the Marquis and Crown vic look the same, doesn't mean they're the same car. Some people only like the crown vic
@Chris02LS1ss Crown Victorias were Fleet cars since 2007, Fleet DOES NOT MEAN Exclusively Government; Crown Victorias were also available to Rental Car Companies and Corporate Fleets.
I don't particularly like them. But that's the zero to 60 time of an automatic 150 hp pt cruiser. PT cruiser weighs about what, 3600-3800? Fat pigs. Crown vics are nice, and yours seems to be running right. Planning on upgrading it?
I was about to buy one a few days ago a 03 p71 but I remember they were slow as balls and the 2011 seems no better. I bought an 08 taurus awd with a v6 3.5 litter and it goes like snot, I owned an 01 crown vic a few years ago.
Currently the only diesel cars in the US are Volkswagens. There are a couple of other German diesels here, but they are way too expensive (over $55,000USD, affordable would be between $20,000 and $35,000). There are lots of VW TDI's where I live considering current fuel prices of $3.50 in my city. Urban areas are usually around $4.00/gal, and this is watered down petrol. Large trucks are diesel, smaller trucks (like Ford F150's) are generally gasoline. Small gas I4's are common here.
@uscgjake22 the marauder is awesome imo, but it really REALLY needed a supercharger from the factory put on there to be able to compete with some of the smaller, lighter midsize performance sedans which is what almost everyone drove then.
@Chris02LS1ss and also I just went to Joe Machens Ford in Columbia, MO in November last year and looked at 2010 Grand Marquis... so what are you talking about?
@normanmj Rentals aren't always base models. Rental companies buy the cars that offer the most return when it's time to sell them. Some rental cars offer the top trim level. A Camry LE isn't bad at all though. It's a Japanese Buick.
I wasnt aware of that. I thought diesels were pretty much available in the US. Here in europe the difference between a diesel and petrol car is minimal. I always knew they were more expensive but not that much as you say in your country. The thing is that there are huge emission regulations here. That makes people buy small diesel inline4s. Its not affordable or moral to have a V8 here. Btw do your trucks run on petrol or diesel? And is diesel cheaper?
@tbirdsport302 I love those things in black, they look stealthy.. I think they released it at the wrong time as well.. I use to frequent Bradenton Raceway quite a bit and usually saw 1 or 2 running down the track.. Supercharger is definitely what they needed
@94Johnnyboy1 There are a lot of factors regarding 0-60 times, the most crucial is altitude from sea level. If that Crown Vic is 3000ft above sea level while your GMC is only 500ft (just to put an example) the difference of course will be reflected on acceleration times. It also has a lot to do with the driver, you can see a lot of wheelspin (TC light on) during the car's launch, maybe some traction issues
@Thunderchicken1997 your mostly right....with the elimination of the Panther Platform Ford's lineup is now mostly Front Drive Based...except for the mustang and its Trucks.
Dual exhaust, 3.55 L/S differential, 2004+ P71 airbox with 80mm MAF with an SCT custom tune (to calibrate the larger maf) will make it as fast if a tad faster. It be just cheaper to just get the P71 :)
@cheezgrated The title says 2011, which is the Vics last year and they last long enough to not be out of fleet. Dont know if they sell to rental fleets.
I don't mind fixing my Crown Vic Police Interceptor. I only paid $120 a month for it. Bought it in '08 after it was retired (it was a slicktop and never was on regular duty) and put 32,000 miles on it. Yes, I have had to put probably about $3,000 into fixing a $6,000 car. But Ford built a fricking masterpiece of a powertrain with the 4.6 and the 4R70W. The car ain't fast but I don't have any trouble passing on the highway. I also get 27 MPG highway with a 3.27 rear end with the AC on avg. 65 mph
A loaded Vic weighs +4000 pounds and the V8 is only a 281. They don't get off the line speeds, but when your 4 banger is running out of breath at 100 my V8 doesn't even start breathing until around 100, and under good conditions/ excess weight taken out could max out at around 150 (with the aluminum PI drive shaft ) with the limiter removed of course. It's not a ricer, it's a cruiser.
