Used to race a "Bug Eye" Sprite and loved just leaving Mustangs and Camaros in the corners.....they would wheel me in on the straights but I would again just embarrass them in the corners, passing inside or out as needed. Great handling is far better than incredible horsepower blastong to a corner, hold on, braking and and then repeating it again. The greatest racing I have ever experienced!

$700 gets you 40hp from an add on ECU that comes off when you take it to the dealer. i'm not sure where the other 40 hp comes from

hatchbacks are fun to drive. mine weighs 1900lbs and with the suspension mods handles like a go kart!

Mine handles like a skateboard - and I don't mean a longboard either I mean a real 52mm wheel skateboard! I can slalom thru all the speed bumps in the parking lot, it's a blast. Handles so well it has an illusion that the back wheels are turning too. Love it!

No other car has as much personality as these - at least not for the price point. I'm reserving judgement until I drive one...I'm going next week for a test drive. BUT it's crazy that you can get these about two years old with 10-15,000 miles for less than 15 grand. I don't think there is any other car this fun at this price point. Great job Jay.

+Jay Scott just keep in mind the s2k does not have a turbo, however the rpm on the ap1 s2k goes all the way up to 9rpm its like a fucking motorcycle on wheels best driving position ever made however the abarth has alot of character and the sound is nearly pornographic the s2k is very nice too with the right duel exhaust system try both man but i really want the abarth! and the s2k myself both decent on gas fun, head turner but very very different cars with different fun factors.

+Michal Foster for 10 grand more... right now im looking at s2000's.. anything under 50k miles is about $25,000 .. and about $14,000 for a 2013 abarth with 20k miles. Yes I also say s2000 is probably more fun but much more expensive..

There is a special magic driving Abarth cars: You feel the power and the speed in this little rocket! If you you drive 200 Km/h with a ordinary Porsche or Ferrari on the German autobahn, it is nothing special. But 230 Km/h in an Abarth... you have the feeling of double speed. But most fun with Abarths is driving them on roads in the mountains.

This car is the perfect example of how, just as with High-End Audio, Wine, etc. you DON'T need to spend crazy money to have something light up your Soul. I had a 1987 944s years ago ( great car ) that wasn't 20% as fun as the ABARTH I bought :-) CIAO !

At 4:02 "...steel rotors..." AFAIK nobody uses steel for automotive rotors. Metal rotors are near-always made of cast-iron. It has much better thermal stability and conductivity than steel.

This fella from road race motorsports doesnt know much about these cars does he. The speed limiter is easily taken off with the correct software and a laptop. Also all of you worrying about the engine being able to take that amount of extra horsepower are being dramatic. This is an abarth engine, The chances are it already has upgraded internals, and even if not manufacturers allways produce less horsepower than an engine is capable of from the factory too lesson the chances of failure and extend the life cycle. More damage is caused by idiots doing burnouts e.t.c as the tremendous instant strain on you gearbox/clutch/drive shafts. Someone like Jay of course isnt an idiot for doing burnouts, He can afford to pay someone to fix it , But i mean the general population.

In a two week period I drove from Key West to Michigan and back twice in my 500 Abarth. Was amazed how well the standard down force worked when you get up around 100 mph. And it's the perfect car for Key West where I live.

Cool little cars but after driving the Fiesta ST back to back, for not a lot more money the Fiesta basically blows it out of the water. Much more comfortable and planted, roomy and more power/quicker to boot! The cars are rumored to be one of the most purchased vehicles in history after automotive journalists had their test drive. The Fiat is cute for sure, like the Mini, but Ford had lots of time to fine tune hot hatches going back to their the early Cosworth/Euro stuff, and they've got it down!

I had my 2014 with the madness 500 piggyback, de-cat, and upgraded waste gate actuator up to 142 mph according to the speedo. not sure that 135 speed limiter is accurate or may that was on the earlier models.

let me ask something how can you get 230+horsepower & still have it limited top speed how does that work!? if you re-map it for the extra power then surely the top speed limiter is removed? or why bother? & yes i do own a abarth :-)

The Engines can take abuse as they are Forged engines from the factory , Fiat/Abarth was not playing around when they designed this car

Ha, just proves that any car can be upgraded to perform better. The elephant in the room that nobody is mentioning is that these are not cute, they are all Butt Ugly designs. Jay had to do this show with no other car behind, any other car on the market will show how ugly they are. The proportions are just wrong!

i will not buy any fiat. well till they give the option to order the fiat 500 diesel. i know most of americans don't care for the diesel engine. but i know what they can do for the wallet, at 60mpg and with practice up to 80 mpg.

Wow! 240hp out of the same internal engine-parts that bring you 160hp in the stock Abarth? I'm guessing they sacrificed a great deal of the engine's longevity, despite what Mr. Tallini said about the engine being designed for more power. I could see bumping up the turbo-boost a little to gain another 25 or 30 hp, but an additional 80 hp? That engine is just going to blow itself to smithereens after a few thousand miles. But it'll be damn fun to drive it while it lasts, I'm sure. :-)

We see no signs of a problem with this. that power is built in and we run the turbo at the actual number Garrett say is the sweet spot for it. The car does not even run a degree hotter than before.

they make good quality pieces but their horsepower rating are way over estimated. i had their entire engine setup and sold it.

Actually they do offer carbon brakes, pads actually great for track days. Not for the street. These specific abarths compete in road coarse races so they would normally run carbon fiber/semi metallic brakes to dissipate the hi heat when cornering. That's why he asked about it. They are not recommended to run on the street because they don't get hot enough during normal street driving.
