This stuff is priceless. Thank you so much for a fabulous video without music. Too bad it doesn't happen in America. These kind of races I would attend all I could-love the stuff. The cars are so beautiful and no damn computers.
They're no doubt benefiting from tires of modern composition, but I had no idea these 80 year old Voiturettes could boogie around a circuit like this! Amazing to see today. They must have been mind-blowing back in the 1930s. 02:59 - some major axle-hop on the black ERA O.O
Yep, frightening amount of rear axle tramp/oscillation on ERA's under hard braking. Most of the cutting edge technology was under the bonnet (hood!) and the chassis itself was 'a challenge'.
Even assuming I had the driving skills, I don't think I'd be too competitive racing one of those cars. Using my head as a roll bar would be out of my comfort zone!
They go into the races knowing that the cars they're driving all come from an era with minimal safety regulations; no roll bars, no seatbelts, etc. As a result they are all very careful to give each other plenty of space on overtaking. You won't see any dirty moves like you get in modern F1. Plus the circuit has much larger runoff areas, more paramedics, etc. compared to the circuits that were around when these cars were built. But for sure, it's a risk to race these old cars, and that's something none of the drivers will take lightly
Also no seatbelts. Safety back then was almost nonexistent! These drivers all have to be a little crazy to do what they do, but also fully respect each other on the track, give each other plenty of room, no dirty overtaking or defending manoeuvres etc. Plus the track itself has plenty more safety features than would've existed when these cars were built
