Picked up this exact car spec inside and out just over a month ago, 2017 energi, god I love this car!! I thought it looked great on video, but even better in person!! The interior! ❤️ im all smiles!!
Thank you. I have searched many videos on the fusion energy; after 3 part time days of research this has been the video I was looking for. These 2017 platinum fusions are on sale right now! 20,000 mi and only $16,000-$19,000. For as reliable of a platform as this seems to be, the fusion platinum energy is a steal at that price. Thanks for the content. Subbed.
Ford/Lincoln has cooled seats, not ventilated seats. There is a thermoelectric module in each front seat that cools the air being blown through the seat by a fan.
I just bought a CPO 19 fusion hybrid SE a week ago. Love it so far. I had a volt and loved it but kids had no room at all. I’m averaging 44.5 mpg in March. Drive economy most time and regenerative brake over 90% usually. Love all the standard safety things and kids love the room. Pretty impressed so far.
Thank you - excellent review, thorough with the details, and comprehensive in the broad comparisons. And as an engineer, you are clearly comfortable and competent with discussing the engineering details - bravo! I have a 2020 Fusion Titanium Plug-in Hybrid, and it has been the best all around vehicle I have ever owned. I only needed to lens the 2020 differences, which actually make an even stronger case than you make here (larger 9 kWhr battery, 26 mile range as per the EPA). Car and Driver called the Fusion “the mid level sports sedan that Aston Martin never built.” The darn thing just looks fast standing still! Keep up the good work…
Gorgeous car & after many reviews of this & other Energi videos, got one a week ago & could not be more pleased. Drives like a Cadillac with the fuel economy beating a Ford Fiesta. A no brainer!!!!
Great review of the ford fusion. I have a 2017 fusion SE 2.0 turbo and love it. Had to put a new engine in at 60k due to a know flaw, according to my local ford dealer service department. Still love the car and all it's options anyway....
I have a 2018 Energi platinum as well and I really love it. The ride is incredibly soft, it’s very quiet, and it has so many features! It did scare me a little bit since I had some really bad electrical issues a few months into owning it (I bought it used earlier this year) but Ford fixed it under warranty and so far so good although I do have a really bad rattle that just came up that I need to figure out. Overall though I love the car very much, I just used the autonomous parallel parking for the second time yesterday and it’s so cool and fun to use!!
@@WalkerKirchman hey I am looking to buy a 2017 FFH or energi can you tell me if you had any maintenance issues since then ? Transmission or electrical ?
I would skip the 2013-2016 Fusion Energi models and go to at least the 2017. I''m on the fence about Platinum vs Titanium though. This is a great video!
Thank you for the review of the Ford Fushion Energi. And the comparison with the Audi A3 eTron. I have both of these vehicles and like them both for different reasons. Which one is better? Time will tell. On a trip from Reno, NV recently, I got 92.4 mpg in the Energi. In a trip from Yosemite, in the e-tron, I got 53 mpg. With the increase in gasoline prices, hybrid is the way to go.
Can't wait for the release and your review on the Kia Niro hybrid and the later plugin. Head room should be excellent. Alex your reviews are also excellent!
I like how Ford is literally making a Fusion for almost every tastes; basic, luxury, hybrid, partial electric and even hot performance. The problem for the Energi as much as I like plug-ins is the smallish trunk and the optimistic pricing. Yes the PHEV rebates are there but I can imagine a lot of sticker shock when you spend ~$40k on a Ford.
It seems strange that at 5:00 the Prime is farther away from the Volt on the chart that you have than the Fusion. The delta between 0-60 time in EV vs hybrid mode with the Fusion is significantly larger than with the Prime and the EV range is lower. It seems to me like the Prime would be closer to the Volt than the Fusion, that is what I have found when driving each one at least.
MISTAKE in the list prices at 20:00, the Energi titanium is $32,000, not $42,000. The titanium is really nothing more than a fancy passenger seat; not worth $1000, not at all. Also, the $4007 tax credit on the Energi SE brings the price down to $27,118 (because of the tax on the $4007 credit), but e.g. in CA you'll pay an extra $360 in taxes on the $4007 federal subsidy, so you are getting a TON more money for just ~$2300 more.
Thanks for going into detail about the 0-60 acceleration. I was concerned about that stat in EV only mode, but it sounds like EV Auto will be a big help when getting onto the Interstate.
SS S totally agree - though Alex would get hands on a Pacifica but can wait if he gets the plugin for a review. So much for him to dig into on that car.
Your review helped me to decide on this car. A few comments after driving for a few months. The Platinum trim interior looks nice, but the front seats are just too narrow. The drive was comfortable enough during the test drive, but after a few weeks it became very noticeable to me that sitting in the driver's seat is like wearing a pair of shoes that are one size too small. I also own a Camry and that extra inch makes all the difference. I find myself in agony after more than 30 minutes of driving. Granted I am overweight (250# 5'10" tall) but I really did not expect this in the top level trim. The minor discomfort I felt at first, I thought would dissipate as the seat wore in a bit, but the reverse is true. Buyer beware. With all the wonderful bells and whistles this and any fully loaded new car may have, if the driver's seat is uncomfortable, you will have buyers remorse.
Watched in May 2020 after buying a 2017 a few days ago. I replaced a 2010 Focus with 196,000 miles so I am looking for tutorial videos! I wish reviewers reviewed base model cars, since most people do not purchase the more expensive models, but found this video somewhat helpful.
David Cuccia I have a Volt and would say the trunk is very useful. It's certainly better than the energi here (which I'm shopping for my wife). Chevy is very conservative in how they rate their trunks. The 10.6 cubic feet number is an absolute worst case.
David Cuccia As a side note, Toyota appears to be very aggressive on how they rate their trunk space. I did a side-by-side comparison of the Prius and Volt recently and found the trunks are much closer than the numbers would suggest. I pack my Volt full of stuff all the time and am amazed by how much I get in it. I also have averaged ~44 mpg on gasoline over its life, so it easily gets its numbers.
Awesome as always Alex! Lot's of A's LOL. My first disagreement with Alex is I think the Mazda 6 still looks better than this. Maybe in person or maybe the Fusion Sport looks sharp but i just think the Mazda 6 Really nailed it.
Alex I'm a longtime fan and subscriber. Am I missing a search feature where I can type in a car and only search only your reviews? I try this and seem to get every bozo with a cam and a car. The answer is probably obvious and you needn't be gentle in your reply! Thanks!
Ford really put their head up their ass by making the Fusion this nice. Literally, the Fusion's interior is nicer than any base model Lincoln. Why buy a Lincoln you have to pay thousands more for when you can get a better interior in a cheaper Ford?
FYI, Oregon has an interesting tax credit. The State of Oregon offers a $750 tax credit for a Level 2 240V home charging station, which covers about half the cost of the charger. This allows the home user to charge a car in about 2.5 hours, versus about 7 hours for the 120V charger that comes with many/most plug-ins.
Great review, I have one question. I have this exact model and year, and love it. However it has always charged to 28 or 29 miles EV range. Much greater than you state is possible. Is there possibly wrong with it? I'm not arguing with it doing so but I don't wish to damage. At 60,000 trouble free miles so far.
Paul Hendrickson I know I’m not Alex, but I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I drive a Chevy Volt and there are a lot of factors that affect EV range. 18 is about the average you could expect in this car nationwide for all temperatures, terrains, and speeds. My guess is that you live in a pretty temperate area where you don’t have to call on the heater that often. You may also be primarily driving in local sub-45 mph conditions. Both of these factors are very helpful to overall efficiency
Alex, Wonderful Review. I am moving from a 2010 Honda Insight to a 2017 Ford Fusion Energi Platinum. I am having little luck finding an Energi model in any trim in the Midwest (I am in St. Louis). I found 1 FFE platinum in Indianapolis. The "born on date" appears to be late May 2016. Question: Will the lithium ion battery go bad ("rot") sitting for six months on a dealer lot? I may be faced with considering a 7 month old FFE Platinum 50 miles away or a 3 week old FFE Platinum 300 miles away. I didn't even notice the leather wrapped dashboard on the platinum Fusion model. Beautiful! Sitting 6-9 months in the sun on a dealer lot can't be good for the leather though.. Thanks
I stand by my opinion that ford is really lacking in the plug in concept department. Every vehicle they offer just takes a base ICE model and stuffs a battery and an electric motor into it. The result has always been less electric range and less cargo capacity. even a 2011 volt produced 35 miles in electric only and is balanced overall (power from the drive modes) with good "hatch" space. The only benefit i see of this fusion is the larger rear seating if you needed to carry more than two adults frequently. But if thats the case, id imagine you might like more trunk space? also, that infotainment system looks straight out of the early 2000's
So when you go to replace the headlights on this vehicle, it can take multiple hours as you have to remove the bumper cover and lower valence. Add to this that you must remove the lower valence to do the oil, maintaining yourself is frustrating at best and infuriating most of the time.
Jeff Yu-Wei Lee Would make more sense to do. Kia Niro. Alex you do bet reviews on YT especially of complex car like hybrids, when you get Niro please ask for midrange model 2 or 3 model , if they will be like in UK
I agree, J-Mac. I went ahead and leased a black Energi Titanium last week, anyway. However, I improvised - I ordered the Thule aero roof rack kit and cargo carrier (which just came in today). I need my space. I figured I had to go this route.
I love your review, but I just can't get used to the intro music. It's unpleasant, and I really hope you can remove it or replace it with something more subtle. Thanks.
Such a big car but has less backseat legroom than a compact, These mid sized sedans are big for nothing. They should take some notes from the Accord and Passat.
Luvia Sama I think that Passat still has the biggest back seats in the mid sized category, that and the Accord. The new Sonata got more spacious in the back from last gen too. If you're 6 6 and can fit comfortably in the back then something's up with how Alex did it in this video lol. I always look for spacious backseats because I'll never know what family member or friend might need a ride somewhere and I wouldn't want them being cramped. When Alex went in the back it was a complete turnoff for me. I've seen reviews of the Lincoln Mkz and they've been saying the same thing with the head room and legroom since those 2 cars have the same interior volume.
bratinsane Every review I've seen the Passat has the most followed by the Accord and now the new redesigned Sonata. I don't know where the Altima falls in that category but it's a really big car and very spacious I've driven it and sat in the back as well.
Well this was before his official review cuz he only had a prototype. Afterwords it's been timed to do it under 13 secs. That aside, just use EV auto, and so in almost all cases it'd be in ev unless you want full power then it'll kick in gas.
If you race though every stoplight, perhaps the Fusion Sport V6 is more for you. Sticking it in EV mode is good for simply avoiding use of gas altogether. It has enough power for commuting duties.
Why does ford insist on keeping that ugly outdated antenna? Also it's embarrassing how little room rear passengers have in this car for a midsize sedan. A honda civic has way more room in the back.
