2018 Chevrolet Sonic: Review 

I've owned a 2013 LT 1.4 6 speed manual hatchback for about a year now. Amazing little car, does everything I need it to do and puts an enormous smile on my face every time I drive it.

I have a 2014 LT Hatch with the 1.4 Turbo and 6 Speed Manual that I bought new for $16.5k in 2014. Just turned over 60k miles on it and all is good - have a second set of wheels with Nokian winter tires, put a rear trailer hitch on and it's been doing well. A/C stopped working this week but hopefully it's a sub $200 fix. Since it's paid off, I have just liability insurance, about $30/mo. Gas cost with my 40mpg lifetime average and relatively low driving is just $60/mo. Nice low cost transportation for years to come - quite happy with it and I think it is aging well in terms of style.

Great review as always! Picked up a 2015 Red LS Hatchback 1.8 automatic with 5k miles (a repo/like new) and upgraded with custom alloy wheels and tint and blacked out badging all for under $11.5k last year. Love my ‘15 Chevy Sonic!!!!

I bought a 2018 Sonic LT RS sedan 1.8 liter, and love it.

I have the 2015 Sonic LT hatchback, have had it for 2+ years now. I still love it. Trouble free. Take care of it, it will take care of you. The feature I find myself most often thanking Chevy for is the hill assist as I live where you're always going up, or down. It's been invaluable at times! The only thing that I find disconcerting is that it is too light for winter driving, an easy fix though. I added 80 pounds of weight to the back, pretty much right over the tires and it's made a huge difference in stop-ability on slippery roads. Gas mileage is great, which is a good thing considering you may want to drive more often, just because this car is so much FUN to drive! In short, I love this car - she's a Keeper!!

Great review!!! I picked up the RS hatchback 2018 at the tail end of 2017 and I love my car like nothing I've ever loved before!! So much fun to drive and extremely comfortable to be in for extended periods of time. Feels like a drift car and acts like a rally car. I'm surprised I haven't been pulled over yet!! ;)

Can you add turbo from a Chevy Cruz 1.8L to a Chevy Sonic rs hatchback 1.8L ???

Anyone have an issue with the "service rear camera" at the top when first putting it into reverse? It disappears quickly though and everything looks fine while backing up.

I think you quoted the 0-60 on the 1.8 base engine. The 0-60 website quotes low 8 seconds for the 1.4 turbo manual.

Wish you would've reviewed a manual vs a automatic since you already reviewed a automatic one for 2017..

Can some one PLEASE answer a few questions. I have canadian 2017 sonic turbo LT new at dealer before it was bought dealer added 17 wheels. So does that mean I do not have the sport suspension ? Also according to my car features and Canadian brochure only sedan gets heated steering wheel. Why. Exact same looking steering wheel. And seem videos when car is turned on by remote the check Mark shaped light on each head light comes on and flickers. My just comes on solid. I have the factory window sticker and dealer printed out details on my car. No info on any of these three topics.

This must be THE only car sold in the US where the automatic transmission equipped versions get WORSE fuel economy. But at least the automatic transmission is not a CVT or a bad example of a dual clutch automated manual like the Ford small cars. BTW, a Sonic Premier with a manual transmission must be a true automotive unicorn as an LT or an LS is very hard to find with a manual transmission.

I bought a 2017 Sonic RS LT. I love the car. One thing that I don't like is gas mileage is off from what is stated by Chevrolet. This is compounded by a very small gas tank. One other thing, you cannot opt for a heated steering wheel on the RS hatchback. I think it is rather dumb that the car has heated seats but does not have a heated steering wheel and you cannot get one.(hatchback only).

Should i get this or a yaris ia

Not sure why there is a 9.7 rated for 0-60. My 2014 with the same 1.4L turbo is rated at 7.8 seconds.

For a little more you could get a lot more car with the Cruze. And I'm sure the Cruze holds it's value better. I like the Sonic Sedan better than the hatch. Holy crap a 4 cylinder automatic only getting 25-27 mpg around town? That's pathetic.

Here in Mexico this car was discontinued, now we have the 2018 Chevrolet Cavalier, yes, a 2018 Chevy Cavalier, but this "new" car comes with a 1.4 Litre naturally aspired engine, 5 speed manual or 4 speed auto transmission, the info-entreteamient system is a small 4.0" non-touch screen with horrible image quality, is built a designed in China, is just a crappy Chinese car with Chevy badges

Disappointed to see that they went away from the digital speedometer. I think that was one of the cooler things about the car.

Eh screw it! Might as well get a Cruze Hatch. More room, better fuel mileage, more horsepower, and more torque. Yeah it’ll cost more but it’s so worth it
