The Toyota Prado is one of Australia's most popular 4WDs and surely a Chinese rival can't compete? Well, the Haval H9 surprised everyone in this test - but can it beat the reigning champ? video review 2018 toyota
We bought H2 Lux had it a year now....and we love it! Replaced my wife’s great but old KIA Rio hatch. Compared to the Rio it’s like the Starship Enterprise, the wife is still learning how to use all the on board kit! I find it very comfortable on a long trip. I own a lovely 2000 Mercedes E240 Wagon, it’s in great condition and is still a fantastic car, but l really enjoy it when I drive the Haval. I think it’s a great looking little SUV and the big 18” alloys fill the wheel arches nicely. Very happy and I think we got a huge amount of bang for our hard earned bucks!
Had a test drive with a sydney rep., i used to be a toyota salesman, so Im familiar with their SUVs, plus we have an in law who has a GXL prado, so fair to say that at 45K vs 80K , even if they say that 0-zero resale value which is far from the truth, Haval still wins. Luxurious in and out..
Haval is pretty new. It's not old enough to have a true resale history. Give it minimal time to build its rep before jumping to bigot speculations, that was also quite rampant on korean cars when they started.
Relax guys, I made a conscious decision and bought my Haval with my own money, im just saying that it has exceeded my expectation. If you dont like Haval or maybe not comfortable with the idea of buying a Chinese branded car yet, then you just dont buy it, nobody is forcing you, at the end of the day its your money and you do you. Have a nice day!
@@timreynolds6007 No idea what you bought but Haval has been China's best selling SUV brand for a number of years in a row, reliability is great according to consumer feedback.
@@timreynolds6007 I rate legendary Land Cruiser better than all competitors but Haval is also pretty good. Not to tell you that it was a huge success in World largest automobile market
I've been driving GWM & Haval for the last 8-9 years. If installments are an issue why pay more? Toyota comes a long way and I own one but Haval has introduced something new, something fresh!
@@luiss5648 Agreed, but I guess after 5 years you could buy a new Haval again for 45k and still sell your old one for at least half or more than what you bought it for.
That's a good effort for the Chinese car! Looks nice and nice interior. Give it a few years and they will be able to match off road to. My cruiser is now 25 years old and still runs great, need to see how the Haval do a few years done the line for reliability. Good effort though and the price is certainly attractive and it has more than enough ability for most 4X4 drivers.
DOBERSTAFFIE you can Bay range rover jeep Mercedes gelendewagen BMW x5 audi q7 and another suv Therese arena alle crap Compare too Toyota landcruser. Toyota is te best car maker inn the world is a fact.
Es increíble lo que ha logrado Haval en tan corto tiempo pues ingresar a un mercado exigente y voraz como el australiano no es tarea fácil y lo ha hecho bien. Saludos desde Ecuador.
It depends where you live. Not many in Melbourne will venture onto true 'off road'. If you live in Townsville, Alice Springs or Tennant Creek and gnarly off road is your hobby, the choice would be the big 'T'.
at the same time, you won't be allowed to fit 6 in your 5 seats car, but you can fit 7 in a haval 9 legally. those two extra seats not for everyday use. but they are there when you need them. for short distance maybe.
Go off-road out in the desert with a 2 ton camper in the Haval and if it comes back intact lol than i’ll choose it in my opinion is a great suv overall for urban areas
Towed a 18 ft. caravan from Cairns to Ayres Rock and came back via Adels Grove with a Haval 9. over 200 klms of rocky road and one puncture from original shit highway tyres. You can stick your Prado where it fits best. Love our auto 8 speed gear box on the Haval 9.
I think if I lived the the city then I would definitely get the h9, but if you are out bush like me there is no comparison for a landcruiser even if it is only a prado😜
In my opinion Toyota is known for their reliability, and China is known for their mass production. The electric parking brake is the big deal breaker as well as the touchy transmission for the Haval and for my knowledge the LandCruiser Prado Kakadu has power third row seats. I don't really care about the luxurious interior of the Haval although the 2010 Kakadu has a nicer center console. I'd still choose the Prado or any LandCruiser.
Wait until the Nio ES8 is available here and not just tested in Australia. Then we can do a test with a premium Chinese vehicle against Jag iPace or other premium SUVs (electric or otherwise).
@@hujiaming6151 Diesel and Petrol are quite similar in Aus. Diesel is more efficient than gas, Diesel is safer and easier to find in rural Australia. Please go away Chinese 50 cent army.
Haval had a diesel H9 but they shelved it. They sold them in Russia for a while but figured it wasn't worth it. It had really similar performance to the petrol and not much difference in fuel consumption. Their plan is to jump straight into hybrids and EVs as soon as the trend starts. Which will be interesting to see for large vehicles. Especially when it comes to towing.
@@ismailtopa3671 my brother lives in China, he bought a haval h6 when?it first cane out, and it still runs like a deer after all my brother's years if heavy duty use.
Haval spends half cost to gain the most function of a major Australian car, I am wondering how better performance a full price of Chinese vehicle can do? I always image, we only pay very little for a Chinese product, how the quality will be if we pay the same price?
low cost production in China, everything in Japan is much more expensive. u r paying Japanese dealership, advertisement and Japanese worker retirement plan as well.
Xiaomi wasn't a name years ago in smartphone market.Neither Huawei.Look at them now.The Chinese can produce really nice products with a really impressive bang/buck ratio
Which version of the Prado are you driving here? For $63000 you barely make it past a GX, let alone a GXL. Neither of those have leather, heated seats or radar cruise. To get that you need either a VX or Kakadu, both are well into the $70000 even $80000. Yes the Prado has the better engine, rep and off road reliability. But 75% (perhaps even more) of Prado owners don’t do more than the occasional beachy or dirt road. If you want luxury, space, 7 seats and an occasional trip into the country the Havel is the more rational choice. There is always bias and yes the Prado is a better car, but I’d rather save $40000.
I’m not sure what car he was driving in this but the Haval I found to be very sluggish with the turbo petrol. The Prado even though has less power I find the torquey diesel a lot better to drive. Please note I own none of these cars, but have driven both and Prado is where my money would go
I'll take the Haval H9 for the interior and its turbocharged petrol engine. Not to mention our former Pajero's V6 lack of low end torque compared to any equvilient European turbocharged (like) engines.
Ken Ezos they’ve got ridden of its issues back in 2013, and this engine produces a sufficient amount of torque to haul a fully loaded prado towing another fully loaded prado And in some countries the legendary 4.0L v6 is still available
I don't get how people argue one vehicle is better than another, without driving them? For me, precision, steering and handling count. Both are pretty aweful, compared to any car. However, the constant correction of steering in the Haval gets tiring and old fast. Could be easily corrected with a tighter rack and increased caster (centring).
That's what y'all said when the Japanese car manufacturers first began selling in Australia. So I'll give it a few years and y'all will be driving these Chinese cars everywhere
@@stevensudragor DJI has been banned by a heap of Government agencies around the world due to the "spying" chips that have been found on they silicon boards. The Australian Army had to have theirs reprogrammed and modified in the sake of national security. So why are the scumbags spying on us?
@@Maccat source?? According to abc video that is very biased. They still admit that there was zero evidence of spying but only risk was that they were Chinese and that's it. Basically just concern and no proof. They hate the fact that the number one drone maker is now Chinese. 😏 Beside, as long as you have a secure network and the Drone has no backdoor. It's perfectly safe. The Australian defence force did a 2 weeks review and later continued to use the dji drones as they found no proof or danger that it was compromised. Use RU-vid and go to the biased abc video and not once do they have proof or evidence. Instead they express sour disappointment when the aus army thoroughly tested the drones and decided to continue haha 😋
why keep saying it's clearly a rip off? they look very much different to me, it's as different as a Ford to a Toyota... of course there will be similarities, but what do you expect.. they are both similar type of cars.. so of course there will be similar features and designs.
Accidentally forgot to turn my rear diff lock back on after stopping the engine and I was really impressed with the handling of our Haval 9 in loose sand on the beach with near worn out highway tyres in 2 wheel drive high range mode.
Jesus Christ if the Chinese are going to imitate a Prado you know it’s already going to smoke it . It’s like buying a fake pair of Nikes and while I’m at it lets take both up to the remote Kimberly and see which one gets you home
@@khsh99 well , u have to pay 18000 more upfront. after ten years 18000 is not that same money ten years ago! and that 18000 may get u other good stuff in that 10 years. so do the math!
I had Chinese car before, the only thing that I could fault and mostly similar with all Chinese cars is the underpowered engine beside that everything else was perfect.People need to change their attitudes towards Chinese stuff, I hear many complain without even owing one, if you can afford 90k, be my guest , I call it Toyotasim.
Yeah I’m amazed at the prejudice! What really annoys me is it will probably put off a buyer on a tight budget, from buying what is a great SUV. That’s a pity. We have had our H2 Lux for a year now and we love it! Fantastic comfort on a long trip.
BS, i owned Camry, its cheap, suspension sucks. dose not run straight even when new, went back to dealership for alignment and still not quite straight, sold it after
Actually, you don't need to go all the way to 4.5 V8 1VD, just replace with the 8-speed transmission from Lexus LX & Pajero Sport ( My opinion same as yours ), it's 3x more reliable than 6-speed ( Even though both are Aisin )
Quiet surprised at how Chinese products are winning the hearts of people. Comment section use to be full of hate comment for Chinese cars, it's changed lately
I do think a lot of people are easily led by car interior designs. I dont really care what the interior is like, so long as the experience of driving the car as a whole is satisfying. Too much obsession with quality of materials, soft touch, the latest so called must have gadgets, most of them pointless (lane departure warning, adaptive this that or the other, sensors for god knows what else), people rely on that kind of crap too much. In 2018 there are no bad cars, in the way there were in the 1970s. Only difference is price. They will all get you from A to B in different levels of comfort but the point im making is, expectations with cars are far too high these days, and the manufacturers know that given a choice between two brands, customers will pick one over the other simply because one has a slightly bigger touch screen etc. Its all bullshit, and the fools will pay for it. Haha. As for these two cars, in the UK we only have the Toyota and its an awesome, tough, comfortable long lasting car.
