2020 Hyundai Palisade | Go Big Or Go Home

Hyundai has had three row crossovers before, but they were nothing like the Palisade. This new crossover is the biggest and most luxurious CUV/SUV that Hyundai has ever built. With nearly 8 inches more legroom than a CX-9 or Highlander and class leading cargo capacity, the Palisade is the large-and-in-charge crossover big families are looking for. On the inside we see Hyundai's latest design themes and premium materials which makes the price tag all the more surprising. Although the Palisade is bigger and has more features than a Honda Pilot, it's notably less expensive. Oh, and it has a long warranty. If you're 3-row shopping, the new Palisade has to be on your shopping list.

Telluride or Palisade? (Or Atlas). Discuss....
@mrchenla1
@mrchenla1 5 лет назад
Alex, I like The rugged look of the Telluride but it is hard trying to get the prestige model right now. I stopped by HYUNDAI and test drove the Palisade and waiting for the dealer to call me when they have the one I like. And I wish Hyundai offer red leather seats interior here in the state. I guess I'm gonna end up with the ivory one.

I like the look of the Telluride. In Canada to get self leveling you need to go up to the too trims with 7 passenger seating. But I want the 8 because if the kids bring a friend they need to go third row. And I lose half my cargo area. The Palasade allows me to get self leveling in 8 passenger. I have a 4000lb boat.

After hard negotiations from 4 dealerships, We finally picked up the Limited Palisade this weekend. As we were picking it up, there were 3 families waiting in line to steal our SUV if we didn't go through with it. I tell ya what, it's a hot seller right next to the Telluride (1 month back order). It tells you something, the Koreans nailed this SUV on the mark. The SUV is simply amazing inside and out. Also, the MPG's are MUCH higher then rated by the automaker. We're getting 23 City and almost 31mpg on highway speeds of 55-65 speeds. We're coming from a 2015 Highlander where we had 24mpg Highway and terrible city. What a difference and the 3rd row seating is actually practical! Couldn't be happier

@@Lj22 Thank you for this feedback. I bought a 2015 sonata 2.0 ultimate and its been a horrible experience. The steering wheel and the transmission has huge issues. One always gets the feeling that the car is not aligned when one drives it and the transmission in lower gear is awful to say the least. There is always a jerk and leap kinda experience. Horrible experience. They lure you with supposedly good looking vehicles. However the drive experience and the overall quality is subpar. I wouldnt spend 50K on a HUN or KIA. I'd rather add another 10K and go with a another brand with quality or spend the same amount with lesser options on another quality brand.

Hyundai/Kia are not messing around anymore with their products. I am very happy to see them finally get their act together on the SUV side. With offerings like the G70, Stinger, forthcoming GV80 and refreshed G90, nobody should be laughing at them anymore. I LOVE the interior of the Palisade. For a while there, Kia was supposed to be the more luxury/sporty entrant for the brand, but the Palisade definitely looks flagship worthy. Unfortunately, I do not believe the front styling of this vehicle will age well, as witnessed by the 2014-17 Jeep Cherokee and other vehicles that have had the bisected headlamp look. I would take the Telluride over this if for long-term viability.

In comparisons of the Telluride and Palisade one point often goes unmentioned. The Telluride was largely designed in California and is produced in KIA's West Point, GA plant. It is aimed squarely at the North American market. In fact it is currently on sale only in the US and Canada. The Palisade is built in Korea and sold in a variety of international markets, most notably in Korea and China where sales opportunities are abundant and expanding rapidly. The "rugged" image of the Telluride is very appealing to mainstream American consumer while a "luxury" image has huge appeal in markets where mass affluence is a recent phenomenon and demonstrating it in the form of a vehicle choice is extremely popular. (The Chinese and other Asian markets have had quite enough of "rugged" lifestyles often through no choice of their own.)

There is no way a VW Atlas looks as good as a Palisade or is anywhere near as luxurious. But the Atlas is very roomy and practical. I love the Telluride and now that I've seen your video in 1440P, I noticed a lot more exterior styling detail on the Palisade that I really like. It looks good. Hyundai and Kia have really upped their game in the crossover market. The styling/design team at Hyundai did a fantastic job in styling the Palisade and Telluride. But that 2020 Ford Explorer ST looks good too and has outstanding performance. There is so much competition in this segment.

Kia and Hyundai generally make "shiny" interiors that look good but aren't of higher quality than those of other vehicles. Especially things like the metal looking painted plastic switches in the center console look good in videos but that's about it. Not saying their interiors are bad but they just know how to wow the average car buyer better than others. Personally, I don't like the boring gauges, but that's more of a design thing, not a quality thing. They look like the gauges of pretty much any other luxury car. Uninspired...

It'll be between the Palisade or the Santa Fe Ultimate, although she'll take a decrease in cargo space with the 2019 Santa Fe. The wife is only 5' tall and has trouble finding SUV's that she can reach the pedals on without being smashed against the steering wheel. We've had 2 Santa Fe's, a Veracruz, and an Azera sedan since 2007. The Palisade is slightly bigger than the 2008 Veracruz which ended it's life upside down in a creek bed 8 months after we bought it. So I'm not sure if she wants that big a vehicle again. For some reason Hyundai's seem to fit her much better than other brands. In 2014 we looked at 5 other mid size SUV's and only the Hyundai would work for her. And we're also older, no kids in the house but the wife hauls a lot of gear to her Quilting Events.

Recently (two weeks ago) purchased a 2022 Palisade Calligraphy AWD: but there are still some areas for product improvement: add power folding exterior side mirrors, add sunglass holder in interior and add illumination for the overhead light buttons above driver and front passenger (the POI buttons are illuminated but the light buttons aren't, that's odd and an omission in form/function) and those rims on calligraphy trim are a bit 'loud', design something more classy the ones on current and previous Limited trim); and last but not least, consider adding hybrid powertrain as is offered on many other Hyundai products.

Palisade is my preference, sits closer to the ground and is narrower than the Telluride. I also like the fact that they come with auto leveling rear suspension as standard equipment.

Alex, you’ve driven both the Palisade and Telluride, which one would you prefer as a daily vehicle?

It takes almost a year to get this on your garage if you contract today here in Korea. This one is such a big hit here. Hoping supply chain turns better in the states.

Alex did you see how many latch anchors for car seats are present in both the SEL and top trim?

The Palisade has a nice luxurious design with apparently lots of very good features including comfort. For the money in the mid-$30's, the SEL seems to be the most attractive. I don't know if I would spend $46k on a Limited, although beautiful, but depreciation might be quick and would make it seem irrational to spend the money. But the SEL seems to be a very good buy.

when will you have a full update on the Hyundai Palisades??

I’ve been excited for this for a while. I really love the way the Palisade, and many modern Hyundais look. I do prefer the Santa Fe styling though. I kinda wish they had used the same fascia. I’m not much of a fan of how the Telluride looks. I don’t think their grill goes well with a boxier vehicle. Kia sedans and smaller crossovers look good, but the Telluride just doesn’t wear the face as well

Hey Alex, would it be possible to have some units in metrics?

We looked at both the Palisade and the Telluride this week. Decided to purchase the Palisade. My (some may say shallow) subjective reasons are; The 2 cup holders in each of the second row doors instead of 2 on the back of the front console, I didn’t like the side body base of the Telluride, and I prefer the touch screen display placement on the Palisade. During the test drives they rode and handled the same, both better than my Toyota.

I just don't like the front end of the Palisade the Telluride front end looks a lot better but Palisade interior is more luxurious

Agreed. I'm glad that it's not just me. At first I thought I was for sure on board for the Telluride, but then I started to realize the differences between them, and even though I seriously hate the Hyundai flying H badge, I have come around to wanting the Palisade. The back of it looks very good, no problem, and the front I don't really like but I think that I can deal with it. And I've discovered that there is an alternate badge that you can get for Hyundai. The towing package comes with the limited trim no extra charge, and I'm not sure it may come standard on all the trims but you have to pay extra for it on all trims of the Telluride. Palisade has puddle lights on the mirrors... no puddle lights period on the Telluride.

13:36 Tach moves counterclockwise... is that unusual/weird? 13:42 Tach on lower trims moves clockwise.
