Damn right about under 4000RPM. I’ve just done 1000km on my Duke 390 and it’s the same. However it’s easy to adjust to and it’s so fun. I’m thinking of picking up either the 390 adventure or 790 Adventure R tomorrow. Thanks for the review.
Good review mate. Keep us updated on how it goes. Would love to here what it’s like off road and particularly how comfortable it is to ride while standing up.
no issues at all apart from the rider having no experience on dirt....lol it starts and goes every time no drama and if it did have issues I would have sold it by now. its really is a nice looking bike with good power and fun to ride
Just bought the 2024 model, I wouldn’t take it off road until I’ve had it mapped, as you would burn the clutch out due to slipping it because it’s gutless up to 4000 revs
lost the camera one day on this and the camera mount on the handlebars the next day. nothing to do with the bike. old age and straight out carelessness on my behalf or total stupidity...lol
Warro LOL. the KTM 390 Adventure Looks appealing as a quality “lightweight” second machine. my fully loaded Africa Twin with auxiliary camel gas tank, crash bars, cases is an elephantine 600 pounds. Take car good sir.
Great review mate! Let us know how it goes on those dirt roads? Honest review. Take care & enjoy. Why did you choose this bike over say the 790 Adventure?
I looked at the 790 while I was at the dealer and asked the price. I think he said roughly A$23k ride away. I looked back at this for $9k and thought it almost looks like a 790 -so it will do....lol dealer also had the 1290 in stock but I don't think the 390 looks like that...lol I sat on that particular bike and it appears huge! 390 is roughly the same size as the Himalayan I had but 30 kgs lighter with much smoother body lines and not as near well fed as the previous two 500x's which appear more bulky to sit on. apart from that the 500x-are still very good bikes.
Warro it’s looks to be a great bike for the price anyway! Us Aussies get rolled when it comes to euro bikes. Do you mind me asking your age range? The reason I’m asking is the older I get, the less riding I do which means a bike for under 10 grand is getable & won’t break the bank. Just wish KTM would offer spoked wheels as standard. Keep us posted!🏍💯🥇👌
Thanks for taking the time to discuss this bike...been looking into possibly pulling the trigger on one. What’s your take on the fact the foot pegs are angled downward? All the other reviews I’ve seen say they push you too far forward when you’re standing off road
my thoughts are if its this or a cb500x they both have similar issues in that area. all i can say is for the price its a pretty good value bike and the only real type off off road bike to compete i think is the cfr300l but saying that on the sealed stuff this bike would run rings around one of those and run with a 650 with the 47t rear sprocket
tubeless - if one was planning to dirt road/track it I think front or rear cog swap or both. on the highway you can get away with it as its as fast or faster than my 650 and handles better too
Hi, so where to start, I am getting into the motorcycle world and I've narrowed it down to 3 bikes I like a lot. The Suzuki V-Strom 250, Kawasaki Versys 300 and the KTM 390 Adventure. My question is... which of these is a smoother ride? Which one does the motor vibrate less? I mean what would you recommend. I am not muscular, I'm a skinny athletic man. I weigh about 170 pounds so I saw the specs on each and actually already went and sat on the KTM and I felt like a had great control over it but haven't ridden any. The V-Strom weighs 188 kgs, the Kawasaki 175 kgs and the KTM 158 kgs. It would be of great help if you can respond. Thank you very much.
I looked at the vstom and walked away. I read it was a bit vibey too but it just didn't appeal to me. I had the Kawasaki versys 300 good bike a lttle bit vibey but the hardest seat I have ever sat on. my review is here on the tube. I bought it when it was first released my pick is the ktm. its a great bike as an over-all package with plenty of riding safety features and good value for money. what I cant say is how reliable it is as I don't really know but so far I am ver pleased with it. very little vibe-good power-excellent handling-great safety features. very hard to beat and good fuel economy. plus I think a good looking bike.
the 500x if you go 019 onwards as the features are far improved on previous models but saying that if you want better handling and a more spirited ride I think you'd have more fun on the 390
this ktm will outperform the classic 350 reborn in all areas but i still have a soft spot for the classic 350-ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aru-91nDnCI.html
the 500x was a good bike.-I had thoughts of buying another as ive already had two prior-018 and 019 - big improvement there. but the 020 is the same as the 019 and $600 more and same colour too. guy who actuall bought mine now has 14000 klm no trouble and still very happy. I will try another one but i have to see something like an upgrade.
that would depend upon where you reside. i think in aust the 490 will come in around $2k more than the 500x could be wrong but i think it will around the 12k mark
Curious to hear your thoughts on how it would've compared to the ol' cb500x. Peak power seems comparable despite the smaller displacement and single cylinder.
pretty hard call really. I think the ktm is probably a little more highly strung where the 500x is more relaxed ride. I think once I hit 1000klm on the clock and first service complete and I can rev past 6000 to 10000 it will even be more so...lol now sitting on both bikes you immediately feel/see the size weight difference. the 500x appears and feels a bit porky where the ktm is more compact and I feel more agile and easier to move about. I think this is where it shows as I think the 018 500x I had felt bigger than the 019 I bought last year. if can get that new front sprocket on the bike during first service an re-o a test I will tell you outright which bike I like the best
not at this stage- actually thought the clutch action is pretty good really and if so I would have picked it up. the main area for concern to me has been the dead 0 to 4000 rev range in all gears but apart from that all good. have you experienced such?
ive had a few bikes but not the 310 -although I did think about one once. I think if you tossed the coin this bike would be the better bet. it ticks all the boxes and once I get the sprocket change done I think it will improve the off road - especially in the low down power range under 4000 revs
I bought an adventure a 3 days back put 1000kms on it and absolutely love it great fun bike to ride. I agree with all of the comments good review ...I bought mine and had the 14 tooth front sprocket fitted and it does fix the issue down low and the acceleration is fantastic and holds it’s own above a 100km/h...
I have had a g310gs for over two years. I'm still happy with it but I reckon it is tame in comparison. I did a test ride on duke 390 before buying my bike. You can definitely say the ktm motor pulls a lot harder.
I was on the bike today and noticed it showing 14.7v on start up which would indicate a very healthy battery to me. if around 12v or under...problems ahead. good idea to run a battery tender I you don't ride the bike that much. keeps the battery fully charged and avoids problems
@@alfredoavalos457 no comparison- himalayan is just a bike-the 390 is a very good bike in all areas and will run with a 650 interceptor-i know i have one.
Hello, very Good channel, do you think enfield himalaya 2020 engine is as good as the interceptor? Thinking of purchase Himalaya But you say 650 is better motor...
i actually think the 650 interceptor has a far superior motor than the Himalayan after owning both BUT if you want to do a bit of dirt road and tack the Himalayan is the bike. if you do all sealed roads -buy the interceptor as its a good trouble free bike - or mine is
@@DudesatRC I actually had the 250 rally when it was first released and didn't like it much. only rode it 130 kl and sold it. I would go ktm 390 and shortly I will be testing this bike with another new sprocket so it should be interesting
Warro ok, i testdrive the ktm 390 adv. Yesterday and was very satisfied, compare to my vstrom 650 i had before. Like the light weight and feel comfortable. Just currious about the quality of ktm But Maybe there is as good as any other bikes. Maybe i buy One.
I'm in NW USA.....have a 2019 390.....it seems to like 70/72-75 MPH (what is that......120-125 kmph or so...???)....it'll do it......but I don't recommend more than 45min./1 Hr., out on the freeway.....it will hang with bigger bikes on the highway....I rode with some cruising bikes last summer, for almost an hour.....I WAS WORE OUT...the bike, seemed to handle it, but it's a "thumper", or a single cylinder, so I expected the vibration at higher rev's.....but I'm an older guy, and 5'8"...haven't been riding for 20 or so years.....a bit a few years back on a dirt bike, but that's it, since my street racing days, and turbo 1100 crotch rocket....it's great for in town, or a jump on the highway, to get to the fishin'/camping spot....jump off the highway, hit the menu, and hit off-road....ride maybe 10 miles to a lake.....I would not do that, on my Sabre Cruiser.....have 2 bikes now (when you don't have a girl, ya got more $$$$), but the riding season in Montana is 4-6 Months, give or take....the little 390 DUKE is just.....FUN.....think of it, like a late 60's/early 70's Muscle car....0-60 (or 0-100) is just over 4 seconds, from a dead stop.....if ya need to pass a truck, then resume 75 MPH or so, no worries.....it is light, like 370 lbs. or so, wet.....ya gotta be prepared if/when a truck passes yee.....and stay out of their draft, or wind off the semi-trailers, or at least be ready for it....the 300 Honda (CB300R...???)....is MUCH more comfy, but not as...."ballsy"....but perfectly capable, of eating 2-lane blacktops....I'd rather be on the 300R on the highway, than the duke, but once off the highway, it's over....both are good bikes, but like the honda guys said....if ya got any experience, get a bigger bike....nothing wrong with the Honda, and they are damned sure reliable....we'll see how my DUKE is....it's coming up on it's 4500 Mile service I think...I put almost 3700 miles on it this past summer...had 203, or 302, miles on ith when I got it.....a guy bought it, and rode it that far, and got the 690 DUKE, and traded this one in.....I was lookin' for a bike, and had bought the Sabre Cruiser, but it wasn't properly stored, and Carbs/maint/other service needed, so it went to the shop....and I rode this maybe 10-12 miles, and bought the damned thing.....Uncomfortable stock, but DAMNED FUN to ride.....my 1100 Sabre Cruiser, is a Cadillac....but it's more suited for the highway, and trips....which I will do this summer......390 DUKE is a good buy, for whatcha get.....Honda is more reliable.....the Enfield is better suited off the road, but will roll down the highway....they got a 400 or something....rode one last year.....not as ballsy, but easier to ride.....glad I'm back ridin' again....well...not right now....it's winter here in Montucky (AKA< Montana)....
@@ridewithwarro yeah mate they have managed to keep the price low which is good for the beginners. Not sure how I feel about a single pot touring bike though
I only go on short runs say from 50 to 300 klm. that's the local area I run the bikes on. never really been further than that in a day or longer overnight trips. well not on a bike for 40 years...lol and I don't expect that to happen again..lol
@@ridewithwarro I intend to do a lap of Australia in 2 stages, start in Perth because my cousin lives there and round the bottom up to Brisbane, the next year from Brisbane around the top back to Perth, Dad was from Brisbane and the oldest of nine who children are spread all across Australia so loads of accomodation possibilities. But like you I have never done a big trip on a bike, can't get much bigger than round Australia lol
I don't know... I was interested but had a look at it at the dealer and it simply does not have the same quality as the japanese bikes. It may work well anyway but it's not for me.
@@ridewithwarro Well the oil strainers on these on first service usually has so much crap in them you wonder how it is put together. Never seen that on a japanese bike ever. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SrrrEwSCY_k.html
