Roush driver here… thank you very much Sam and Dane for this race. Must say that Dane’s Hellcat is the scariest car I’ve driven so far… impressive!!! Love for everybody and haters… please, just enjoy the video lol
Next time you should start with the manual shifting to get into gear then switch to auto immediately. Using shifters on a 10speed doesn’t do it justice. You’ll feel the difference brother👍🏼
I had a stock 18 Hellcat Charger and I currently have a 19 Roush Stage 3 Mustang and anytime I ran the Mustang against my Hellcat the Mustang won every single time in a dig or roll and both cars were on drag radials. My Roush was on the Phase 1 calibration at the time which was 710hp/610tq. Now I’m on the Phase 2 calibration at 750hp/670tq like this car in the video and those races were way too close for that. I suspect that Hellcat is not stock or just some poor driving not knowing how to utilize the 10 speed in the Mustang.
It's governed to 155. Got to have a tunner remove it. Comes that way from Ford factory. I own one with roush r2650 stage 2 2020 750 hp 670 lb-ft torque. Cannot go over 155.
Truth. Roush has always been ultra conservative with their tunes. I can't count how many supercharged Roush cars and trucks I've seen get custom dyno tunes and pick up another 10-15% horsepower. I guess if you're going to give a 3-year warranty on your product, you're going to tune it for the absolute worst case scenario.
The Hellcat it's 860HP.. 🤷🏻♂️ Only reason the Roush gets ahead is because it's lighter.. Anyways that car is fast! Even on HP Disadvantage it takes off like there's no tomorrow..
@@IranAir12 they make the power they say they do, they just don't have the best cooling setup. They can run 10.8s on a prepped quarter mile but run slower times in back to back pulls. This one handled the heat pretty well, usually the heatsoak slows them down a lot after a couple of pulls. For this being a stock Roush setup on the Roush tune, it did really well. Their tunes are slowly getting better, I'm running their most recent revised calibration and it blows the last one out of the water. They need to get the heat under control to start actually being competitive.
@@cooperlueck they're very reliable. The Roush tuning is conservative and shift points are just over 7k instead of 7400. The only issue with mine is that it might have messed up one of my cats, no internal issues though.
@@gummybear41283 Vortech / Paxton are excellent options if you like centrifugal blowers. Whipple and VMP are excellent PD blowers. The roush 2.3 used on the 15-17 Gen 2 coyote was a great blower. The Gen 3 coyotes have the DI so there is less room for a blow down Intercooler design but Roush still stuck with a blow down design. Thay had to make the Intercooler smaller. I personally have VMP gen2r on my 17 GT.
guys need to switch lanes...That hop at the 3/4 mark makes a difference you can clearly see the advantage by a 1/2 car length. Great video...I always look forward to them.
Great race, I would have thought you would’ve had a lot of tire spin but you guys laid it down nicely. How about those two cars vs the 2021 Cadillac CT5 Blackwing.
@@jamesdyer3507 it would lose. Because it loses against the Gt500 as these 2 barely lose against the Gt500. It is a super nice Caddy tho. I have seen a Taurus SHO almost beat a Blackwing. Even a Marauder was on the back doors of a Blackwing. That is 1 heavy Gran Marque on drugs. Stock on stock.
Good runs and great driving by the guy in the Hellcat. I far too often see owners blowing the tires off the rims on launch, but this guy held it together with every run. I always cringe when I see Roush cars in a comparison, because I automatically know its going to fall on its face at half track. Roush is famous for pulling a "ton" of timing out of the top end of their ECU tunes. They do it to account for poor fuel quality (or the owners that are too cheap to run premium fuel), since they're offing a 3-year warranty on their product. Every single Roush car/truck I've seen get a custom tune, has picked up a solid 10-15% increase across the board. Still...it is what it is.
Thanks for this Video . We own Roush Stage 3’s and I’ve wondered how these two cars compared to each other. Now then , Please Please do the same thing with the 2021 Roush Stage 3 against the 2021 Shelby GT 500 . The HP is only 10 different but the Torque is 45 difference. I’ve been looking for a video on this but only find the RS3 up against an older GT500 . I’m betting other Roush owners like me want to see this race .
I’ve a q60 red sport thats tuned by AMS (red alpha stage 3 kit), its got about 470 whp, let me know if you wanna race it! (Runs 11.5 at the quarter mile)
Love both cars but rooting for the Mustang. On a different note though looking forward to seeing some races between the 21/22 Elantra N Line vs 22 Civic Si or Elantra N vs Veloster N
@@15thelongway are you a dolt? Look if you get a wet spot in your panties for big burly V8’s… good for you, the Veloster/Elantra N’s are almost type R level, and any off those cars would demolish these big V8’s in a short closed course race.
Awesome race!!! Like the Roush stafe 3 it was under-rated it was aways GT500 vs hellcat but now finally Roush stage 3. Now that Roush stage 3 raced a hellcat it's time to meet a GT500!!! LET'S GO ROUSH!!!
Can’t believe the price for the Roush Stage 3 but you pay for the name. Great races! I am going to miss the sound of V8’s. My kids sadly enough will never enjoy the beauty of these machines.
Just put a Roush Supercharger on a brand new mustang. Was under $50k with wheels tires, suspension, exhaust, and car. After I break it in going to get it tuned to hopefuly 850hp crank HP. Pretty good bargain of performance
@@utahcountypicazospage5412 Spent alot of time behind a newer roush supercharged 5.0. Never had any issues so I think ill be okay. Plus no one offers a 3 year warranty on the product like roush does...
There's something about Sam. I take back any bad remarks about your driving skills. That's irrelivant, you are genuine and so enthustiastic. Which is why you are the best You Tuber in my book. You da man Sam, and Dane is the woman.
I've got a 2021 GT with a Phase 2 and you are correct about the shifting. If I'm in SPORT mode with the Roush tune it's rough and if I'm in TRACK mode it's undrivable in the city as my spine feels like I'm on the receiving end of a viking invasion. I'm sure you know what Toronto streets are like :)
This is one of the fair races to be seen and a conclusion to be taken from an actual better machine. I think a lot of people downplay the challengers and call them all sorts of things but when something like this is shown to us, you clearly see which one comes out on top. That mustang is insane too. They’re both way above any standard “stock” cars out there for the most part but even though they stayed near each other with the mustang taking off first, you can see that he wouldn’t stay ahead too long. Especially on a roll. This was an amazing race. Loved this video! Beautiful cars!
@@jmkos86 how do You figure look at all the cam Angels on pretty much every race except the one where the tranny got stuck on the stang looool the stang finished first every time. You’re seeing the Dodge pull ahead after the dude already pumps the breaks to end the race on the stang 😂😂 come on now
@@muttswob4239 we watched the same video. What I say stands. He mentions at the end where he can’t pass him. What we saw, every race was a close race on a 1/4 mile. With more space, pushing the engine, what I say stands. Every race, the challenger was catching up and would eventually take over and the mustang doesn’t have the back end torque the challenger has. On a longer track, the hellcat would take it every time. From a heavier body and less crank hp. The mustang will ALWAYS leave first and be ahead for a bit because of their differences but the once the power of that supercharged 6.4 kicks in that’s it.
I really enjoyed this video . Please !!! Do the same Video with a 2021 Roush Stage 3 against a 2021 Shelby GT 500 . I have a 2020 RS3 and I’m dying to know how my car would do against a GT 500 of the same year and not an older 500 .
Is this the roush mustang that the throttle body closes when the supercharger temps go up which makes you lose power and keeps temps high instead of cooling down
Mustang has aggressive gearing probably a 3.73 which is to much for top end . Low trap speed , it needs a 3.55 or 3.15 to handle that hellcats trap speed
Let's see we got sticky tires on the mustang. The Challenger has stock tires looks like pirellis. The mustang has more horsepower and weighs less. And the hellcat still pulls it in. Would I rather pay $67,000 or $93,000 I think that's an easy answer
For the amount of money spent on the Roush it should walk that hellcat. 760 is moderately tuned for a Gen 3 though. That Roush can make much more power than that but great race fellas
Unfortunately the stang has a speed limiter and tops out at 155. Where the Hellcat does not. I have a r2650 on my 2020 mustang. Going to remove it when warranty expires. Will do 190 easy.
What does this have to do with an 1/8th mile or quarter mile race? When are you going to race it past 155? Just curious.. How many times have you actually been to 155?
@@CreativePixElation Lol... Alot. Considering I have a super charged 5 liter. It gets to 155 fast. So does a hellcat. Do you own either of these vehicles? 155 is not shit for a hellcat. Roll racing people break 155 ease. Quarter mile not going to happen stock supercharger.
@@justinhawes5193 I do actually... and there isn't a hellcat at the track I go to that needs to worry about 155mph. Most don't reach over 130mph.. But... My speed limiter is about 180.. I'm still not going to hit it in the 1/4 mile...
So the car with 50 more HP, 20 more torque and weighs 250lbs less cant outrun its opponent. Something doesnt add up. I believe Roush really put in some warrenty tuning in the top of of that mustang. Looks like the Mustang hit a wall at a certain speed.
@@someferarriguy7910 whipple don't offer the same warranty 3 year 30,000 miles ,right now whipple is over 12weeks back order . So going to whipple isnt that easy.lol
Unfortunately the Roush blower for Gen 3 coyote is the worst one to get out of all the blowers available for the 18-current mustangs. They have heat soak issues. Undersized Intercooler. A Whipple or VMP Wouldn’t have let the Hellcat come back and close the gaps.
Had a guy in this exact mustang only red try to race me in my Challenger Scat Pack. I took one look at his Roush and new better. Managed to ask him at the Red light how much he paid for it...$94,000. I couldn't help but laugh. Nice car but way outta my price range. Nice race guys!
Paddle shift/center console shift in manual mode every time. Full auto sometimes hangs. Proven fact manual shift with auto trans is by far best for faster time/quicker acceleration. Always sport, sport plus or track mode and traction control off. Sam this time did a much better reaction to hand drop.
Wow that was entertaining! Second run hellcat driver was manually shifting looks like. What happened to the roush, the transmission doesn't upshift sometimes? Is that due to the tune
wow!!! Hey you said semi slick ties. which tires are those. If they are a drag radial that makes a big difference. The hell cat have a semi slick? I know it sounds crazy but I imagine those cars could spin tires at 50mph on the roll also.
Both cars are absolutely awesome. It seems that the Mustang is a bit better out of the hole, but the hellcat pulls harder as you get going, be was reeling the Mustang in before they let off.
If that's a stock hellcat, that's pretty good to be neck and neck with a stage 3 mustang... but it would've been a clear difference in favor of Dodge if it was a redeye against the stage 3 mustang
That’s inaccurate info. That was the initial rollout on the 2018’s with the smaller heat exchanger and original calibration. The revised Phase 2 calibration and larger heat exchanger have made huge improvements.
@@johnthegaptist7794 Intercooler is still significantly smaller than the blow up designs from VMP and Whipple. It still gets heat soaked. Not enough room in the valley of a Gen 3 to install a sufficient blow down design.
negative it absolutely will not.. the Roush Stage 3 has been known to underperform for the HP numbers the RS3 traps around the same and less than a stock hellcat and runs near identical times. It will lose to a Redeye every time from a roll or dig and a 2020 GT500 which actually performs like its hp rating. A stock Hellcat can beat a RS3 especially above 130+
So no drag mode in the s550? That's weird? The ecu allows for a little bit of slippage by adjusting timing, braking, and throttle respond to the traction control system and all you have to do is stay in it and point and shoot. I'm about to boost my 5.0 6speed premium package very very soon. Can't wait to see what it'll do. It's tuned by Lund now on flex fuel tune. Nice runs against the Hellcat. Can't sleep on those kitty cats especially with a driver who knows how to drive one.
No surprise the Catt was making the pass in very first run. Roush tends to over state their kits power, and have done so since 2008. I'd estimate the Roush at 650 hp and 580 tq.
Honestly that Roush get pulled on both from dig and rolling, the gearing, suspension and transmission tuning are worlds apart from the standard older Hellcats. Just the gearing ratio from a 2.62 to 3.09 will make all the difference. But man that Roush looks and reving is enough to win in looks department alone
Sam this was an excellent race this goes to show supercars are not the only stars but also these scary beastly machines man , and I'm Tellin ya that Roush is way better than Shebly mustangs , more durable and all you can go watch hoovies garage video regarding Roush mustangs and why they're better than Shelby's also Sam there is one special Roush mustang that you need to try and get and not only do a race with but also a full review with ,it's the P51 Roush Mustang that thing has had only 51 units made in the entire world , nevertheless I'm a Mopar guy and I'm proud of the hellcats performance against the this beast so as well against the R8 in the last video of course that was the Redeye I know but still these kitty cats are awesome 😎👍💪🇺🇸🔥🔥❤️❤️💯💯✌️ SOME OF THR BEST PERFORMANCE DRAG RACES IN ALL OF RU-vid THESE TWO RACES WERE!!🤜🤛.
Tuning and gear ratio played a roll in why the races kept ending the way they did. Hellcat had longer gears than the stang, stang is set up for a shorter run. I am a FORD man and always will be. But you gotta respect what Dodge did with those engines.
Seems as though the Hellcat had gearing better for higher speeds with reliable acceleration and the Mustang wants to leave like a bat out of hell but the gear ratios limit top end acceleration compared to the hellcat. Overall I would say the hellcat with lower numbers 2 gears less and heavier weight it still the quicker car down the run but a better driver could have changed this outcome. What do you guys think?
I drive a S60 3.0 Polestar Volvo. It's AWD and I wreck the 5.0 GT Mustangs whenever they line up. 400hp and 650 NM of torque. I pulled up next to one of these thinking it was a regular 5.0. It absolutely wrecked me and sounded magnificent while doing it. I still destroyed it around the first set of bends but on the straights it ruled #respek
These close races are so insanely satisfying. Monster cars head to head, love it. 2 things (lol) 1. Lets see that Sentra! 2. Dane revving the Hellgato with a dart in his hands. Outstanding
There’s no reason the mustang should lose at all. Weighs less, higher HP, higher torque, better aero, better gearbox. Like this is truly determined by the drivers
