2021 MT09 vs 2018 Yamaha R1 (Cop says plate is Obscured) 

Yari, another great video. Bikes are designed for specific riding styles and conditions. Having the bike that fits makes it all that much better.

The plate is indeed cleverly obscured from most ways of observation, but in such a way the cop couldn't articulate exactly why. So here's why: 1. In the bright sun, the plate is in the shadow and thus is hidden because the brightest bright is thousands of times greater than the shadow. 2. No traffic camera can take a picture of the plate because traffic cameras as set high. The passenger seat would block all traffic cameras. 3. At night, the plate isn't being lit. Headlights shined from behind would be blocked by the rear tire. 4. The almost horizontal angle of the plate makes it extremely hard to read even from directly behind and low. Moving the plate forward to make it less horizontal (as per the cops request) would then be obscured by the rear tire. 5. The plate is exactly placed where it would receive the most amount of mud; it is essentially functioning as a mudguard. But this shouldn't surprise anyone. Motorcyclists have been purposefully obscuring plates for decades now, and the "fender eliminator, 12 to 3 o-clock high" seems by far the most effective way to do so without actually just placing the plate inside a backpack.

I bought a 21 for the wife after watching your blogs as a more realistic road ride than her 2016 GSXR 600, and rode it in anger for the first time last weekend. I loved it so much I ordered myself a 2022 SP yesterday . They really are a fantastic road bike, so much so that I was faster in the mountain roads on the MT than on my Ducati 1199s. So bye bye Ducati, hello MT

Ok. Nobody can see a motorcycle plate 100 feet away clearly no matter where the plate is placed. I had the 2020 R1 and my reason for switching to the 2021 BMW S1000RR is because of the ergonomics of the R1 is very much track focused. By the time your done riding that bike you need a walker to get yourself back in the house lol! Love the video and the information between the 2 bikes. Btw! Yeah bro I’m in St. Augustine and I had the tst low mount on my 2020 and they gave me a warning once that I might get messed with and sure enough 3 weeks later a bike cop gave me a ticket for obscured plate saying it’s modified and illegal. $1,300 ticket!!! Luckily I changed it to the high mount adjustable and he dropped it. They can be ducks if they want to here so just be careful

i have the 2020 mt09 and my dealership are pointing me towards the 2022 mt10 as an upgrade. of course this would give me a full electric package (6 axis imu / electric suspension adjust etc etc) but i cant help thinking it will just be the essentially the same bike once im at speed. so im thinking maybe pick up and ex demo r1 to see if a full on sports bike is any more exciting. having watched this video im now questioning that logic. i still have my honda grom from when i was learning how to ride last year and occasionally i take it out and it gives me the biggest smiles so i know that having more power isnt always the answer. any thoughts?

that cop is definitely a bully. if he truly though your plate was obstructed he would have ticketed you. pretty easy court fight to win though as you pointed out how visible it was at distance

Naked bikes are the way to go. Unless you just wanna go stupid fast. Similar power but 2x more comfortable can’t go wrong there
