Thanks to those awesome people at Wheels Motorcycles I've been lent the new 2021 MV Agusta Dragster for a couple of weeks to get to know the machine. I have ridden the older Brutale version a few years ago and fantastic as it was it had some terrible low speed manors. Have MV sorted things for the latest 2021 models?? Lets go find out!

Red can cover denotes the RR model @ 140bhp. Wider bars than the previous model up to 2017 Euro 4 was to slow down the tank slapper on acceleration. The steering damper is not an Ohlins item and apparently is as much use as a chocolate saucepan. Btw I have a 2016 modified Dragster and I love it ♥️

Idk what procedure mv give you but you can rev an engine out while running it in. In fact you need to at some point to run in an engine properly. So you don't create "steps" on the cylinder wall. You just have to do is gently. No sudden sharp acceleration, nice slow smooth action so the components aren't put under high load.

Great review Chops as usual. Lovely looking bike but for 17 grand I would expect Ohlins suspension and stylema calipers. You could buy some of the hyper nakeds for that amount of dosh. A mate of mine, had a Dragster RR, a few years ago. Looked stunning, red/white with gold accents. Went like stink, handled amazingly, sounded awesome!! However; problems from day 1!! This bike was brand new...... Throttle sensor failed, BEFORE he collected it, waited 3 weeks for replacement. Oil leak from gear shift shaft, would take about 8 weeks to get replacement seal! Fuel tank breather kinked or blocked, caused tank to vacuum! Loose spokes on wheels, and a dead battery (which required removal of the tank, handle bars etc for access). All this within 3 months of ownership!! He returned it to the shop, bought an MT10 instead. Shame, it was an awesome bike!!

Absolutely love this bike, would have a brutale in a snap if I had a garage to keep it in. Wouldn't have it over a striple as an every day middle weight, but as a second or third bike for weekend thrills and posing down at Loomies, 100% perfect bit of Italien art. Sounds the bee's too. Love a triple and the MV sounds angrier and somehow more mechanical than the Triumph and Yamaha 3 cylinder engines.

@pistonburner6448
@pistonburner6448 2 года назад
I've only had to service my bike once every two years on average, sometimes once a year when I did very long tours on my Brutale. I don't mind taking a nice ride to the authorised service centre once every two years (or once a year) and look around and try new bikes while my bike is serviced. Any routine things like winterisation can be done by myself or any shop close to me. For any unexpected issues like when I had my battery die (not the fault of the bike, the KTM shop that I had replace my battery put in the wrong type, some cheap-o useless junk battery...) the insurance company paid for transporting the bike to the MV Agusta service centre. Of course if I'd have known it's only the battery I could've avoided that, so anyone who doesn't have such insurance coverage can just take it to be diagnosed to the nearest shop first if they want, to see if it's some simple issue anyone can rectify. I've never had to, but I could also just rent a trailer or van and take it to the dealer myself too. Compared to all the costs of bike ownership having to do that once or twice is nothing. But with my insurance: any problem where I can't ride it there I get a free transport and with new MV Agustas they have a long warranty which means the repairs themselves are free. Of course you need a ride to go get your bike once it's ready, but that's hardly a problem for most people. Small price to pay for getting the excitement of an MV Agusta every time you ride. Overall I'd say MV Agusta should be one of the most reliable bikes out there, since it was really reliable to begin with, it's not a totally new design with unknowns but is instead a development of known tech, and they have ironed out all the few flaws. _It's tried and tested._ Also, we know that even years ago back when they were in financial difficulty they still took great care of those few customers with problems and fixed those starter clutch issues for free, and note that even for old bikes people got the newly developed fixed clutch designs so now even the old model bikes are really reliable.

@@LambChopRides Oh, I absolutely adore it. I was a bit sceptical at first, thought it was just all looks, but, after a test ride, she just blew me away. 😍😍 Coming from Street Triple 2014 model and wanting a 3 cylinder bike, I was searching for something that's just as playfull, but a little bit more grunt. The RS model was very good, but, I dunno, just not worth that price difference betweet what i'd get for mine used and the cost of new one. Then I saw Speed 1200RS and thought: "this is it..." but it was over 18k€ for a new one, and frankly, I really don't need 180hp for a sunday blasts I usualy do. And then my local MV dealer lowered the price of a brand new EU5 Dragster to sub 16k and I had to have a go. After 30 min of test ride, I signed the buying contract. It's just what I wanted. A bit more playfull with a little bit more grunt, yet almost as accessible as Street Triple. Yes, the engine is a bit more raw but just as power-delivery-smooth as Triumph, brakes are IMO perfect, not too agressive, yet firm, quickshifter is IMO better than Triumphs (pre-blipper ones). Suspension is sporty hard, but so was the Triumphs, and it corners like on rails, very willingly to my suprise, I was afraid it wouldn't be cause of that 200 rear tire, but it does. The only thing what could be a bit better is the seat. I have room to move, and seat itself is comfy firm, but the frame of the seat pushes itself into my inner thighs every time I put both legs down. So town riding would be a bit irritating. But, the bike it's not just for show. It can also perform. It's up there with RS and 890. And 800 MV Triples are reliable, from what I've heard. Can't wait for your Part 2. 😉😉

Hey there, how smooth did you considered the throttle to be when comparing it to the likes of other naked bikes like the z900? I do not like "choppy throttles" and that is an issue I have with my motorcycle (Kawasaki z400) I am considering a second bike and I can't help but notice this one.

@@alpap1980 well, I own this and had Streety. In contrast to Street, this is more raw, a bit more playful and more flickable, has also very linear power delivery (with more punch), but it isn't accessible as Street RS f. E. Well, to be honest it's just different in character. Street can easily be riden by a beginner rider, this one will be a bit to much. It's very manageable but it wants to be played with, to be pushed. Street Triple is also ok with to be ridden "dull", this is always itching you, teasing you.

Sarcasm? Sprag clutch anyone?
@pistonburner6448
@pistonburner6448 2 года назад
@@sensoryamusiaAU So, what about the sprag clutch? The one that: 1. Hasn't been an issue but for a far less amount of people than morons like you try to make it seem 2. Was fixed by MV Agusta for everyone free of charge = owners have nothing to fear about 3. Even old bikes have the new reliable sprag clutch design fitted 4. Was never even a big issue as it doesn't leave anyone stranded: it warned people for ages to get it fixed and only those who ignored getting it fixed for free might have possibly gotten stranded out on a ride. 5. For years the new model MV Agustas have had a new type of sprag clutch which doesn't have any issues. So I repeat: for years MV Agustas have had a new sprag clutch design! (and all old models with issues have those new parts fitted too so they are problem-free as well) 6. MV Agusta offers their bikes with a long warranty (depends on the country but I believe the minimum everywhere is 3 years?) So it was never really an issue even when there were a few problems with the sprag clutch...on OLD MODELS. And on new models it's the opposite of an issue as just like the rest of the bike it's not only a very reliable bike to begin with, but even the few small issues have been fixed.
@sensoryamusiaAU
@sensoryamusiaAU 2 года назад
@@pistonburner6448 Calm down mate. The sprag clutch WAS an issue. Anything requiring you to take your bike to a mechanic is an issue. I had a '15 Dragster and I did not have faith in it's reliability so I sold it. It's great to hear that MV's are much more reliable these days as they are super cool and unique bikes.
@pistonburner6448
@pistonburner6448 2 года назад
@@sensoryamusiaAU It was a very small issue: a problem that didn't strand you, most people had months to react to it before it became a problem, so they could book a convenient time for the fix. And it cost nothing. Above all, it's unbelievable that absolute morons like you keep lying about that being an issue as the discussion is whether or not it's a problem for CURRENT buyers of MV Agustas! And it certainly is NOT!! Because the sprag clutch is a new design in current bikes, so it's NOT even the slight, tiny, itty-bitty issue that it was in the past for the OLD models which does NOT affect the current MV Agusta buyers!! There, once again we've handled the _"TERRIBLE"_ reliability _"problems"_ of MV Agusta: that one sprag clutch issue of A HISTORIC MODEL NO LONGER IN PRODUCTION that was no big deal at all to begin with as it didn't strand you nor cost you, and even for those old models it was replaced with a version that was improved so even buying used ones of the older model is no problem. Anything else? Haha, you "didn't have faith in its (correct spelling) reliability"!!! Well, too bad you weren't intelligent enough or were too lazy to do research and lost yourself lots of money for no reason!! I bought mine when the company was at the brink of bankruptcy and people believed that nonsense about reliability issues (and when the parts availability was in fact an issue so that was a small risk for me) so it was discounted like crazy, then owned it for years, then when the new owners had come in and they solved the spare parts issue and confidence in the brand raised back the confidence and prices, I sold it for almost exactly as much as I bought it for! But hey, you can buy at high cost and sell at low price if you think that's so smart. And then you can go ahead and try to rationalise your huge mistakes with lies on the internet... I don't have to make up lies about reliability issues to try to hide my mistakes.

If MV has conquered its electrical issues from years ago they may be worth a look. The detail and design are stunning on MVs and the Dragster is no exception. I've been tempted to get an MV over my current Ducati, but the support, I've been told, is far from top notch for parts and service here in the States. I wonder if it's better for you guys in the UK?
@LambChopRides
@LambChopRides 3 года назад
Yes agree Thunder that is the worry, I know MV have been trying to add 20 dealers to thier network here so yes I think it probably is! But perhaps so new owners will comment on this video so we can see..
@pistonburner6448
@pistonburner6448 2 года назад
Never listen to those telling you about a parts supply problem again. That was an issue around 2015-2016 when MV Agusta was looking for a new ownership, completely out of cash and had basically no reserves of spare parts meaning many had to wait for the new production batch. Everything has changed since then, and parts supply was basically the first and main thing they fixed when they got the new owners with the massive influx of cash. That was years ago.

I own three Ducatis and one MV - the Ducatis arent half the quality of the MV Brutale, but then Ducatis are assembled here in Thailand by young kids on meth who havent slept a week and MVs are assembled in italy so, that speaks for itself
@Peanutdenver
@Peanutdenver 6 месяцев назад
@@AjarnSpencerSo what was the problem then? I've ridden with 3 different guys who owned MVs and the all had constant issues like rear hub failure, electrical and fueling problems. But, like I said, that was 7-8 years ago and maybe they've addressed the issues...and added some support here in the States. If that is the case I'd love a 800 Dragster.
