I think Australia is One of Toyota’s biggest and favorite market ..they have all the good toyota products.

They won't. The GX is a popular platform, slowed down primarily by its lagging technology suite. 2023 is when they plan to release the next generation, if the report they put out a few months ago is anything to go by. Odds are that'll be when we see it shoot back ahead of its Toyota counterpart.

@@thirstypilgrim97 That much is practically guaranteed. Contradicting reports state that either V8s will be exclusive to $90k+ vehicles or be phased out entirely in favour of V6s for emissions purposes. So yeah, either way, the next GX will most likely be a turbo V6. That said, this means a modernised powertrain that may very well be just as powerful and reliable as the outgoing V8s. Toyota has had a fair bit of time to research it at this point, and I don't think the result will disappoint. Now as for the exhaust note on these new V6 vehicles...I'm thinking I may look into getting an upgraded exhaust system to give it a more satisfying rumble :P

Yes indeed! The GX front end, running boards really affect where it can go. It’s such a shame the Lexus added the crazy low front bumper. Ugh!

@@woolengrappler the GXs made before 2020 have a higher front end and don’t have the body kit that the new ones have. Even with the running boards these are still very capable

@@Mahan.M The 2 door Prado with a 2.7 petrol engine, manual transmission and spare tire mounted on the tailgate is my 'sensible' dream car. BTW in South America it is called the 'Sumo'. We need a 2 door Toyota 4X4 in North America to compete with the base Wrangler and Bronco. We don't need another freakish FJ, we need a classic Prado. :)

@@tinhinnh the Lexus GX shared the same platform as the LC Prado but they don’t shared the same engine. The Prado has the 2.7L,4.0L petrol and 2.8L turbo diesel while the GX only came with a 4.6L V8 petrol. The 4Runner is only for the US market it a completely different vehicle from the GX and Prado

I'm really excited for rivian! I look forward to their trucks and suvs. Toyota can catch up, but at this point...they're behind. It will probably be another 7+ years before we see a fully electric tundra.

The 2021 4Runner will have it. That engine is (to use the cliche) "bullet proof" but as most know mileage is "meh" it's a bit lacking power/torque.

Both are part of the LandCruiser family. The Prado is smaller and less powerful compared to the 200 Series (I4-Diesel/V6-Gas vs. V8-Gas/V8-Diesel). Toyota describes the Prado as a Light Duty Dual-Use Off-Roader while the 200 Series is the Heavy Duty Dual-Use Off-Roader. Their construction is similar: ladder-frame chassis, independent front suspension, rear beam axle, permanent four-wheel drive, and similar off-road angles/clearance. The 200 is the "better" vehicle, but it is also more expensive and sadly not available everywhere. Here in Europe we only get Prados by normal means. Other current Land Cruisers are the FJ-Cruiser, which is basically an off-road-focused short-wheelbase Prado 120, and the 70 Series which is the Heavy Duty Utility Vehicle (more utilitarian, front beam axle, selectable 2WD/4WD). Fortuner, 4Runner, Tacoma, and Hilux are their own family which is loosely related to the Land Cruiser.

@@AlexandarHullRichter You're not wrong. They are on the slower side, than, they are focused on reliability and longevity rather than peak-performance. That said, Prado and Hilux use the same line of 4cyl diesel engines each generation for the last 20+ years and have proven themself even in harsh conditions.

There are 3 lines of Land Cruisers. The 200s turning point goes back to the J45. There was a demand for a luxurious family off-roader and so the 40 was still in production and the Land Cruiser Station line was born. The 1st was the FJ55 followed by the 60, 80, 100 and the 200. When the 70 was in production there was a demand for a more comfortable, less thirsty, but still utilitarian Land Cruiser. The engineers at Toyota took the 70 Series and replaced the leaf springs with coil springs and they gave it a smaller engine. The Land Cruiser II was born, later named Bundera. Then they came up with the facelift for the coil sprung 70 and it was finally named Prado. The leaf sprung 70 is still in production but the Prado parted ways with the 70 as the station did before. So they continued the development of the Prado and came up with the 90, 120 and the 150 Series shown in the video. The FJ Cruiser is based on the Prado Chassis but isn’t an official member of the Land Cruiser family. The latest 4Runner is also build on the Prado frame. Toyota's current Diesels would not pass North American air pollution standards and they seem to have no intention to make the effort to change that fact.

Kirk, this SUV have been around over ten years. They should revise it or kill it off, but don’t drag us along waiting for a new model.

Because they make a luxury version of the Prado for the US market it call the Lexus GX. We get the Luxury version the rest of the world get the peasant version 😂

I live in Toronto and I see very few GXs, when I go to Russia I see a lot of Prados. Prado sells much better worldwide, GX was made for US market and it sells poorly, so sadly there is a chance that GX will share GSs fate

The 4Runner Limited is very comparable to top Prado trims. The Prado we NEED here is the cheaper 2 door.

@@rightlanehog3151 the top level 4runner gets the better AWD system thats on the Prado, and the GX. The limited 4Runner is almost the same cost as a base GX. Where do you live?

@@raullasvegas I live in Canada. North America is the only continent where you cannot buy a 2 door Toyota 4X4 which makes no sense as this is Toyota's biggest market. The FJ was based on the 2 door Prado platform but flopped due to radical 'styling'. If they had brought over the 2 Prado priced below the 4Runner as was the FJ, it would have been much more widely embraced. In my opinion, the Prado is easily Toyota's best looking SUV. Lastly, the 4Runner is a fine machine and in the US market, the SR5 level is an absolute bargain in the world of genuine 4X4s. If Toyota would again offer a basic 4Runner with a manual, I would probably stop pining for the elusive Prado.

Yes, the Diesels on sale here from other brands are also having plenty of problems with the new emission control systems.

@@KirkKreifels My brother in law (a Japanese national engineer in one of the massive factory in Japan) sad that this diesel is designed by Yamaha. A lot of engines are designed by them and many struggle in car environment. Car engines work in different cycles than marine engines, which see less start/stop cycles. I didn't care to check that info as we do not own Toyota Diesel but the info might be worth something for you :)

DPF problems are mainly caused by soccer moms only using the car for a 2km school run every day and occasional trip to the mall. If you actually drive it on the highway once or twice a week so the DPF can get hot enough there is no problem.
