As a person who has owned BMW, Porsche and Mercedes’ and currently own a C43 AMG and and M340i, BMW is unmatched in engine and transmission where the gas pedal creates a seamless surge of smooth power, it’s quite unbelievable and it’s all of BMW’s vehicles.
I wouldn’t say that but I can say the b58 is a insane engine as it makes more hp then what bmw says as the 5 series they said 5 seconds well if you get it rwd or awd its 4.6 seconds as the zf 8 speeds on theses are simular as the difference will be is what generation is it like is it the 1st gen 2nd gen or 3rd gen but overall it just shows how overly done bmw did to themselves with the b58 and s58 inline 6 engines.
@@OleMisss I see you had said the M240i was having some troubles! What are they really curious I thought this car was considered reliable? Remember chatting with you before about our cars!✌
@@germanengineering204 I wouldn’t worry if I were you. I drive my cars like I stole them here in Chicago, lol. But the issues I’ve had after 60k hard miles are - Valve cover gaskets x2 - VANOS solenoid replacements - and the worst failure was the ZF transmission failed at 30k miles.
The Velar is car for the confortable drive. Have a "soft" aceleration. The bmw X5 have a other propost. I would chose the confort of Velar whereof sportiness of X5. I liked this vídeo 👍
I thought it was a pretty well known thing, BMW seems to under rate their vehicles power. I’ve read and article where they think it’s the wheel hp they give often time, so way more to the crank. That ZF transmission they use nowadays also helps a bunch also
We just picked up our new X5 40i and it is surprisingly fast..I would have bet on the Velar. Most other brands Audi, Range Rover etc have not figured out how to combat turbo lag. BMW has that part mastered and is gone before the others build boost. The Velar is a beautiful Suv. Great video!
Landrover have combated this with the transmission in sport or auto mode but in the power band from 3,800 to 4,100 rpm there is some lag but only on the discovery at least I think but the older supercharged v6 had no lag what so ever.
‘The Velar is a beautiful Suv’. Oh really? Is that a joke, or are you hallucinating? JLR still utilise that mammoth hydraulic press which squashes the roof line towards the rear. Why? The visibility from the rear seats must be ghastly. The steering wheel looks like a senior citizen’s shower seat. The front elevation appears to be that of a mechanical ‘face’ with symmetrical gum boils. Just because the more senile Jeremy Clarkson gets a retainer for stating it’s a great car…drone, drone. Oh get real Clarkie, you’re beyond your best before date. Feed the sheep. Look at the Bavarian examples of SUVs, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. But not necessarily in that order.
Also recently got an X5, and I'm an Audi guy, but it's just an impressive vehicle. Surprisingly fast and such a great ride. It was fast enough that although the m50i was tempting it saved me ~$20k and I still got the MSport look.
@@anthony8090mart move! The BMW X5 40i in sport plus mode is just way to much power as it is! I did the same thing! Mine is a 2021 x5 in Ametrin Metallic! It’s just gorgeous! Got mine loaded with every available option! The features I have now three of them you can only get in the comp! The hot and cold cup holders are such a convenience! So I’m keeping mine and hope that the 24 x5 was just a fluke because they took away the ambient lighting strips in the front and along with the contrast led strip and also removed the led from the back of The seats! BMW design department is all over the place! Just look at the x7’s in 23 and 24 years!
I was about to say the same thing... The 2nd race was more like one and a half car length. Also didn't make sense to ask the X5 driver about max speed on the 2nd race (did he say 150 to 170 km/h?) and be impressed about it, where the Velar was starting to gain so the X5 was going a couple of km/h slower than the Velar at the finish line 🫣
I hv a 2019 bmw x5 40i. For me eco mode is more than enough. This car has been good with minor issues specially the lower tailgate drive failure. The left chrome exhaust color starts wearing off. Car is slightly on stiffer side. Good on gas mileage though, hv been getting more than 450 in total in city n 530+ in highway. The rear starts wearing off faster than front. No issues with wireless carplay. Hate gesture control had to keep it off all the time 😂. Seats r comfortable. I have full marino tartufo. Massager is useless if ur not wearing a thin shirt to feel something moving in chair. Ventilated seats r somewhat effective. Stearing is pretty accurate and gets stiffer in sport setting. I hv only driven this car once in sport mode n is scary for me plus, the right exhaust opens automatically in sport mode at 4000 rpm. Parts r waaaaaay to expensive if u r car is out of waaranty and extension is only given for 3 more years after 4 years of warranty which is around $5600 in total n does not covers brakes or wipers or wheel barring. Rest i can assure u this car is pretty good and i hv driven almost 42000 miles and still going strong. No major faults or anything. Best tires r pirelli pzero for this car if u like quiet n comfort but will last around 20k to 25k but that also depends upon ur driving style. My first wheel alignment happened around 24k miles. My dealer was shocked to see that and said to me that if i m only driving on dyno 😂
Hi Sam have been following your Channel and I really love what you doing I was thinking when you going to drag Race C300 Benz 2019 with Honda Accord 2019 2.0T I would really love to see those two go
Was looking at a Q8, Macan and X5. The Macan was a bit too small, although the drive was amazing, and lacked features. The Q8 is amazing but the interior was a bit less practical, although the best design of them all. The X5 was just wildly impressive. The drive is amazing and the power is noticeable. The m50i is obviously much more powerful but the x40i never feels under powered or slow. It's a great ride and the interior quality is great too.
did u buy the x5? i did in December the 2019 x5 and its definitely amazing! its good on gas, fast as shit, drives like a sedan and has nice looks, i see people always turning heads, also mine got carjacked at gunpoint hehe but i was lucky to get it back within two hours, dudes got arrested :P
I own the the 45e X5 2021 model and have had no issues just hit a year (just knocked on my wooden side table as well...😅🤷🏾♀️😂) love this damn thing tho sheesh the question mark ❔ moments as I smoked some very fast cars... lol
I have an X3 Msport 3 litre diesel with 130,000 miles on the clock and it goes like stink, turbo lag is none existing when you floor the accelerator from as little as 1000 rpm, those straight 6s are brilliant,I had a Range Rover 3-6 TDV8 that had been chipped before and thought that was quick but the BM is quicker and better on fuel by miles.
I own a X6 40i with Msport exhaust, even with that, my exhaust sound is not as loud as the X5 on the video ( and no pops). For me, that X5 is a stage 1 or stage 2 with direct exhaust line.
I was surprised to see the X5 do so well considering it doesn't have the M performance power rating of 382HP and 369TQ as in the new gen M240 and current M340/M440.
X5 40i Definitely underrated it does 0-60 in high 4s while completion does it in 6s with same power, it’s more like 400hp+, also B58 has a very good power band.
You made it clear the Rover being tested was not the most powerful version but where you failed is you didn’t mention the BMW has more engine options all the way up to 617HP.
On the launch, why do you show each car separately? Nobody wants to see that view. Just show them take off together in the same shot, just like everyone else does.
Just because they share a ZF supplied gearbox who said everything in the gearbox is the same, looks like the BMW has shorter/closer ratio at lower gears for acceleration then equals the ratio in higher gears, also seems like the BMW revs more freely which to me would seem it has a lighter flywheel compared to the Velar
BMW X5 40i does not come with M side mirrors; look closely, this one does! The X5 depicted here is most likely an X5 M50i with X5 40i badging. That's why it's even so loud!
sold my 2020 velar sva, bought 2022 x3 m40i,definitely less powerful and comfortable, but saved me from visiting dealer a lot and way less spendings in overall. Hate to say that I do miss my SVA’s exhaust notes
I live in New York City. You can’t even drive 65 mph. Speed cameras everywhere. For me the SUV is all about looks and features. Speed is my third option
All the new BMW m40i engined cars are rated at around 370hp be they in the Z4 up too the X5. This talk of 335hp was around years ago and most didn't believe it
it's not about horsepower. the most important component is the transmission and how it can handle / distribute that power. notice how bmw has faster shift times and faster throttle response. in the end it's an X5M , that thing competes with modern sports cars , didn't think a range rover can beat that.
If you have ever driven a SAAB, you would know that what their model 9-3 4 cylinder engine turbo can do and not break a sweat (kind of like a little jet engine under the hood), will blow away most things, let alone their 9-5 6 cylinder turbo. But as we know, SAAB is long gone. Point is certain manufacturers can do marvels with small engines.
Considering That they are designed as being capable of off road use, I find it strange that BMW then concentrate on on road performance rather than all around ability. A better test would be to take them off road & see how far into the muck they get. Just a clue here, but the winner won’t be the BMW……
The Velar perfectly encapsulates everything wrong about Range Rover these days. Form over function and designed primarily as a status symbol rather than a car to be driven. The last actually decent car they released was the TDV8 L322. The Evoque and Velar are embarrassing.
I hate to have to agree with you but I think you have a point. The Evoque is so disappointing in every way except looks. The velar is a bit better but not by much when you can get an F-Pace (the original platform this was velar was built on ) for less money and it’s more sporty and seems more purposeful.
Ever considered that Rover may be overstating their horsepower? Big numbers fool some fools into buying one. You may not have what you have been told. Only way to find out is put them on a chassis dyno.
I have the x5 40i and it feels shockingly powerful. I need to be light with my foot on the gas or the thing will lurch forward like I’m trying to floor it
