As you've probably heard by now, there's an all-new 4th generation Toyota Tacoma midsize pickup truck heading our way soon. But before we make way for it, let's take a look back at what made the 3rd-gen Tacoma so outstanding and popular, and how it stacks up to what we already know about what comes for '24.

I remember when people were talking about the 3rd generation arriving back in 2016 and saying they were going to miss the 2nd gen. Just goes to show history repeats itself! Personally think the last few years of 2nd generation were the best. Had the largest displacement V6. Just wish my 2015 had slightly more power but it’s been good to me.

That fine, but I'm not spending my money on it. Gen 4 all the way. 3rd Gen is just too small! It smaller than my Honda CRV!

The Extra Cab concept of the 24' Tacoma is perfect for fleet buys who can put a bunch of junk in the back and have more seating positions. Kinda like what ford did with the 2004 - 2008 F 150's.

My dealer told me there’s basically a one year wait on new Tacoma’s so good luck getting a new Gen 3. They’re out there, but you’re stuck with buying whatever shows up on the lot.

@@noahwarren9462 the three Toyota dealers closest to me (two in town, one about 50mi away) it seems like they each get one new one every couple weeks. They’re almost always top spec, and they’re always grey, black, or white. Lolol

Yeah same here, just top spec stuff showing up at dealers near me. Salesman became completely uninterested in me once he realized I knew a lot about these trucks and wasn’t gonna buy the first thing I saw because I have patience. Pretty un impressed pretty much want to buy a frontier out of spite now

I'll bet the 24s mileage is no better and likely worse in colder climates. The Chevy Colorado mileage is worse than the tacoma v6. I'll take the 23 anyday over the 24.

What are they doing to prevent frame rust? As far as I know nothing at all.

They checked and sprayed the inside of the frame on our Tacoma...2016. But this is only done in 'cold' weather states.

It's fast enough for sure but expectations are so high now for cars now in terms of performance. Back in the 80's and 90's people would consider 0-60 in 10 - 15 seconds to be adequate.

Never buy the 1st year of a new gen, the i4 turbo has not been tested.

Buyers will miss this current model. That turbo 4 cylinder can't replace a V6 and NEVER will especially when it comes to towing.

Except nobody buys a Tacoma to tow anything substantial, and the new 4-cyl turbo makes at least as much hp, and way more torque than the V6 it replaces, so it will be fine towing that small utility trailer, camper, boat, or 2-place snowmobile trailer around.

@@gonepostal9101 turbo 4 cylinder engines aren't capable of handling any kind of towing. It's a fact. Yes Toyota is making this engine but it doesn't matter. These engines aren't going to last nearly as long as a naturally aspirated V6 engine.

It does at higher altitudes, the v6 would have major pumping loses and the turbo 4 would make more torque than a choked v6

How did Toyota quickly address the frame rot? They have been rotting on these for YEARS! That is what happens when you move manufacturing to Mexico!

They did on ours....but only Tacomas in cold weather states.

I thought 2nd gens were the rusty ones. I've never heard of rusty 3rd gens.

Every frame will rust if not treated with CRC, or Fluid Film, etc in area's with salt treated roads. Ford, Chevy, Ram(cough...) Dodge will die a slow death as well if not properly looked after. I have a 2017 4R that has been sprayed down every fall with Fluid Film, and not a single bit of rust. Bought a 2023 Tacoma TRD OR manual in April, and I am going to do the same thing to it's frame as well.

There's no difference in manufacturing in Mexico versus Texas. They're pretty much both the same. Do you just like sounding like a racist? You don't think texas isn't mostly Hispanic or Mexican? Wow..
