This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2024 Acura MDX 3-row, premium mid-size SUV. The 2024 Acura MDX has a 3.5L V6 engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission, 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. In Canada, standard AWD and in the US, FWD and AWD options are available. Driving the 2024 Acura MDX, you would never know you are driving a 3-row SUV, it’s very nimble and feels more like a larger sedan than an SUV. The 2024 Acura MDX offers 7.3” of ground clearance and comes standard with Jewel Eye LED headlamps, LED taillights, available LED fog lights, standard power folding exterior mirrors, dual rectangular exhaust finishers, 20” wheels and a temporary spare tire. In the US, 19” wheels are standard. If you are looking for a sportier MDX go with the A-Spec model with a sport appearance package including black accents and shark grey 20” wheels. The 2024 Acura MDX comes with some great standard features including, dual 12.3” screens , True touchpad interface, navigation, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, wireless charger, a 12-pseaker ELS Studio premium audio system, power front seats with trimmed perforated leather, driver and passenger seat memory, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, hands-free power tailgate with walk away close. In the US, since there are more 2024 Acura MDX trims available, not all these features are standard but are available including, the ELS sound system, leather trimmed seats, passenger seat memory, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and a power tailgate.The interior of this top 2024 Acura MDX trim feels upscale and refined with French stitching on the dash, leather upholstery with piping on the seats and wood trim. I am still not crazy about the trackpad and I wish Acura offered the MDX with a touchscreen or both.
The 2024 Acura MDX top trim has dual 12.3” screens, True touchpad interface, navigation, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, wireless charger, a 16-pseaker ELS Studio 3D audio system, power front seats, driver and passenger seat memory, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, hands-free power tailgate with walk away close, a head-up display and a surround view camera.
The 2024 Acura MDX gets 12.6L/100 km, 19 MPG city and 9.4L/100 km, 25 MPG highway.
In Canada, the 2024 Acura MDX starts at $67,400 CAD, A-Spec $70,400 CAD and Platinum Elite $74,400 CAD.
In the US, the 2024 Acura MDX FWD model is $49,850 USD, AWD $52,050 USD, Technology FWD $54,550 USD, AWD $56,750 USD, A-Spec $60,250 USD and Advance $63,800 USD.
Acura offers a warranty of 4 years or 80,000 km/50,000 miles. In the US, complimentary maintenance is offered for 2 years or 24,000 miles.

Our review of the Acura MDX drops 09/23, looking forward to sharing our review!
We are driving the top trim which is priced at $74,400 CAD/$63,800 USD.
The MDX is a sporty looking SUV with 7.3” of ground clearance. It has a double wishbone front suspension and for those who appreciate athletic handling in a larger vehicle, they will certainly enjoy the MDX.
The MDX gets 12.6L/100 km, 19 MPG city and 9.4L/100 km, 25 MPG highway.
The AWD model starts at $67,400 CAD/$52,050 USD.
Acura offers a warranty of 4 years or 80,000 km/50,000 miles. In the US, complimentary maintenance is offered for 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I bought one in May and love it. We just took it on a long road trip and it’s the most comfortable SUV we’ve owned. A few years ago we owned a Tahoe that was fully loaded and I must say that was also very comfortable but a different type of vehicle for sure. I also owned a Macan GTS, which was the most thrilling of the lot, but again no comparison to the MDX for overall comfort. The trackpad is really not a problem. I watched a video on RU-vid and everything made sense and I have not had a single problem. Getting used to the long hood and the width, for some reason has been my only growing pain. I never curb tires and I have curbed all four of these within two weeks of each other and I can’t explain why. I think it’s a combination of the length of the hood, the width and the low sitting position. One thing I forgot to mention, is fuel. I think there is a lot of concern about premium fuel and the cost. One of the first things my sales person told me is that premium fuel is not required, and they at the dealership only use regular fuel in these vehicles. Also, inside the fuel lid door, it specifically says 91 octane recommended 87 octane minimum.
@rampar77
@rampar77 10 месяцев назад
You couldn't afford the MDX if you couldn't afford the fuel. Warning: you will loose 20% power if you used regular fuel because the engine will auto retarded the timing to compensated for lower octane. The excess fuel not burn off will go out the exhaust. Your MPG will reduce.
@limulus61
@limulus61 10 месяцев назад
@@rampar77MPG is a bit low. But we got 24.5 on our long trip burning 87 octane. Inside the fuel filler door it specifically says the minimum octane is 87. As I stated above, the dealer even told me, they only put regular fuel in them. Also, 20% reduction seems like a lot to me. That would be in excess of 50 hp. I had a Macan GTS, as well as a 911 and I never put anything less than 93 octane in those. But those are different engines and there was no minimum for octane on those cars

@limulus61 I just finished a 300-mile road trip and my 2023 MDX averaged 28.3 mpg. I was expecting it to be around 24-25 mpg, so you can say I was pleasantly surprised. It is only 9 months old.

car and driver has done octane testing in the past. The most loss going to regular for engines that recommend premium was only 5% I wouldn’t bother putting premium in it either unless I was towing with it. This is a family crossover not a race car.

@@s.patterson5698Wow, that’s great! I just hit 6k on the odometer. So maybe it’s not fully broken in yet. We are in Atlanta where traffic is really bad and it’s hilly. We drove to Michigan and once we got into Ohio and flatter terrain, the mileage improved to 24.5 MPG

My 2020 MDX was involved in bad crash that required new "black box" for driver seatbelt . It was stranded in the body shop for 2 months because Acura couldnt "secure" the part. What? We were at the end of our lease (crappy timing), without use of the car. We battled hard with Acura leasing for weeks to hold our lease payments until car was repaired /released to us. They kept refusing. We have owned a combo of 8 acuras/Hondas and will never own an Acura again due to customer service. We handed the car back to the dealer . We battled and got the remaining 2 months waived and handed the keys back to acura for good. We have a friend who was an Acura dealer and recently cut ties and became a Mazda dealer because he had enough with Acura's poor service with their dealers who tried to work with customer concerns. It's too bad because I really liked my MDX for all of the reasons you highlighted. With CA gas prices hitting $7/gal, i will pass on premium gas cars.

That sounds horrific! So sorry you and your family had to go through all that! I had a horrible time with Honda on customer service my Insight as well- from delivering a car with missing items, all the way to not being able to get straight answers about my warranty for 7 months when it was time to trade it in. It seems Honda had sat on their laurels on their engineering for far too long, and left their customers behind. Never again! I drive a Nissan Rogue now and couldn't be happier, even if it's not a hybrid! Excellent customer service and so many great standard features that are creature comfort extras in other brands. Hope you are happy with your current ride!

One of the reasons we bought an MDX earlier this year was because it was a naturally aspirated 3.5 L V6. EVs are terrible. I rented a Tesla for a work trip and it was a nightmare. It told me I had enough mileage to get there but I ended up messing the city by 40 miles and I had to beg a man who owned a Tesla as well $100 to let me use his charger. We don’t have the electrical infrastructure for everyone to have an EV. The beauty of the gas V6 is it works there’s no problems it gets really good gas mileage for a FWD and I hope to have this vehicle for the next 25 years or longer.

The push button shifter and track pad are genuinely awful. I just rented a Honda Odyssey for a week with the push button shifter and could not stand it. I'm looking for a sports sedan, and the TLX is at the very bottom of my list because of the button shifter and trackpad. Perhaps Honda is waking up as the new Accord gets rid of the button shifter and uses a traditional gear shifter.

No issues with the dash. Having hard controls for climate, heated and cooled seats and steering wheel are so much better then the trend towards sub menus on touch pad. @s.patterson5698
@s.patterson5698 10 месяцев назад
Don't wait, just buy it. Touch pad is a breeze and functionally perfect while driving. I have two vehicles, one is a touchscreen and the other is the MDX and I find it easier keeping visual contact with the road when using the touchpad. You don't realize it, but when using the touchscreen, your eyes lock in more narrowly, trying to see where your finger is touching and you end up losing eye contact with a significant portion of your visual field. The only reason why Acura SHOULD HAVE made it also a touchscreen is merely for business purposes. They are losing clients because people have been brainwashed to equate superior performance with anything touchscreen. If it had dual function, I would still be using the touchpad 80% of the time. I wouldn't want them to delete the trackpad. The only thing they need to do is make it also a touchscreen. It is a great vehicle. I just finished a 300-mile road trip, and it shocked me with a 28.3 mpg. I had to take a picture to make sure I wasn't daydreaming. I bought it knowing the reputation for crappy gas mileage, but I liked the overall look with its clean lines, so this was a shocker. Like Motormouth said, this SUV drives like a sedan. Don't let the touchpad be a negative. It is cool to be leaning back and working that touchpad like James T. Kirk on the bridge of the USS Enterprise 😊

@@s.patterson5698 well said!! We love the touchpad as well. I read somewhere that Acura does not want the touchscreen due to safety and exactly what you’re referring to while touching the screen and focusing in where you need to touch. Plus the fingerprints. No thanks.

Currently buying one same color, love the looks, the exquisite mix of drive quality and comfort. Don’t mind the pad, at least no greasy fingerprints on screen. Also chose this over German rival because of reliability and maintenance costs. I seriously considered the Pilot, too boring inside, and Mazda CX90, too harsh on rough roads. I realize the model has been out for a couple of years but that’s a potential plus for reliability and the is no guaranty the next one will be more appeal.

As an Acura owner, I can agree with the thoughts of the look of the dashboard and the shifter and mode control knob. It’s a little tacky. Also, the touch pad is annoying compared to a touch screen. However….. when it came time to get a new car for my wife, we got a Lexus NX350, and it looks amazing. The downfall of Lexus is a few things. 1), The touch screen is disabled to type a search while driving. The touch pad allows you to search while driving. Lexus has NO walk away auto lock. Lexus remotes aren’t programmed to driver 1,2,3. Acura remotes are tagged to the memory. Lexus has this attitude that their cars are better than the competition. They’re good, but not worth the money after owning one. Great marketing though. On second thought, maybe we should have gone with the RDX. No joke. If you had the Acura layout for 2 weeks, you’d grow to love its design inside as you’d spare dynamic mode placement. You can’t appreciate it after a short period of time.

I owned a Acura TL then needed a new car but wanted to buy my first SUV so immediately went to Acura as I loved the TL, drove real nice HATED the interior layout (dash) and compared to the others I was looking at I just felt it too much money for its small size but I couldn’t get past the interior layout since I’d be looking at most. I will say though this one is an improvement but still not the best looking IMO.

Interesting with Honda they have simplified there interiors where Acura has this arrangement going on. I have a feeling it will be changed next year or with the full model replacement in 2 years. I would guess the RDX will be the first to get the update. If max space is not a issue and you can deal with the infotainment I would pick this over the pilot

The MDX is a near perfect vehicle, Im just disappointed there is no hybrid or more fuel efficient option. Honda really has really great hybrid technology and I just think its a glaring omission among the Acura lineup. Instead fully electric niche vehicles are being shoved down our throats even though the majority of people would prefer hybrids. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Great review guys. That is a big "no" to the fakakta shifter (and touch pad). The old saw "You can get used to anything" a sorry excuse for poor ergonomics and functionality. Acura's had a few new model and refresh opportunities to address this abomination. Disappointing miss on an otherwise near-perfect vehicle.

I know you don't want to hear this, but the touchpad is actually functionally perfect to use while driving. I have two vehicles, one is a touchscreen and the other is the 2023 MDX and frankly, i find the touchpad much safer to use while driving. The ONLY reason why Acura should have made it also with a touchscreen feature is so as not to alienate customers who equate touchscreen with superiority. That was a foolhardy decision on their part.

Yes, you get used to the touchpad very quickly if you take the time customize the touchpad, learn you steering wheel shortcuts and use CarPlay voice commands. As far as the shifter, super easy to use...you can do it without looking! Most trips you get in, push a button and then arrive at your destination and push a button and done. Even if you have to *look* at what you are pushing (god forbid) it is still really easy 😅

The drive mode selector is a styling cue to the Acura NSX. As for the push button transmission it is so easy to use. I wished more cars had it. The MDX has been a hit for Acura a long time. Look at all the old MDX’s tooling around in your city. Best bang for the buck!

I have a 22 MDX Advance since 8/2021. The Type S was not out yet. If there was one on the lot at the time , and I was able to drive it, I "think" I would have shelled out the extra $10K for it. I am retired, don't really need a 3 Row SUV for everyday, but love the comfort , room and overall handling & ride of my MDX. I'm "living" with the TTIP (still not fond of it even after 2 years. It is very frustrating to other drivers of the car [like my 37 YO son at times- he hates it]), IMHO, Acura really missed The Boat here. In 2018-2020 they offered the MDX in a Sport Hybrid : more HP, More Torque, at least 20% better MPGs for $1500 price difference. That would be a NO BRAINER. Slam Dunk ! But they have not gone that route. The new ones will be EVs (Oh No) Plug in Hybrids but not Gas/Electric Hybrids [like the newer Honda CRVs).

I TOTALLY agree with Zack about the front dash board and the placement and style of the shifter and the outdated center display screen. I prefer a traditional gear shifter and touch pad. Honda need to copy the display screen like in the Subaru Outback. The removable second row seat should be optional and replaced with a full size spare tire. It needs a storage space like in the Honda Passport which was in the last generation Pilot where the majority women place there pocketbook / purse.

3 years ago when I wanted to buy the 2022 Acura MDX I was gonna trade in my 2018 Infiniti qx80 but when I test drove it I realized that the seats were very firm, the ride was quite bumpy, and there was a lot of road noise. I ended up trading in my Infiniti for a lexus gx. I know that the Infiniti and the Acura are like two different vehicles but to be honest I expected more from Acura. Like the interior and exterior was very nice and the power feels good and the way it handles but the seat comfort and road noise was a big negative for me. Did anyone’s else feel this way too?

There are things to like about Acuras. I found when testing the RDX AWD that it handed well but had a heavy front wheel drive steering/ride. The four was LOUD (like - every? - car maker they pump fake noise into the cabin and you cannot shut it the hell off). I buy a “luxury” car for quiet. The GV70 gives one the option of shutting off the noise and I was disappointed with the NX350 F as it was cramped (smaller than compact competitors), really noisy and slow as heck off the line. Not fun the drive at all. I had convinced myself “reliability” was most important. Reading CR, Motor Trend and Car & Driver and all say BMW for some reason is right there with reliability. However, I have convinced myself that I am not a big enough jerk to drive a Beemer. Maybe I will change my mind.

@s.patterson5698
@s.patterson5698 10 месяцев назад
You may already know this, but I didn't realize it at the start. To see exactly how your vehicle is doing on gas mileage for a particular trip, you should reset the trip gage. It automatically resets the mpg scaling. I knew going in that the MDX had crappy mpg but I thought mine was really underperforming when I was only averaging 20 to 22 mpg when I was on the highway. My other vehicle always starts a new calculation with every trip and so I didn't realize the MDX didn't. So in my city driving I was averaging around 17 to 18 mpg, so when I got on the highway, I would be 50 miles into my drive only seeing 20 to 21 mpg. It takes a lonnnng time on the highway to seriously move the needle if you have been doing a lot of city driving prior. That is when I started to fooling around with the settings and discovered the aberration. So last week I went on a 300-mile road trip, with about 10 miles of city driving mixed in...I reset the trip setting and my average was 28.3 mpg. I thought I was daydreaming so I took a picture to convince myself I had not a hallucinated.😊

I wish Honda would remove the manual door lock switches above the door handles. I think VW did away with those in 2005 onwards largely. Strange Honda still uses them as they just cheapen an otherwise nice product with an addictive engine. But that part is cost cutting and frankly I’d never get over it lol

When you do the prices for other vehicles to consider at the end of each video, can you specify if the numbers are American or Canadian? Thanks! I test drove a 2024 MDX Tech package AWD today but the lower ride height, not really usuable third row, numb steering, decreased visibility side and rear, lack of a touchscreen as well as the VERY mushy brakes didn't make me like it more than my 2021 Dodge "Badongo" GT Plus AWD Blacktop Pacage with the performance hood....LOL! (I watch a lot of your reiews and test drive other vehicles as a hobby). My gf has the new QX60 and I'm not impressed with it... it's not much more than a rebadged Pathfinder which is my least favorite new three row SUV for several reasons. Also, I didn't like the new Pilot. It felt like driving a car, the stereo was meh and the exterior styling already feels dated.
